Impeachment articles will reportedly be brought forth tomorrow:

Apparently they've been trying to give enough time for the cabinet to invoke the 25th or for Trump to choose to resign:

It seems both of those options have been dismissed after a 48 hour period when one or the other seemed possible.

What are your thoughts? Good? Bad? Unnecessary?

Edit: He has now been officially impeached by a vote of 232-197. Note that this does not mean he's been removed, as that requires further action by the Senate.

He needs to be impeached and removed. It sends a clearly needed message that democracy is important. And they need to go after those in congress that allowed this.

lol, what a dumb move by pelosi, a waste of time. Trump will be leaving in a week, so where exactly will the impeachment go? Nowhere.

He can be barred from holding federal office.

Trump has certainly committed impeachable offenses. I believe he should be held accountable, even though I have no doubt it will fail. There simply needs to be accountability, which Trump has had barely none of the past four years. Doing nothing and staying silent would only encourage this behavior for any future executive. I hope they continue to hunt down everything he's done from here on out.

Instead of trying to unite the country the left just wants to keep us divided. Sad to see. Canceling Mr. Trump and rigging an election wasn't enough for them. No one in good conscious can continue to support the fascist left. All they care about is ruining the lives of everyone who doesn't bow down to them.

You cannot unite without accountability. No election was rigged but if you're going down that rabbit hole I don't think we can help you here. Your mind is made up. I will suggest you find some sites that aren't far right though and do some research yourself. It might help.

This is a joke, right? We just had an attempted violent insurrection, and your response is, "the left needs to learn to unite?"

I'm convinced this needs to happen for the precedent alone.

@LJS9502_basic: “He needs to be impeached and removed. It sends a clearly needed message that democracy is important. And they need to go after those in congress that allowed this“.

100%, amen. 👍🏼

While I don’t think this will really amount to much, symbolically it is of paramount importance in sending a damning message in defense of democracy. Ukraine I was somewhat on board with, but what Trump has done here is beyond the pale in terms of breaking his oath of office and being a direct enemy of what he swore to uphold and protect. Even though the Republi-cowards STILL won’t convict nor enact the 25th (even after all this), it’s the necessary step and one that I don’t view as partisan-driven but holds the full weight of Constitutional legitimacy and full warrant behind it. Impeachment at this juncture, despite the actual outcome, is a democratic imperative. Trump will go down in disgrace as the first twice impeached President.

And once he’s out, I want to see him gone after with a vengeance. How dare he. Toss the fucking book at him, full bore. His sycophantic delusional cult will whine and scream victimization in their perpetual persecution complex to the heavens, such the poor little victims they are, upset they can’t have their dear fascist leader inciting the mobs towards undemocratic, seditious ends by spewing falsehoods left and right (“wahhh....big tech censorship!!!“ 🙄), but that is another issue for another time.

There is such a thing as accountability, regardless of the time. If it doesn't go anywhere, it's because criminals, i.e. the GOP don't want to hold anyone accountable for treason.

Please don't put words in my mouth, I would never do the same to you. In all fairness, it's the left's fault. They're the ones who let china hack the voting machines and force trump to speak in metaphors so anifta could organize and commit seppuku in washington.

Would someone tell me what the point is of impeaching a president when he is literally days away from leaving office anyway.

Genuine question, not trying to be facetious.

Can he serve jail time? Or is this more to get him out of office ASAP before he screws anything else up or gets more people killed?

@LJS9502_basic said:

Can you impeach congressmen and senators?

@Solaryellow said:

I would say impeaching a president directly responsible for an attempted coup of our democracy is the action of a responsible, intelligent adult....not a whiny child.

With that said, we could definitely use some younger folks in political office, so if it has to be "whiny children" well so be it, better than "senile and apathetic Cold War relics" doing nothing.

@mrbojangles25: i think if convicted he'd be barred from holding federal office again. that and he'd lose a bunch of ex-president perks like security detail, pension, etc.... ( which he can afford on his own anyway )

imo it's also the symbolism of it. last week's attack was a BIG fucking deal and to allow that to go on with no consequences sets bad precedent.

You mean holding elected officials accountable for inciting treason, i.e. storming the capital to attempt to kidnap politicians who refuse to cave into an egomaniac's desire to hold the presidency? Also the same riot that led to the death of an officer and injury of other officers who staved off that same riot?

Cry some more trumpette. Or should I say seditionist?

Okay, I see. So I'm assuming that's just some sort of real-time expiration for his term, meaning he can leave office any time between now and his ended term?

That and forcing a reckoning on all Republican Reps and Senators. Let them vote and reveal their true nature. If you have been playing along for self interest you can at least attempt to rehabilitate your moral character with an impeachment vote. But if after all of this you vote against, when there is no direct harm to the Rep Party itself or policy, then the Party should consider you to be unfit as well and seek to oust you in a primary challenge. If I was a Republican mega donor I'd watch this carefully.

That won't happen because so many politicians are weasels. That is the core problem.

Yeah. It's probably automatic. Keep it in mind and check after Biden has entered. I think he will get the same page.

Is "insurrection" or "sedition" the word of the week for you liberals? Hating someone is one thing and it is evident you do but tossing crap at the wall in hope of it sticking is something entirely different and that's what happens when emotion fuels a person.

They were attempting to kidnap and/or kill politicians opposed to Trump. It was politically driven and were attempting to subvert the rule of law and governance. Facts are facts.

Again, it's all emotionally driven and used, IMO wrongly, to stoke the fire. A mob? Yes. A riot? No argument there.

They were attempting to kidnap and/or kill politicians opposed to Trump. It was politically driven and were attempting to subvert the rule of law and governance. Facts are facts.

Cry more. It's all you Trumpettes can do.

Rioters armed with flags were going to kidnap and kill politicians? Kid, you sound unstable.

Yeah they had a gallows and were screaming hang pence because they were peaceful. They had guns/weapons because they were peaceful. They destroyed property because they were peaceful. They killed a cop because they were peaceful.
