So apparently Jeff Sessions doesn't want the Justice Department to have anything to do with independent scientists whose goal is to study and evaluate forensic science techniques.

Full Story Here.

I don't really see how cutting back on a field of science that's imperative to help solve crimes to be a good thing, but hey, that's just me.

Well he doesn't want to be prepared for the future.

I haven't read through all of it, but he thinks the group that Obama's administration created to help improve forensic science isn't doing their job good enough? He wants an internal group instead of external. I am guessing he wants more control over the results that are published?

Anything with "Science" in the title makes Republicans nervous.

Jeff Sessions is a man of the past. That's what this cabinet is. Our national motto should be changed to "Remember the 80's? Remember the 50s?!"

It's a 30 member council they probably get paid the big bucks to meet a few times a year. Whatever the Obama council found isn't getting ereased. More forensic science research I doubt will happen with the burden being placed on internal government agencies.

In the good old days you would just take the suspect to the victims corpse and if it's wounds start to bleed then it means the man was guilty. If it was good enough for them then it should be good enough for us!

Well, unfortunately the US is around 20 trillion dollars in debt and growing. You simply cant fund every noble program and give everyone, everything. You have to make cuts. Now, you and me, may have opinions about what they should cut first or what programs should be spared, but that's the nature of budgets. Would you rather they spare this program but cut more from medicaid, education, law enforcement, etc?

Please excuse me while I ponder how the proposed spending increases and tax cuts of this administration fit into this "we're doing it for fiscal responsibility" narrative.

Because we all know the choices being proposed are not cutting this or cutting medicaid. It's cutting this and medicaid in order to build a wall and fund tax cuts.

true...they need to get "smarter" and rename it the "church of forensics" or the "climate church". That is what the native indians did to keep on smoking their magic mushrooms--incorporated as the Native American Church.

cut the defense budget in half, raise taxes on the rich. The budget will balance itself.

Trust me. I think the republicans are the absolute worst when it comes to fiscal responsibility. They bemoan entitlement programs but then propose huge tax cuts and increased defense spending. That will never balance a budget. But I also criticize the democrats who like to irresponsibly promise every possible entitlement and benefit to people.

I have no problem with cutting the defense budget as we spend more than most other nations combined. However, i dont think you need to raise taxes on the rich. I think you just need to make sure that the rich pay the proper effective tax rate. Many of the top income earners are paying tax rates around 15-20% because of capital gains taxes. Rich people that make their money through wages - like athletes, etc. - pay close to 40% federal and over 50% when all taxes are added up. They certainly are paying their fair share.

But honestly, if you look at countries that have robust social systems like health care, education, etc., their tax rate is around 40% for even low income earners. I dont think that will fly in this country. People dont want to pay more in taxes. They want someone else to pay more in taxes.

My statements are above reproach. Why my statements are probably the best statements ever made and have helped to make gamespot great again. Often times, people walking down the street tell me how great my statements are. These statements are stuff that people have never seen before and are again likely some of the best, brightest, and most profound ever made. I also have orange skin.

cutting defense budget will signal to the world that US isn't a bunch of warmongerers and create good will. Other countries should step up and contribute more to the UN--trump was right about this. The UN should resolve international incidents, it needs its own army and defense budget.

The poor and middle class are completely retarded. They don't know what better social services means to them. It means free education, transportation, daycare, maternity leave, healthcare, etc etc. Things that they pay for, come out of their pocket regardless. Its why I have no problem with higher progressive taxes. Sales tax for example is a good thing--the rich buy the expensive stuff and they will therefore pay more in taxes. Gasoline tax as well is a great thing--the rich are the ones driving gas guzzlers and flying private jets. Property taxes is great but should be adjusted for neighborhood. So on and on. These are the things that will MAGA. A lot of dumasses out there love "working hard", while their boss is living it up on that labour and toil. How hard will these dumasses have to work to compete with autonomous AI robots?? They will have to give up sleep and food. When progressives call these retards out, they get called "socialists" and commies....the brainwashing has succeeded in turning them into indentured slaves. Unfortunately, these retards also get a vote and are keeping America back.

@blaznwiipspman1: Consumption taxes like sales taxes and gas taxes are regressive, not progressive. This is due to the marginal propensity to consume/save.

It´s a commission not a stop to research into forensic science.

And to be fair , i'm sure the justice dep. can figure out how to evaluate new science methods without some overpaid commission.

But typical democrats way of thinking , that more bureaucracy is the way forward and not less.

On your first point. The UN is a confederacy of countries (you know, like the U.S. during the Articles of Confederation and The CSA) , who have their own interests in mind, who attempt to resolve international issues. They are all on the same footing (which is why Saudi Arabia was on the human rights committee) and have their own say. Some more than others, especially the P5 (US, China, Russia, UK, and France). The UN already have a peacekeeping force which numerous countries contribute their own armed forces to. But even that's problematic since not many countries want to contribute and the peacekeeping force is limited in their role.

But that's the thing. It's a confederacy which isn't very effective, even if the UN somehow had more funding from other countries, each country has their own say which will curtail any chance of solving international issues. It's not impossible but it's not always successful.

----

As for your second point, calling the poor and middle class "retarded" doesn't improve your argument or make it appealing. I agree, however, that taxes should be raised and that social programs should be improved and receive more funding to benefit ALL Americans. Problem is that saying we should raise taxes aren't appealing, especially if government programs aren't effective in helping Americans throughout the nation, especially when dealing with urban and rural areas and especially dealing with states who may have a difference of opinion. If an citizen of Virginia is not seeing the benefits of Obamacare because the state refuses to accept medicaid subsidies, then unfortunately many Virginians are going to say that Obamacare sucks even though the Republican leadership is screwing them over. It's a problem but that's just how it is.

Fact is, legit liberals and progressives need to take the fight to state and local elections. We also need to realize that sometimes winning is more important than being right.

Understatement of the century here

Even before the announcement not to renew the national commission, several commission members from outside the Justice Department warned against ending its work, saying the Trump administration has made several moves to reduce the role of science and independent scientists in policymaking.
