I was board today and decided to see how much some of my collection was worth. I went on various sites and eBay to check prices and discovered some of my games are worth quite a bit.

Some PS1 games such as FF7, PaRappa and MediEvil landed generally at minimum in the $20-$30 range. Some Dreamcast games like Seaman, MvC2, and Berserk landed a minimum of $25-$50.

My best was Haunting Ground on PS2 landing at minium at $65 and going upwards of $150.

13 games tallied up a minimum of $300. Considering how old they are, it's pretty impressive.

Have you guys ever taken a step back and looked at your collection's worth?

I check every now and then out of morbid curiosity, and it always grosses me out how more expensive everything gets. Several of my games have skyrocketed in value, and then there's ones like Panzer Dragoon Saga which I've seen go for $600+ recently. I remember for years people kept saying that the retro price bubble was going to pop, but it's been anything but the case. Personally, I buy games not to stare at them, but to play them, so it annoys me how much collectors have ruined this hobby.

I have started cataloguing my collection in a spreadsheet, but honestly, it's taking a while to get that filled in. For each item I own, I'm going and looking at the recent eBay sales to see if I can find something roughly equivalent and gauge the estimated value.

If I added everything up, I'd say there's probably a few thousand dollars worth of stuff there. But that's just my gut feel at the moment. Like Renegade_Fury, I buy games to play them and not to stare at them (although the exception is the CIB unopened box set of Segagaga on Dreamcast - since there's currently no patch or method to translate to English, I can't play it sadly so it is just sitting there).

Do you know how to properly see what your games MIGHT be worth on ebay? I hate it when people just look up a game, the most expensive listings pop up and they assume it's worth their weight in gold, it infuriates me.

- Always set your search results to Lowest Cost + Shipping

- Click the Sold Items checkbox to the left to see how much your game actually sold for and average that

Don't just assume you have some insanely valuable stuff just because some idiot on ebay decided to try their luck and listed a game for $100+

Yeah I'd hope that goes without saying (although perhaps not). I'd just add:

- Always compare like with like (similar quality, model, etc...)

- Get a few examples of like products and average them out (don't just take highest or lowest value)

- Don't just rely on eBay

@White_Wolf_Kiba: I always go based off of the lowest cost as the point is to sell the game, not wish I can retire off of it.
