Xi Jinping becomes most powerful leader since Mao

Xi Jinping has been consecrated as China’s most powerful leader since Mao Zedong after a new body of political thought carrying his name was added to the Communist party’s constitution.

The symbolic move came on the final day of a week-long political summit in Beijing – the 19th party congress – at which Xi has pledged to lead the world’s second largest economy into a “new era” of international power and influence.

At a closing ceremony in the Mao-era Great Hall of the People on Tuesday it was announced that Xi’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era had been written into the party charter.

“The congress unanimously agrees that Xi Jinping Thought … shall constitute [one of] the guides to action of the party in the party constitution,” a party resolution stated.

Xi Jingping is known for his anti-corruption reforms and in those more unbiased news outlets he is mentioned as a very popular leader among the Chinese people.

Tho its also mentioned that he has been hard on the internet in terms of censorship. Not to mention he has "threatened" Americas influence in Asian

Did he also not place an earlier nobel peace winner and outspoken critic of him in housearrest until it was to late save him from the cancer he got?

Sure, but still don´t see a problem. And also the chinese people seem to not care.

It´s only liberals in the us and the west who think Xi Jingping is bad.

His own people aren't allowed to dissent. And a democracy SHOULD see what he does as bad.

China sensors a lot. Using "public safety" as reason, they arrest people who are criticizing the communist party.

But I guess by your judgement, leader of North Korea is quite popular as well.

Yup, because we don't hear anything from north-koreans who flee to the west. And also "little rocket man" is a player on the world stage.

Sure China's government censors everything, But in these tech times, you really think there wouldn't be people finding a way to discuss their unhappiness.

It is the other forms of censor you don't necessarily hear about. The link I gave in my previous posts mentions that Cambridge University took down 300 articles at the request of the Chinese government, unless they want their site blocked entirely in China. 300 articles deemed politically sensitive by the Chinese government.

Oh and it is basically only one political party in China.

Ya i read that but i think Cambridge did it more because of the many newly rich chinese and it would hurt them on the bottom line if they were blocked in China.

Yes, i know it´s the only political party, but let me ask. Why do you believe democracy in our form is the best? China is the fastest growing economy and has the highest % of millionaires, not to mention their work ethic is not corrupted like in most of western europe.

I'm not saying our form of democracy is the best, I think it is better than what they have in China though. Ours have weaknesses as well. Lobbying and the damage that can do is obvious in some countries.

However we are free to criticize our own government. Basic human rights are upheld far better. We have checks and balances.

As for work ethic. Don't expect the common worker to have a good work ethic when the leaders get away with anything. Heck they are rewarded even if their decisions are horrible for the company.

I bet some here in America would disagree we have it better than China right now. Obama has many so turned that they would want him for life.

But do you know the saying democracy is "two wolves and a sheep debating what is for dinner" not to mention many politicians in europe has gone the same way, remember after Brexit how many european politicians who said they would never "allow" for a vote on something as important as that. That is no better than what is going on in China

I have worked with asians and all have a much higher work ethic than any , so im sure the common worker also has a much higher standard. Same goes for universities, Asians rock it there, they work hard, study hard and do not run around like the far-left asking for "safe spaces"
