Honestly if the native american's didn't get in the way of the construction, it would have been done sooner and probably would have been safer. Could have avoided this whole thing now we have a mess on our hands.
Sometimes I wish Native American's would just go back to their own country.

Subtlety is key to trolling.
Is this that pipeline that idiot republicans were screaming would be perfectly safe, would lower the cost of gas, and create thousands of high-paying jobs? lol
No, that is the Keystone XL and it would eventual connect to this pipeline.
Also it looks like it was human fault , so while it´s bad it's not that bad and it was in area with no major nature or human population.
The first Keystone pipeline, which runs 1,136 miles from Hardisty in Alberta, carries about 500,000 barrels a day of thick bitumen from the oil sands area to pipeline, refining and storage networks in Steele City, Neb., and Patoka, Ill.
The pipeline has had smaller spills — 400 barrels each — in the same region in 2011 and 2016.
TransCanada told the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration that the May 7, 2011, spill at the Ludden pump station was caused by a threaded connection on small diameter piece of pipe that had been installed improperly, causing stress fatigue. There were two other small leaks at pumping stations that month.
Well solar and wind energy is never going to power airplanes and semi's and just to build them, convert and store it's pathetic output has its own environmental hazards....just no one wants to talk about it or admit it. Then again no one is mentioning all the oil spilled into the ocean from transportation. ....it's like you guys want more than one thing.....
USA is ours. They can go back to their own country. The only reason they are here is because of Pangaea and them not being good at navigating.

I don't know where to begin with that post. Ignore it is the best option...

How could they not seen this happening and still had it approve? It was going to be a disaster from the beginning.

Alternative fuel sources which would increase jobs as well.

There was no America back then.
Honestly, I'm not THAT against pipelines in general. What I do think should happen is that companies should be 100% liable for all costs associated with spills. Every single dollar impacted should be their responsibility, not some pitiful fine for spills.

But that might impact their profits tremendously if something happens. Better let the tax payers pay for it.
How can we not design pipes properly?... C'mon
These engineers need to step up their game. Stop cutting corners. Might be cheaper in the short-term but certainly not in the long-term. This shouldn't be a thing... especially not over and over again.
If you read the actual story and not just the tweet, you would see that the problem is not the pipeline´s design but the human who installed a key component wrong.

Key component as in part of the pipeline............
Chlorine gas is a part of nature, too. I don't see you pumping it into your HVAC system.

sodium cholride is great stuff.

They already are 100% liable for cleanup costs and they get fined.
BP's costs for their epic gulf coast fiasco with DeepWater Horizon in 2010 was $62 Billion. Think about that. Enbridge's cost for their pipeline spill in Marshall, Michigan in 2010 is well over a billion and counting, as monitoring continues.
People including folks on this board have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to pipeline companies or oil production. The last thing any of these companies wants is a spill. It costs them far more than maintenance or repair work, so they sure as hell are not motivated to skimp on pennies and run the risk of massive clean up costs.
Moreover, they are in the business of building energy infrastructure. Every time there is a problem it hurts the company and the industry as a whole as it makes it harder and more costly to build new infrastructure. They aren't deliberately trying to destroy their own businesses, ffs.
As I posted above, what makes this one interesting for me to follow is that it is a relatively new pipeline and there doesn't appear to have been a precipitating accident.
@AlexKidd5000: Sadly, your video is completely misinformed on the jobs aspect of renewables. The US has no competitive advantage in building solar panels or wind turbines as both are dominated by other countries. Ask the Germans, whose entire solar industry collapsed the moment artificial subsidies from their gov't were reduced and the entire production moved to China. Similarly, Ontario's dream of creating green jobs also evaporated the moment their gov't realized it's 'Ontario First' content rules violated every trade agreement that Canada is a party too.
That's the bad news.,,there aren't a lot of sustainable jobs to be had in renewables. The good news is that the cost curve for solar has come down so fast that it doesn't need subsidies to compete any more and wind is not far behind. That is the reason for greater adoption than projected 10 yrs ago. That cost curve is the result of concentrated production, technology advancement, and low cost labour (though it is far more automated a well).
Anyway, I am fully behind renewables but also a realist about the jobs aspect.

Funny because that clearly biased moron is so far from the truth, he has his agenda. You must have no clue what the maintenance costs on wind power is nor how batteries for storage are made and the energy consumed and waste to environment to create solar panel networks.

Hmmm, that is interesting. I have heard that the cost for renewables has come down pretty dramatically fast recently, and heard that job creation in that field was increasing at nearly the same pace. Maybe not?

Um, then we better stop using our computers, and phones then. They DO recycle E-waste you know.
