Hi,

I'm going to be brief. There is a Nazi-like ignorance within the 'Gaming Community' that you have to conform to liking what the 'Gaming Community' deems suitable. I was once an adolescent child who simply enjoyed gaming without understanding the components systemically. This is predominantly directed to computerized fans and their lack of historical knowledge regarding Gaming to repair the blatant damage of which has been inflicted on not only the 'Gaming Community' but Gaming as a whole.

I would like to know your experience with this and how it has affected you and your experience with Gaming.

Thanks!

Are you saying that people take games too seriously now or are too analytical when it comes to games? I'm not sure what you mean.

One thing I will say though is that I've noticed a trend towards greater anger and saltiness in general. Although rivalries always existed, I feel like people were into games purely for the fun, and all kinds of fun were considered okay. But now everything feels so divided - you have to choose a brand, you have to justify your purchasing choices by referencing sales and market success, you have to choose games that have a historically important impact on the industry, etc etc...

Can't it just be about what's fun to play, regardless of brand or how "revolutionary" the game is? Sometimes I miss those simpler times. :-)

I am a collector and advocate of video game history and I almost exclusively purchase obscure, unusual, and unknown games. So many people in the gaming community are missing out on a rich history and scoffing at most games as unworthy and beneath them. I think it is sad. I wish more would be open to trying different things outside of the 5 or 6 top tier games out there. I strive for my Twitch channel to show people what else is out there.

This is basically how I feel. There's too many great games out there to simply write off one console or another.

It's a real shame, and you see it loud and clear in console war threads and in threads trashing the hell out of "indies" and such. There is a loud vocal group now that can't fathom that someone might simply like something else for their own reasons and that it's FINE.

I am reminded of a recent thread in System Wars showcasing a Switch racing title with retro visuals and vehicular combat. Thing looks fun as hell and oozes nostalgia, and yet half the damn comments in the thread are "LOLing" about how "crap" the graphics are. FFS, are people seriously incapable of understanding artistic choice or good old fashioned gameplay-oriented GAMING? I like bleeding edge graphics too - up to a point. Hell no I don't want it for every game, and if I had to miss the artistry of Journey or The Unfinished Swan or Hyperlight Drifter or Okami, I'd enjoy gaming less

Ride on variety, I welcome thee - and sometimes retro-gaming is the best place to find it and get away from the 201X AAA Blockbuster trolls

This is really well said. I agree 100%.

I have always been eager to play all different kinds of games, and I feel as though I can never own enough gaming platforms! I wish I had the time and money to own them all! I can't ever imagine shutting one or the other out in the cold for arbitrary tribal reasons.

Personal preferences aside, I'm a gamer at heart and I love great games, period. That's the thing that gets me excited to talk about games and to share my love for them. I love it when I see that passion in others too. :D

Hum... I feel your pain but lets get real shall we? A huge chunk of gamers just play FIFA, COD and other super mainstream stuff. They don't really care about game systems, level design or the history of the medium. Just like lots of people consume movies without having passion or knowledge about cinema. And we can say the same about music, literature... Hell we can say that about pretty much everything. Food, wines, cars, etc, etc.

There are people, as your described, in all sorts of popular hobbies/past-times that act like that. Ignore them or debate with them. You can tell fairly early on if it's worth discussing things with them or not.

I take people on how they come across. If they come across as a jerk, they are probably a jerk. If not , they are alright. Their knowledge doesn't really factor into it.
