Speaking from an Australian context, the phrase "go back to where you came from" is invariably linked to Pauline Hanson and her One Nation party. They're openly racist, and sadly have a lot of supporters in the backwater parts of our country.

There's no debate over the phrase here in Australia. It's always used by old white people against people who look 'foreign', regardless of where they were born. It's a simple statement of "I'm right because I'm white, so accept it or leave the country".

So yes, this is an openly racist statment from Trump. I'm not surprised though - he says awful things all the time. It's what makes him so appealing to the backwater parts of the US.

Any president of this country (USA) who makes a official statement like that should be a clear sign that you are supporting the wrong team and have gone so extreme that they are willing to undermine the core values of the country.
