YouTube blocks all anti-vaccine content | Reuters

WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) - YouTube will block all anti-vaccine content, moving beyond its ban on false information about the COVID vaccines to include content that contains misinformation about other approved vaccines, it said in a blog post on Wednesday.

Nice. Great move, a lot of Americans only know false information regarding vaccines. Dangerous information.

Next up: All the usuals will complain about censorship, misconstrue what the 1st amendment protects, and cry persecution.

Good on YouTube. I hope this pressures Facebook and Twitter to follow suit. If anti-vaxxers want to get their nonsense out to the masses they can put it on Parlor or rent out a local billboard in their plague filled city.

Good riddance.

People like Steven Crowder and Dim Fool have done a ton of damage by spreading and encouraging people to not do the bare minimum for mitigating this plague.

Did Tim Pool suddenly have a personality change or is this some kind of brand marketing switch to the low information crowd?

Here's the policy and a YouTube official blog post about it since basic journalism is a struggle these days.

Partisanship does the worst to people. I believe both Tim Pool, and his low information audience are working together to drag eachother under the mud.

@Maroxad: What's the problem with Pool? He's not left enough? You know... he actually says to talk with your doctor to make informed decisions about the vaccine as your doctor knows (or should know) the right choice for you based on your medical history. Seems the only "problem" with Pool is that he uses logic.

Thanks for this. The Reuters headline is alarmist and downright false. I'd definitely take issue with YT deleting content which criticised or questioned vaccine policy or ethics, but the blog post makes clear that this kind of material is permitted as long as it doesn't contain factually false information.

@zaryia: Other than his stance on 2A which he explains, can you give a direct example of when he's changed his view on something? I've been listening to the guy regularly for a couple years now and he's pretty consistent.

Bolded: Which is likely all the content that criticizes and questions vaccine efficacy. Stevo's links basically verify the OP. I'm not seeing the disconnect here. From the link:

"If you're posting content

Don’t post content on YouTube if it includes harmful misinformation about currently approved and administered vaccines on any of the following:

  • Vaccine safety: content alleging that vaccines cause chronic side effects, outside of rare side effects that are recognized by health authorities
  • Efficacy of vaccines: content claiming that vaccines do not reduce transmission or contraction of disease
  • Ingredients in vaccines: content misrepresenting the substances contained in vaccines"

He's always been trash but it seems like he's more delusional than before. His predictions on the 2020 election were pure fantasy. Now it's 100% conspiracy territory.

I see where you're coming from, but what I wrote was:

Which is the only anti-vax content I've seen in my own subs. Then again, I don't subscribe to political YT channels. Have a look again at my original comment and at the Reuters headline:

YouTube blocks all anti-vaccine content

About damned time.

I consider people that post such misinformation no better than foreign or domestic agents committing acts of counter-intelligence and espionage.

@Stevo_the_gamer said:

Here's the policy and a YouTube official blog post about it since basic journalism is a struggle these days.

You want us to read?!?!?! How dare you, sir.

Anyway, they have a nice summary of bullet points of what is not allowed:

Examples

Here are some examples of content that’s not allowed on YouTube:

Claims that vaccines cause chronic side effects such as:

    • Cancer
    • Diabetes
    • Other chronic side effects

Claims that vaccines do not reduce risk of contracting illness

Claims that vaccines contain substances that are not on the vaccine ingredient list, such as biological matter from fetuses (e.g. fetal tissue, fetal cell lines) or animal byproducts

Claims that vaccines contain substances or devices meant to track or identify those who’ve received them

Claims that vaccines alter a person’s genetic makeup

Claims that the MMR vaccine causes autism

Claims that vaccines are part of a depopulation agenda

Claims that the flu vaccine causes chronic side effects such as infertility

Claims that the HPV vaccine causes chronic side effects such as paralysis

However, there is a loophole:

Educational, scientific, artistic, or testimonial content

YouTube may allow content that violates the misinformation policies noted on this page if that content includes additional context in the video, audio, title, or description. This is not a free pass to promote misinformation. Additional context may include countervailing views from local health authorities or medical experts. We may also make exceptions if the purpose of the content is to condemn, dispute, or satirize misinformation that violates our policies. We may also make exceptions for content showing an open public forum, like a protest or public hearing, provided the content does not aim to promote misinformation that violates our policies.

Sounds like you can't lie, but you can provide your opinion even if it goes against the terms above provided you're like "Well, I disagree because blah blah blah".

Oh, and you can still get and spread covid if you have the vaccine. They're actually in favor of suppressing truth.

Fascist people, political bodies, or groups generally don't care about the greater good, society, or helping people. Well, maybe in theory they might (no doubt Hitler did indeed wake up in the morning thinking about making Germany a better place, despite not actually doing so) but in practice they don't. This policy, however, will actually help in practice.

I'm more curious why you think people should be able to mislead and harm people.

@thenation said:

Title is definitely misleading.

You can still argue against vaccines, express your opinion, and talk about it...you just can't state it as fact and lie.

It's kind of funny that you could lie before and it has taken this long to correct that.

@mrbojangles25: No. It's giving the power of what the truth is to a social media search engine controlled by the globalists/socialists. I dare you to post a video questioning the vaccines and the authoritarianism occurring here. Hell... play it safe and question the blatant fascism occurring in Australia. Let's see how quickly that video gets removed.

