@appariti0n: Yes. Its an attempt to gain power via the backdoor. They cant win in a 2 person race, so you create a BS recall so you can have an off cycle election where you dont need the majority to win. They can then use their illgotten undemocratic power to mess with the voting process to make it easier to win again. Look at all the attacks on our voting rights in red states.

Not everything fascists use to gain power is illegal. Learn history, even the nazis used legal means to get into power.

Kinda hoping Elder doesn't win for the simple fact that I don't agree with a lot of his ideas. Some are alright, but his whole thing against the minimum wage, against employment pregnancy protections, his stance on public schools, and health care scare me a bit. I understand his view on smaller government, but that doesn't mean I agree with it.

I'm sorry but I don't think there's nothing wrong with having school choice. As a minority myself, I've went to public schools where they had very small resources to learn better, which I never graduated from High School. This puts a negative effect on minorities and it's borderline racist that some people rather put them in public schools than private ones just to keep them down. I'm speaking in general, not to you personally btw.

@thenation: Oh yes, I actually got my voting package today for the Canadian Federal election.

Did you know they require ID? So racist.

Back to the first point, have the Democrats ever recalled a Republican official? Was it fascist when they did it? Why or why not?

@appariti0n: Who said anything about racism? Stop moving the goal posts and putting words in my mouth.

So you just listed recalls and saw an R next to their name and assumed it was democrats that did it?

Lets unpackage your post

1. Brought up something nobody mentioned

2. Accused somebody of saying something not actually said

3. Attempted to move the goalposts

4. Listed recalls with zero context

5. Assumed the people behind it with zero evidence

6. Dodged the original comment

7. Whataboutism to deflect callout

There it is. Bye.

@sargentd: Do you have anything valid to add? The fact you made that comparison is hilarious. I didnt compare Elder to the nazis. They were seperate statements, the nazi comment and elder one were not related.

Telling you didnt argue those independent comments. Because they are factual.

@thenation: how are your voting rights being restricted?

You have referred to this recall race as fascist several times and then talked about voting rights being restricted by republicans and then bring up the Nazis as a reference for comparison.

What am I missing?

@thenation: Oh yes, let's "unpackage this".

1. Brought up something nobody mentioned

You mean the voting bills that nobody was talking about until you brought it up?

thenation: They can then use their illgotten undemocratic power to mess with the voting process to make it easier to win again. Look at all the attacks on our voting rights in red states.

.

2. Accused somebody of saying something not actually said

Who accused who of saying what? Quote me accusing this "somebody".

3. Attempted to move the goalposts

What goalposts? I commented to point out how ridiculous it is for you to call the 100% legal recall function "Fascist".

4. Listed recalls with zero context

What context do you need? There's a direct question right here:

appariti0n: have the Democrats ever recalled a Republican official? Was it fascist when they did it? Why or why not?

.

thenation: 5. Assumed the people behind it with zero evidence

Sorry, can you please rephrase the above so it is understandable?

6. Dodged the original comment

What, this?

They cant win in a 2 person race, so you create a BS recall so you can have an off cycle election where you dont need the majority to win.

So is it fascism every time the Democrats used the exact same process to recall a Republican official?

The current recall system seems like BS, I agree, but it's a system either party can exploit nonetheless. And I've seen nothing to suggest the Democrats are so altruistic as to not do the same to their opponents if they thought they could get away with it. So I'm wondering if you find the entire recall system fascist, or only when the Republicans do it.

7. Whataboutism to deflect callout

Vagueness to deflect speciousness of argument.

@sargentd: 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

1. That has been explained a billion times from redistricting to limiting mail voting and voting times and locations.

2. A fascist power grab

3. Voting rights are being resticted

4. No i didnt, you did and claimed i did. The nazi comment was that legal means can be used to gain power, but that doesnt dismiss the intent. You are now taking that out of context to distract from the main point and whats going on.

5. You are missing everything.

@appariti0n:

Oh yes, let's "unpackage this".

You thought you did something huh?

You mean the voting bills that nobody was talking about until you brought it up?

Those were valid to bring up. You were the one that brought up Canada and racism. Not me. I said that as a valid concern over what they might do.

