A project for this section of the forum.

I was thinking when I asked for a list of genesis games that are essential. It would need some contributions from everybody, but we could make an essentials list for most of the old systems and maybe have it a sticky?

That way people could come in and see what each system has to offer. A lot of people do not know what gems are each system and do not know what they're missing out on.

I'm down for that. We've had a couple of recommendation threads before, so having a stickied thread(s) would be a good idea. I got the Genesis (and maybe the Saturn) covered lol.

@n64dd: That is actually one of the reasons I have been building my own alternative to gamespot, I was literally about to ask @Renegade_Fury if he would have any interest in writing up some stuff for the Sega Consoles in PM when I saw this thread.

Good idea but it will be difficult for people to settle on what is essential.

Well we don't have to do every single game we really like, just games that are core like sonic, mario and shit.

No it's a good idea. The only issue would be over listing. In reality the essential games on most platforms is on the smaller side.

@n64dd: Don't know how well it would work, but users could vote for games they consider essential, and games that more votes would be atop the list, with the less voted titles nearer the bottom.

'Essential' implies the very best which most people know anyway (especially when it concerns the genesis/mega drive...there aren't very many) Wouldn't a highly recommended stickie be better where people can also post obscure games/hidden gems. Or sort it into 3rd gen/4th gen/5th gen...I don't know, just throwing in some ideas haha

All ideas are appreciated. Just trying to make a thread that would get people to appreciate the retro scene a little more and have a good place to start.

Our community manager, DigitalDame, has some good thoughts on how to actually operationalize this. I'll touch base soon!
