Poll Poll #3: Who is going to win the 2020 Democratic primary? (36 votes)

Michael Bennet 0%
Joe Biden 31%
Michael Bloomberg 6%
Cory Booker 0%
Pete Buttigieg 6%
Julian Castro 0%
John Delaney 0%
Tulsi Gabbard 0%
Amy Klobuchar 0%
Deval Patrick 0%
Bernie Sanders 25%
Tom Steyer 0%
Elizabeth Warren 25%
Marianne Williamson 0%
Andrew Yang 8%

The question is simple: Who do you think will win the 2020 Democratic presidential primary?

Not who do you want to win it, but who will win. But of course, you are more than welcome to share your preferred candidate.

The poll will be ran from time to time to see how our predictions change. The poll will stay open for about 9 days or so.

The results from the 2nd poll were:

  • Elizabeth Warren: 35%
  • Kamala Harris: 25%
  • Joe Biden: 19%
  • Andrew Yang: 12%
  • Bernie Sanders: 8%
  • Tulsi Gabbard: 4%
  • Everyone else: 0%

Lots of stuff happening since the last poll. Beto and Kamala are out, Bloomberg and Patrick are in. According to Nate Silver of 538 the state of the polls is as follow:

Biden remains in the lead. Bernie, to my chagrin, has demonstrated a remarkable staying power after his health scare and seems to be in a strong position that could again enable him to take his campaign all the way to the convention. Warren went all in on with Medicare For All and then provided a highly suspect finance plan for it just to acknowledge that the plan has no chance of passing Congress during her 1st term, but don't worry she will first pass a public option and then M4A in her 2nd term? Come on, don't laugh.

Mayor Pete seems to be at the top in Iowa and near the top in New Hampshire but still needs to make inroads with African Americans/ Hispanics to sustain his campaign long term.

Who do I think will win the primary? Joe Biden. He has been on front since he entered and he remains in front. If he were to be the nominee then lets see how enthusiastic the left is to go out and vote for him (2016 redux?).

What say you guys & gals?

I believe that it will be Biden as disappointing as that notion is.

I haven't stated this before (mostly because it's happened in the last week), but my preferred candidate has actually shifted to Bernie of all people. I don't think that Warren actually wants to do Medicare for All like I use to believe, and Bernie's wealth tax is more progressive than Warren's. I still don't love Bernie's plans as they haven't historically added up according to the CBO (back in 2016), but neither did Trump's plans. Also, Bernie has said he would continue to organize politically after winning the presidency which I believe is a smart thing to do.

Biden on the other hand wants to "sure up Obamacare" whatever that really means, wants to allocate $750 billion dollars to student loan debt (something that collectively is over a trillion dollars) so I see it as something that doesn't really take care of it and potentially leaves millions behind, and generally doesn't seem to want to do a whole lot that actually fixes issues, but instead opts for measures that fix things partway. Now that's way better than Trump who has actively worked to hurt the poor and middle class rather than helping them even a little bit, but I think we need to fight for the things we actually want, not just small portions of them.

@Serraph105: Yeah, Bernie is the only candidate that doesn't preemptively compromise on his policy. Realisticly, he would probably have to go about MC4A much like Warren's plan, but you have to aim for the stars to land on the moon.

If you ask me, Bernie is the only one who really has a chance against Trump. The economy is doing well, and Trump is popular with his party base. You only win against that if you stand for something.

Oh, and I think the nominee will be Biden or Warren.

It would probably end up looking like Warren's plan, but you can't go about doing it in year 3. Politics would mean that it wouldn't happen at all in that case.

@Serraph105: Oh, I agree. If they start pushing day one, something may happen in year 3. But if they start pushing in year 3, nothing will happen at all. That's what I meant by aim for the stars to land on the moon. Bernie's method might get us Warren's plan. Warren's method might get us some small reforms to Obamacare, but not much more.

For the record, I think Warren's plan is sensible, but in politics sensible doesn't go very far.

It's amazing that the top 3 choices are by the far the oldest and likely most out of touch with the remaining generations.

If you want to know who will win the nomination, just look at who the DNC insiders support because ultimately, they, not the voters, get the final say. And by the way the media is propping up Warren on a pedestal while marginalizing her opponents, it's clear who is favored by the insiders, and who ultimately will win.

