Ann Coulter is part of the crowd that pushed hardcore and idiotic beliefs in the republican party for years until they got into the mode of immediately doing mental gymnastics to justify those beliefs. It's exactly the kind of mindset that allowed a lying piece of shit conman like Trump to become president in the first place. Republicans owe Ann a debt gratitude in my opinion.

So what’s the theory that justifies people who were totally fine with Obama’s unilateral imposition of DAPA and DACA with no statutory authority whatsoever turning around and being outraged by Trump using a congressional statue to declare an emergency?

If she wants a wall so bad then she sure as hell isn't going to get one if a Democrat takes the presidency in 2021. Especially when you have potential candidate Beto O'Rourke saying that he would actually tear down what is already up if he had the power to do so, and other potential candidates not denying that they would consider doing the same.

Better yet, maybe she should run in the upcoming primaries if she thinks she could get the wall built faster.

Even if it's a political move, declaring a state of National Emergency seems a little over the top. >_> Immigration is a tough puzzle for most if not all wealthy places. I don't know that it goes very smoothly anywhere. But for me this is like declaring a National Emergency over traffic accidents.

There are specific rules by which executive actions can be defined and applied because they dictate how allocated funds are to be most efficiently used - they must operate within the legislative statutes and budgets. The national emergency declaration is being used to take money allocated for one fund and using it for another which is supposed to be firmly in Congress's domain. That is, of course, except for national emergencies described in this law. The big caveat is that the law doesn't define what qualifies as a national emergency. Now we are faced with a tough legal question: can the president unilaterally declare such emergencies according to his own definition in the absence of a legislative definition? If not, then the bounds have very likely been overstepped here. If so, the law has obliterated one of the core constitutional separation of powers.

I honestly feel like I keep getting pushed into the "**** it" territory with Republicans because if they are going to support increasingly extreme measures and getting what they want why shouldn't democrats do the same thing. I don't know if there's a a way back from that mindset.

But **** it, why shouldn't a Democrat president declare a national emergency due to climate change and re-allocate funds for all things that reduce carbon emissions? If Republicans can do it for something dumb like a wall why not do it for something important like climate change?
