I am rather ashamed of this but i've never completed Super mario world...
The funny thing is: I've beaten contra without the konami code and yet never managed to win that game!
@dylandr: yep,I suck at them back then, even if I can finish it now,it's too late,I traded the PSX in upgrade to PS2
@dylandr: sorry,I don't have a PSN to buy any virtual copies,I cannot use my parents credit card as well, because I'm afraid of losing my 13.000 Rp. worth of chump change
@davillain-: Don't be sad about battle toads, most people don't finish that game, especially the arcade version! :)
You know, I never got the chance to play the Arcade version. Wasn't lucky enough to check out the Arcade version, although I heard great things about it. I only played Battletoads/Double Dragon and the Gameboy versions.
Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. Still slowly working on them. I just keep getting distracted by newer games or social outings.
Just about to say the same thing. I'll get to them after the Layton games this year.
Battletoads/Double Dragon, although Battletoads in Ragnarok's World was where I failed miserably. The hardest game during my life time and never finish it.
Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team would also have be my answer. I used to play the Genesis version a lot back in the day, but I couldn't get past stage 3. More recently, I've gotten stage to 4, but that's it. I've never played any of the other Battletoads games, but I've heard that the first one is one of the hardest games ever.
Right now, I haven't beaten Dragon Age and I'm on the last story DLC for the main game (didn't buy Awakening yet). I should also be getting back to Jedi Knight.
For the more retro side, eh, quite a few.
@Smashbrossive50: I mean emulator ;p
nope,I don't see the good in emulating games(I can however refer to WoL for reference or people who do it better than me)...in compensation,I switched to In the Hunt(a submarine side scroller, similar to that of Einhänder, only easier)
I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting.
Tons to be honest... I don't need to finish a game to consider having played it (for example I've played Far Cry 4, I'm not about to finish it though, it's too fucking monotonous), and I often get my fill of a game before actually finishing it.
Since we're talking retro, here's a list of games that I haven't finished (that I actually would've liked to finish, not games I got tired of):
I sorta forgive myself for not finishing those, except for FFX... it's hands down one of my favourite games ever, and though I've watched my sister finish it and absolutely loved the narative, it's a real shame I've never gotten around to finishing it myself...
Lots of them but one I want to and intend to correct is Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse. It's hard though. XD
I don't remember. Growing up we'd rent games for 2 or 3 days and have that amount of time to beat a game. I don't know if games like Bubble Bobble are considered hard to beat but I remember going through that game in coop. Mega Man, Bucky Ohare.........so many great platformers on the NES. What I find crazy is that we played most of the NES library back then.
ONE game on the snes that I remember finding very difficult was Equinox. I'm not sure if it was the repetitive design or the downright neon color palette.

Same here. The list would be too long to list of games I have not beat.
too many games on the NES and SNES that I never finished because renting couldn't get you that far. From the PSX and onward I finished them once I started them, I remember beating Warhawk on the PSX the weekend I rented it, it was epic.
In the games I own from retro system, I think only FFVIII that I haven't completed
Any nes game aside from sweet home. ninja garden 2 (360) on master ninja if that counts. I generally beat any game I play unless I don't like it, but if u mean games I intended to beat but couldn't, then any nes game and ninja garden 2 on MN
@dylandr: my statement stands,I insist that I prefer using the actual console...only because I traded what I have back then doesn't mean I will look out for it again,it's all dark history for me,sure it's sad,but I better move on and recently I stumbled upon the Wii's release of Sonic Unleashed...I happen to have trouble finishing the first Eggmanland level..maybe WoL would help me figure out how to make a quick escape from that awfully hard level
@dylandr: by trail and error you mean if I were to grind my foot to the wrong trail I might fall, yeah I see how it is,but the downside is I only have 8 lives to make it or die in it.I always die in the midway, once I died just when the goal ring is just 4-6 blocks away, sucks to be the 4Kids' Sonic(he's way more cocky than he is now)
@dylandr: I played it for months and even years to do it,to no luck it's still a fruitless tree,so I moved on to 2 years later in which I can beat a newer game(Colors)
@dylandr: slap harder..I've been in a retro gaming pause for too long,if you don't believe me I'll give you WoL,they make rock candies as tasty as getting laid
