If Germans hate Americans, why doesn't Germany sever ties with America?

Now, Germany is a rich country right? Its got lots of friends in Europe and the world right? So if it does this, it'll be alright, right?

Now, I understand that you can't defeat it but surely you can run away from it right?

You know how if a couple are just not getting along anymore, they don't agree with anything, they constantly fight and things are just not working out for them, they get a divorce? Why doesn't Germany and the USA do that and go their own separate ways?

Okay, so I've come across a lot of Germans on Quora, YouTube (actual videos), probably this site and a lot more others out there who just have a negative view about the USA and probably of Americans.

Now, I don't really care if it was because Germany lost both WWs and were not able to implement their 1000 years of peace and prosperity Reich or whether or not it's true amongst majority of Germans, what I do want to know though is why hasn't Germany severed ties with the US yet?

And why doesn't every country who hates America do this? You can't defeat it but I'm sure you can run away from it....

Generally, everyone in the world has a negative view about The USA. doesn't mean everyone hates USA.

Germany has been an occupied country since the end of WW2.

They aren't quite as independent as you may think.

It's not true that Germans or Europeans in general have a negative view of America. Of course there are aspects of the USA that we don't fancy, but overall we draw a lot of Americanism into our daily life, such as diluting our own language with all sorts of anglicisms which are "useless" but somehow using them makes people feel "cool".

@Damedius: Then why don't they fight their occupiers so that they can think for themselves?

Life in the American Empire has been generally good for Germany and Europe as whole. No internal wars in Europe, plus they have good standard of living. They don't have to spend nearly as much to defend themselves since the Americans help in that capacity.

@Damedius: NO. They hate them remember? How can they let the nation that they hate defend them?

Hey, do you think Germans hate them because Germans either have a stick up their anus or they are upset because they weren't able to achieve their Reich of 1000 years of peace and prosperity?

The situation in Germany is far more complex than you seem to understand. For starters, I would suggest understanding the term "The wall in the head".

Generalizations with no substance. Topic should be locked. Anyway one will find that when you have your own needs being met then you allow for alliance. But this thread............smh.

I don't think that is entirely unreasonable, seeing as how modern Germany is less than 40 years old, and was partially Soviet before...and Nazi before that. Germany had a pretty bad run for quite a few decades and has only "just" now (big-picture wise) gotten their shit in order.

What is unreasonable is saying they are "occupied". Yeah the US has some bases there, but it's not legit occupied; I think people that say this are being dramatic.

With that said, I feel they are fairly self-determining and for a while there when Trump lost his shit, Merkel seemed like the real leader of the free world. Their constitution isn't German-made but, none the less, it is still a constitution of a free people.

Not optional. If the US pulled out of Germany tomorrow, it would be Russia in about three months. Europe might like to posture, but it lacks the military to defend it's self. That is why they are so willing to appease Russian aggression. Until Russia implodes you will never really see anti-Americanism bloom in Europe.

Hopefully when Putin dies, it is a peaceful implosion. Until then however, the survival of the EU depends on the American Military.

@kittennose: I would say that unlike Russia and the USA, Europe for the most part has moved on from the Cold War mindset. The idea that Russia would conquer Europe if the USA withdrew its European bases is far fetched to say the least.

The EU (not even Europe as a whole) dwarfs Russia both economically and population wise. Putin pours money into the military for global prestige reasons to the detriment of more important areas of the nation state, USA as well to a certain extent.

The only thing that would happen if the American military pulled out of Europe is that the USA would be better off economically than it is now.

@mandzilla: unless the USA just re deploys those forces elsewhere, which is possible.

Agree completely that its unlikely Russia will take over Europe of the USA pull out all their miltary presence.

To the OP, I'm from UK and have travleled around Europe including Germany.

The Germans do not hate the USA, neither do any European countries ive been to.

Oddly enough I have always been a fan of both Germany and Japan but I honestly feel the Fatherland should "know its role" a bit more thanks to "recent" history.

Because ending beneficial alliances solely because a current government, that will last eight years at most, is seen as dumber then a bag of hammers is a rather dumb thing to do.

@rolaldrigan123: Wouldn´t a better question be since everyone hates germans why doesn´t the world cut ties with the Germans?

Since the answer to why the Germans don´t cut ties with "anyone they hate" is because then they would be all alone.

Economic strength and population mean very little in modern warfare unless it is backed up by already existing forces. Even with the US forces in Europe, Russia is projected to do very well in the opening weeks of a conventional war with NATO. The projected tide would only turn in favor of NATO after almost two months of mobilization, with the US expected to do most of the heavy lifting.

Remove the US from the equation and Eastern Europe crumples like paper. If European buildups only happen afterwards, it is unlikely that Eastern Europe will be retaken militarily. Particularly since the backbone of Europe's economy, Germany, will be Russian Territory.

That also assumes Europe stays united absent US support. With the fall of Germany, that is unlikely.

And more generalizations. I really haven't found anywhere where Germans are hated by everyone. Trolling?

The EU members combined already have more existing forces than Russia. Also, on what are you basing this idea that Russia could take over europe in a few weeks? Any source at all?

If the EU were taken by surprise and did not have a chance to store supplies they would run out of oil quickly. Without outside help they would be unable to fuel their war machine.

Can you point out where I said Russia could take over Europe at all, much less in weeks?

I think Germans were big fans of Obama. They just hate Trump. That could easily change in the next election.