Who accused who of saying what? Quote me accusing this "somebody".

Seriously? Denial now?

Did you know they require ID? So racist.

What goalposts? I commented to point out how ridiculous it is for you to call the 100% legal recall function "Fascist".

You attempted to move the debate from what the Republicans are doing to Democrats and voting laws.

What context do you need? There's a direct question right here:

Nice try. You listed recalls with zero context and are now attempting to switch the burden of proof on me. You have yet to provide any details on those recalls.

Sorry, can you please rephrase the above so it is understandable?

Its perfectly understandable. You are using a personal incredulity fallacy here with a few others. You googled California recalls, saw some were Republicans and assumed Democrats did it. You are now trying to get me to debate a point you haven't made. Do better. Start by researching those recalls first.

So is it fascism every time the Democrats used the exact same process to recall a Republican official?

You haven't made that point yet. You can't list recalled Republicans and leave it at that. I won't make your argument for you.

There you go putting words in my mouth, trying to deflect this back on Democrats and trying to make me prove your point for you. And what makes something fascist is intent behind it. You seem to be ok with recalls, I hate them. Which is clear in here.

Vagueness to deflect speciousness of argument.

That doesn't mean what you think it means. Even though you are doing it.

@thenation: Ok, how about this then.

I assumed, at least some of the previous recalls would have been initiated by a democratic base, given that the one being recalled was Republican. Is this not a reasonable assumption to make?

But for the sake of argument, let's just go with the following question, which I've tried asking you several times now.

Do you consider the recall process fascist in nature by default? Or only in this instance where the Republicans are trying to get rid of Newsom?

IE: Let's say the Democrats were to use the exact same mechanism to recall a Republican Governor. Would that be a fascist move as well?

I literally just admitted I had made assumptions about the previous recalls. What more do you want?

It's irrelevant to the following question anyhow:

Is it fascist when either party uses the recall system to recall a governor? Or only when Republicans do it?

@thenation: Or.... you could just answer the question.

It's really not that difficult. Either the recall process is inherently fascist regardless of who is using it, or it's not.

You're the one who brought up fascism here. So don't be surprised when people call you on it.

The fact you won't answer such a simple question says you're more concerned with "winning" some imaginary game of forum jousting based on arbitrary rules you've made up in your head, than actually having any sort of honest discussion.

Is this where you think you answered it?

I said the recall is a fascist power play.

Because no, you didn't.

This only specifies that you think "the recall" is a fascist power play.

It makes no distinction between this particular recall being done to Newsom, or the recall process in general, and can easily be interpreted either way. My question is an attempt to clarify which of the two above positions belongs to you.

Imagine if a black man fixed all of California's problems... from the Republican ticket? That alone would unravel the entire fabric of most the DNCs empty promises every election. Hence the conspiracy theories that the recall is some kind of a "fascist power play" when the opposite is closer to being true. California attempted to keep him off the ballot, picking and choosing who Californians are allowed to pick from, but nah, it's the other guy engaging in the fascist power play.

Don't believe what? That election officials such as the secretary of state refused to list him on the ballot? And it took a judge to rule to have him listed on the ballot? That really did happen and it's pathetic.

Yeah it was never answered and never will be, because we all know the recall was supported by bipartisan effort, which doesn't fit the poster's narrative.

@shurns: no it wasnt, it was largely down party lines. This is republican attempt #6.

And it was answered, but that answer will never be acknowledged because it hurts his narrative. Still waiting on his proof of all those times democrats did it. Telling he wont defend that statement.

@Stevo_the_gamer: Yeah, guaranteed MSM would be running that for weeks.

Hell, we just had some doofus throw gravel at our PM, and it's on repeat now pretty much.

Cue all the chicken littles who love big government, come in crying for stronger laws to protect our politicians, when we already have the laws we need. Just need the RCMP to do a better job on security.

Already hearing the cries of "someone will be killed next time if we don't do something!"

Actually, the last time there was a serious breach of security, the PM at the time, Jean Christian got a pie in the face. Lol.

Elder is a king, Newsom is a coward.

Elder's campaign site is talking about actual issues

Newsom is "muh anti-vaxx, Q-anon, racist Trump supporters" fearmongering. He's not talking about issues at all. He's got nothing. Why should anyone who isn't a paranoid nutcase vote for you, Newsom?

