Trump takin' your guns away!

“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.

“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.

Although I support gun control measures, I do hope you see the issue here: Punishment without due process, which is a violation of the 5th Amendment, which is part of our Constitution.

But hey, it's okay. At least we got those 2nd amendment thumpers protecting mah freedums from the gubermint, right? RIGHT?

If he can get a modicum of Republican support, maybe Trump is going to do more for gun control than Democrats have done in decades.

Now hopefully the NRA wont get in the way by buying Republican politicians with the gazillions of dollars they make selling fully semi automatic AR-17's with high capacity clips to children.

It will be incredible to hear nothing about this from the GOP. Gun ownership is a self-identifying trait for a whole lot of people, the idea that it would be totally cool for the president they voted for to say he wants to take away their guns before due process would be astounding.

If getting a President whose campaign was pretty openly conspiring with a foreign country to change the outcome of an election and a Congress whose party was rigging voting laws and gerrymandering districts across the country and who not only blocked a sitting president from appointing a Supreme Court justice but also blocked him from appointing a record number of judicial nominees in order to tilt the judiciary ideologically wasn't the time for a revolution to protect against tyranny, then I don't know when is.

I would be surprised to see anything actually come of this. Trump has sided initially with Democrats multiple times then changed his mind following talks with GOP members.

All that's going to happen is that gun manufacturers will make a ton of money off of AR-15 sales because of the scare. Republicans will push a bill that arms teachers and allows CCWs to cross state lines. Democrats won't go for it. And the Democrats will catch the blame for not protecting the kids.

It will be interesting to see how far this goes. Something needs to be done about gun violence, but things like this are the type of things that costs someone their reelection (“Read My Lips” from Bush Sr. comes to mind).

It will also be interesting to see how many liberals that bashed Trump for not stepping up on gun violence will give him credit for going against his party, versus the ones that will just laugh at him for flip-flopping and move on to the next thing to bash him on.

So if Trump did nothing you would complain. And now Trump explains what you could do you also complain. /fp.

As to what Trump said I 100% agree if they have credible intel on a person and all that stands in the way is getting it passed court, they should have, legal power to take them and keep them until the court has decided. Which is no different than in so many other cases like with money and other goods.

Also, it does not violate the 5th amendment, confiscation is within the power of the police. If they took them without taking it through court, it would be.

Meaning, that the candidate says 1 thing out of many that may appeal to them on some level and to hell with the rest of the issues that go against their interests. I say this seriously. Many, many people are idiots who have no concept of what is good for them. This is how it always has been and will never change. He is not suggesting anything in violation of the 5th.

Again he is suggesting that the police do like any other case where a confiscation is needed, obtain a court order for seizure and then hold the guns until the main question has been heard in a court.