No it is not.

You accused them of being fascist = It is not

You bragged about vaccinated people spreading covid = This is rare and an attempt to discredit vaccines

You said social media is controlled by socialists = They are not and you don't what socialism is

You claim globalization is bad = It is not

You griped about growing authoritarianism = There is none from the left and failed to prove otherwise

You griped about fascism in Australia = You proved none and there isn't any from the left

You gripe about socialism - You have no idea what it is or who actually is one

Should I continue or do you want to proceed with your baseless claims?

Vaccine hesistancy, made the most progress in countries with seeping authoritarianism.

India, Russia, Brazil, the USA, UK. All countries with growing nationalist sentiments and disturbing authoritarianist streaks. Even in countries they don't hold power, you will notice the authoritarian parties like AfD be the anti-vaxxers.

Not surprising of course, destructive ideologies tend to be deeply anti-intellectual. Nationalism and Mussolini style fascism come to mind. Not surprising these governments tend to be the most incompetent.

Meanwhile, the Quartering is regularly uploading anti-black/gay/woman videos 3 times a day profiting off confused, angry young men. Basically incels.

Be nice if they booted his ass off it as well. As he's quite clearly cancer.

Not really much intellectual thought there other than, "I don't like him very much". Doubt even believes 99% of the shit he spouts, just perpetual easy bottom scraping rage for money where kids are buying into his shit.

Meanwhile, Canada passed a bill specifically targeting/limiting freedom of assembly related to it.

Australians facing off with police and protesting/rioting over the lockdowns.

Small protests in New Zealand.

Summer protests in Europe which included the UK, Italy, France, Greece, etc. Some Swedes protested earlier this year.

Citizens protesting restrictions/government mandates and being arrested/dispersed across the globe by their governments, and it's "authoritarian" for those in US/UK to conflict with such views.

Authoritarian: favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom.

But I get it. How about we praise China some more too while we're at it for their "effectiveness." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I want to get rid of this plague. Anti-vaxxers are the ones prolonging this plague. Giving the virus more room to mutate as well. If taking away their negative freedoms to be stupid, means the rest of us get to enjoy more positive freedoms. Then so be it.

Acknowledging that China curbed the plague better than most western nations did does not mean I praise them. It just means that we are acknowledging the good that comes with the bad. This is what happens when you don't see things in black and white.

Also, are you kidding me? Are oyu trying to imply that Modi, Bolsonaro, Trump werent authoritarian?

Just because they have some more laissez faire stances, doesn't take away from their overall theme of authoritarianism. Again, the good comes with the bad.

@vfighter: Not sure what's so baffling about that post as to imply mental illness, unless find something extraordinarily wacky said there.

He is also, btw a anti-vaccine propagator appealing specifically to these people, trying to tip-toe around the issue with "your body, do what you want", so if you feel he doesn't fit the specific category, yea, he fits that bill as well.

Unless you wish to defend this fellow, in which case, have fun with that.

Stevo dropping the mic as usual, careful though the far left don't like it when you show them actual facts, they'll just call you a Trump supporter.

But again you are trying to talk to Marox who lacks in any common sense. Hell the guy actually thinks these jabs will protect you from the Delta variant when it only protects you from the previous two variants.

@uninspiredcup: I don't like the guy, at least what I've seen on YouTube, but you've brought him up in multiple threads out of the blue, just kinda weird is all.

@vfighter: Yes, I don't like him. I think he's a racist, has a hatred of woman, and a homophobe promoting those views to teenagers for profit. I literally, wish ill on him.

Hopefully this post clears things up.

40 % of health care workers do not want to be vaccinated, are they uniformed? The teachers in NY filed a law suit to stop the teachers from being forced to take the vaccine are they uninformed? Many people with a PHD do not want to take the vaccine are they uninformed?

I understand why they want to do it, but its not a good solution. The issue with this is that if someone has legitimate concerns about a vaccine they risk being banned for expressing it

anyone knows the case of oxycotin ? That was FDA approved and considered safe. Its not a vaccine, i just mean that things that are regarded as safe can end up having massive problems.

Seriously,, what type anti vaccine have been blocked?

I'd like to know this too. I hope YT is making their specific reasoning very clear for each takedown.

I've got no special love for YT beyond its content, and honestly, the stranglehold Alphabet Inc. has over search and video content worldwide should be a worry to everyone AFAIC. Like most big-tech companies, they've established market dominance due to effective and explicit blind-eye policies regarding company vs. individual liability on copyright and communication while the web is in its infancy. For them to now wield regualtion as a weapon feels hypocritical and frankly kind of sinister.

Joe Biden was supposed to be specifically targeting a lot of these guys, but it's not something I've heard much about since his election. Australia, India and Russia seem to be the only parties taking any real action against what's feeling more and more like de facto monopoly on multiple aspects of electronic communications and information. The EU seems to have shut up about its own complaints too, ever since minimum tax levies were agreed, which is also a huge concern IMO.

As it stands, it's sort of on a knife-edge, but if these companies become much more censorious, domestic private status be damned, there will be literally no reason left to prefer them over competitors from states which were once considered relatively oppressive and authoritarian, and that's frightening.
