@sonicare: The Tory government won’t allow the Scottish another referendum.

In general, I believe we are stronger together, but in Scotland’s case they’re better off leaving the UK. The North Sea still has quite a lot of oil left and it will make Scotland super rich!

They're all crawling back out of the woodwork now. Miliband will be slithering in next with new, new labour I suppose.

@burntbyhellfire: Actually, economically Scotland would be one of the richest nations on earth if it was independent.

Scotland still have quite a lot of crude oil in the North Sea. The international oil pricing benchmark, called Dated BFOE uses oil from the Forties oil field in the North Sea.

Given the small population and sizeable oil reserves, Scotland would be so much better off as an independent nation.

It would also remain in the EU!

What will Scotland and Northern Ireland do? Both were pretty strong remainers, weren't they?

If Scotland and Northern Ireland regain independence wouldn't that be a win-win for everyone? Scotland and North Ireland would probably be well received by the EU, and England will get to be even more uniquely itself/isolated.

I don't think that's in the cards, though.

If it happens, it probably happens to Scotland first, given the support for their SNP. But I don't know what is technically required for that to happen. If they need permission from England... That's unlikely to happen. Another vital question is whether the EU could and would simply allow Scotland/N.Ireland to stay, or take them in without some lengthy procedure. Given the whole situation I bet the answer is lengthier on paper than in reality.
