Heavy Metal: Geomatrix on the Dreamcast. My theory is Capcom wanted to reuse the engine they built for the Spawn Arcade game, but didn't want to pay for the licence to make a sequel. So they got a cheaper licence and gave the team half the budget to work with. The smaller scope made the camera and lock on problems that plagued Spawn less of an issue in Heavy Metal, and ultimately it turned out to be the better game.

I know Capcom isn't a small publisher or anything, but even at the time of release most people didn't seem to know this game existed.

I was thinking about this game a bit today:

It had an interesting concept. The game broke the fourth wall a lot and had you watching over this professor on the top screen, while controlling the main character on the bottom screen. You could get better at doing anything the more you did it, kind of like in Runescape, and whenever you ate food there was a cooldown to how long it would be again before you could eat more to restore more health. There were different costumes you could equip to change your skill specialization, too.

It was quirky and odd enough that it had that Grasshopper Manufacture/Suda 51 magic, but basic enough that it didn't do anything overly ambitious or fun. Still, I think it's one of those games I would have given another look if I'd had the time.

There is the game called The Silver Case. It was made by Suda51 I believe and it is on steam and goodoldgames.com.

It’s a visual novel that was supposed to be on the 3DS, but got cancelled.

I'm fairly certain that done well. It's sequels 2-3 not so much.

The most obscure game I could think of that I loved is a NES game called Magic of Scherazade. It is part overhead action rpg(ala zelda) and part turn based party RPG.

It is a game that had so many cool features that you just didnt see often back then, selectable classes, team attacks, a shopkeeper you can haggle with, and time travel where the what you do in the past affect the present and future. It is a game that literally noone ever talks about but it is a very solid game, I havent played it in years so I'm not sure how it aged but I loved it as a kid.

I'm recommending "Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos" now to my relative, after he finished "Deus Ex 4" and "Witcher 3". :) Somehow he missed it at years of Wolfenstein and Doom 1. :)