Ah yes, vaccinating our population against something that has almost killed 700k nationwide isn't 'an actual issue'. Elder is the perfect candidate for these conspiracy low IQ goons.

We now have access to multiple vaccines. Encouraging—not mandating—those who are unvaccinated to get the vaccine is a reasonable approach...After all, scientists have assured us repeatedly that the vaccines are effective. By now, everyone who wishes to be protected by a vaccine can get one.

You mean the same guy that said no young people need to get the vaccines or wear masks? We can drop the pretense of this 'freedom' and faux argument of encouragement, which is simply lip service to his Ivermectin chugging voter base.

It's a conveniently lazy stance to take while sidestepping any reasonable approach to helping contain a global pandemic, ignoring his contradictory statements on 'what the scientists are saying.'

He won't though, Larry has terrible ideas. Especially on Covid. He's a loon.

@eoten said:

Gas-lighting.

It's objectively a GOP power-grab,

Republican activists have been trying to recall Newsom since shortly after he was inaugurated in January 2019. Five attempts failed to get enough signatures. But a sixth try, led by a retired sheriff’s deputy named Orrin Heatlie, gained momentum after a judge granted supporters extra time to collect signatures due to the stay-at-home order at the start of the pandemic.

Now, in theory, the recall process is all about giving more power to the people so they can boot out politicians they think need to go. Who could be against that? But the devil’s in the details about just who “the people” happen to be, and how that choice is structured.

The handling of the replacement candidates is also unusual because, unlike in typical elections, there are no primaries beforehand in which the field is sorted. So this time around there are 24 Republican candidates, 9 Democrats, and 13 others from third parties or with no party preference. With only a plurality necessary to win if Newsom loses the recall question, and no runoff, this poses the possibility that someone with a small slice of the vote would end up governor.

This thrills conservatives, since a conservative candidate would have little chance of winning a typical two-candidate California election.

You can't refute anything from the above facts. Because you know what this is.

@vl4d_l3nin: Repealing prop 47 is more than enough of a reason to hate him. I have already backed recall efforts on him if he wins. He needs to be stopped.

If the GOP can use recalls on Democrats than the reverse is true. But all the efforts i support make future recalls illegal. No more recalls.

Isn't it past time California finally had a black governor? Look at the list of state governors, all white men. No diversity. When are Californians going to enter the 21st century and stop holding back people of color?

It's what you people do is it not? I mean, you just did. If saying people should vote for someone blindly based on something trivial like skin color or gender, perhaps the left should stop trying to use those same bullshit arguments.

With that, if you do not vote for him, it's proof you hate black people and it'll be considered white backlash.

You seem fairly invested in this. What's your prediction? You believe Elder will be governor shortly? Or will you continue to flamebait with sh*t like this.

Wasn't California run into the ground the last time they had a Republican governor?

Do you mean Schwarzenegger? And it's being ran into the ground now so I am not sure what point you are trying to make.

LA County Sheriff discussing the hate crime incident regarding Elder. Hopefully LAPD will use every tool at their disposal to identify her and throw the book at her.

@eoten: Who is this people you speak of? 🤔 The only time i hear it is when the right cries about it. You are the only one doing it now.

Its not being ran into the ground, arnie messed it up and we are still fixing that disaster.

@Stevo_the_gamer: Calling it now. That attack was staged by Elder to gain sympathy because poll numbers are dropping. Next.

Democrats aren't very motivated to vote off season so it is very possible.

Don't forget the other idiots that resorted to assault and including the one that fired a pellet gun at his group in Hollywood earlier in the day. Wtf is wrong with people, and such a double-standard crickets are chirping on the liberal side not brushing a care for this one.

Larry Elder Argued That Slave Owners Were Owed Reparations After the Civil War (businessinsider.com)

"When people talk about reparations, do they really want to have that conversation? Like it or not, slavery was legal," Elder said. "Their legal property was taken away from them after the Civil War, so you could make an argument that the people that are owed reparations are not only just Black people but also the people whose 'property' was taken away after the end of the Civil War."

No way is this real.
