Cruis'n Exotica for the N64(which was BTW the first video game I ever played in my life)
First racing game was RC Pro Am, which I got to play again this week. First non iso-view racer was one of my favorites though, F1 Pole Position on the SNES, used to race my dad in a pair of williams cars all the time, miss those days.
Super Mario Kart, Super Hang-On, and Outrun were my early ones, don't remember which was first since they were all around the same time.
I have absolutely no idea. It's strange, I can remember the first game I played in a lot of different genres (or at least have an idea of what it might be), but I can't for the life of me remember which racing game I played first. It must've been some arcade game I played somewhere (probably at a bowling ally) but I don't know.
@n64dd: Nope. That was the first game that came to mind. But I replayed it and it's definitely not. I used to play it at my buddies house over 20 years ago. I asked him and he doesn't remember either and it was bugging him too. He confirmed it wasn't Road Rash lol
I'm not sure really. Some forgettable arcade game that I forgot the name off (probably Cruisin' as you travelled around the world). Though the first racing game I was hooked on was Star Wars Episode I: Racer for the N64.
Mario Kart 64 for me I believe. I remember some arcade machine I played at the local pizza joint that was racing, but can't recall the name.
Wow gotta seriously think about this one... I think it was either the first Need for Speed (came out in the mid 90s I think) on PC, or maybe a Formula 1 game on PS1.
I must be the oldest one to post, I'm 40. The first racing game I remember playing was "Dragster" on an Atari 2600. It was the first game my dad got us. After that came "Grand Prix" also on the 2600. Racing games have and always will be my favorite games to play.
Pole Position and Super Sprint are the oldest ones that I remember playing. There may be others that I tried before, but I don't remember them. I was very young back then. I remember playing Outrun and Hang-on in the arcades too. I thought those games were amazing.
I have no idea what the game was called but the first racing game I played was on the SNES. I remember you could choose from like 3 cars and you were able to upgrade different parts of the car. There were different environments to be driven in but once you crashed you'd go back to some garage. I have no idea what that game was called but I had a lot of fun playing it with my cousin when we were kids!
The first racing game that I can remember was The Need For Speed: SE for Windows 95(and DOS).
Damn good memories.
Hmm... was probably Chase H.Q. on the arcades, or Turbo OutRun ( which I then bought for my C64 :D ).
I remember Pole Position... but there was another game on the Atari 2600 that I cant recall the name of.. maybe it was F1?
Actually I think it was either Pole Position 1 or 2. I have very fuzzy memories of it though.
@pyro1245 I thought of trying that game out since it's on GOG.
Does anyone remember or ever played wave race on Nintendo 64? That is the first racing game I was actively playing that I can remember (I’m sure there were some earlier crappy ones for mac, which was certainly more limited back than than PCs int terms of games, but I was such a fan of wave race. And not too bad at it either! But I think I never managed to unlock the last racecourses haha
Hmmm, I can't recall playing any racing games on the NES, so I think my first racing game must have been Super Mario Kart.

Yes, Wave Race was a lot of fun. Never did own it for some reason though, just rented it a couple times. I should buy it now, I think it's only a few bucks.
The first racing game I remember playing was on the Acorn Electron, a budget version of the BBC Micro computer. There was a game on it that resembled Sega's 1979 arcade maze-racing game Head-On, but I don't remember what the game itself was called. In other words, my first racing game was some kind of Head-On clone for the Acorn Electron computer.
As for the first racing game I actually remember the name of, it was Chase HQ on the Sega Master System. It was a great game that was way ahead of its time, where you had to chase criminals and ram into them while avoiding the traffic. It was an ancestor to the chase/combat driving gameplay of stuff like Road Rash, Mario Kart, Driver, Burnout, GTA, and Hot Pursuit.

Yes it was really cheap last time I checked ! I mean it is repetitive after a while of course but it was a good racing game - I remember playing it with friends after school and all (highlight of our days :P )