The last election should have been a clear indication that the DNC doesn't give a shit about the will of the people, they'll pick your candidate for you and the people on the left will blindly vote for that selection because they're still convinced they're the party of some kind of democracy.

Y'all should make a second poll, who did you people on the left WANT to win, as opposed to this one of who will most likely win. I bet the results would be very different.

@SOedipus: I like yang, but the DNC is never going to give an outsider like him a fair shot

Compare his speaking time in the debates to warren, Biden, Booker, they actively ignore him

@sonicare: It is funny that the top 3 are old and white, I'll give you that, but the reasons are pretty straightforward:

Joe Biden is most well known, so him being at the top makes sense.

Bernie is the most liberal, so he has the base and the kids excited.

Warren has the most detailed policy proposals, and has done very well in the debates. (I know you want to bring up her Native heritage, but she's white, it's fine, no one actually cares)

I'd love to vote for someone like Harris or Booker, but it comes down to policy for me. These two have not put forward a clear vision for their presidency.

Yang is off to a good start, but he is going to need a more complete set of ideas before I would pick him. He could go far in a few election cycles if he keeps building up his platform.

People need to remember, Obama is an anomaly. It is incredibly rare for someone to become president on their first try.

Then why do you think they're still the party of the people, or care what the people want? They're clearly more concerned with their own self interests since they won't even let you pick the candidate you want.

The only reason Biden is leading in the polls is because they are only really done by landline telephone, and only people from his generation actively have a landline, let alone answer it not knowing who's on the other end.

I'm sure if they conducted polls in various manners (especially including social media), they would be a whole lot closer, and Bernie would likely either be right behind Biden or slightly ahead.

People aren't going out in groups of thousands in the cold to a Biden rally.

Really? Last election it would seem more people wanted Bernie, until the super delegates made it clear that wasn't going to be allowed. And if the people actually have a choice, why is the media marginalizing candidates like Andrew Lang, ensuring he doesn't get any kind of exposure at all? Is he even still in the race? Who knows, the media makes sure you never hear about him.

Lmao, at you having a choice.

@burntbyhellfire: lol. You blame everything in "the media".

Everyone has a choice. The problem with everyone but Biden is that neither of them is nearly as popular as he.

And who do you think has the most influence over the popularity of a candidate? If the media wasn't picking favorites, why did they refuse to give certain candidates any time at any of the debates? If they are so fair, so honest, and truly want the people to decide, where is Andrew Lang? And after what happened to Bernie in 2016, why is there still even a super delegate? And do you even understand how the super delegates work?

Joe Biden is old, senile, rambles on about his blonde hair legs, kids jumping on his lap, and how much he likes that and roaches. He's been caught sexually harassing women, fat shaming, a clear racist/bigot, and taking money from foreign countries. He is the epitome of white privilege, and as out of touch as you can possibly get with his "no malarkey" slogan. You think Joe Biden is front runner because he's representative of your party? Because I'm pretty damn sure I've seen you whine about people like him many times on here.

@LJS9502_basic: I believe Hillary topped Bernie by about 3 million votes. I voted Bernie but he realistically was eliminated pretty early. By the time I voted in MA he was cooked. And that was early.

I don't think Biden has the stamina to run for two terms. I feel like his popularity will fade out if he does win for the presidency, which will free up the 2024 run.

Biden announced he is planning on being a one term president if he wins. So why is he running again? And also said he hopes the republicans don't lose too badly, as he wants there to still be an opposing party that will obstruct him at every turn like they did with obama. And we are supposed to take this guy seriously?

Bernie has a really good chance of winning, and has gained a lot of support recently in key states.

Yang is still my choice. I think he offers modern, realistic solutions. He's relatable, he also appeals to independents and republicans. Aside from pretty much no media love (looking at you MSNBC), Can we not at least consider him a top contender since he's made every debate so far and he hasn't had to buy his way onto the debate stage.

Do you really think the super delegates would allow him to be the nominee?

I want Warren to win.

I don't want any more centre-right Democrats. It's just a continuation of the problem in this country and it's frustrating to see him in the lead in polling (not this thread's poll). I don't understand why there's a need to elect an "electable" candidate. I want someone genuine who gives a damn and has the right head on his/her shoulder.
