Hello,

I recently bought a blue bottomed disc for the ps2. When I put the disc inside the ps2 the disc won't read and it will say disc read error. The disc has lots of scratches on the back not heavy ones just minor ones.

Any suggestions on what I can do?

Thanks

You can try disc scratch repair techniques - you can buy kits at places like best buy. Not sure how well the actually work...

Another potential issue is the PS2's lasers get weaker over time, making it more likely to give disc read errors for different format discs. It may be that your laser needs adjustment or replacement to handle the blue discs, regardless of scratches.

Take the ps2s case off and clean the laser eye with a Q tip and maybe a tiny bit of alcohol. Could just be a dirty/dusty eye. It worked for me a few years ago.

Strangely if your consol isn't in English those blue/purple games don't work at all.

Hello,

My ps2 is English and I opened it up today and I blew the heck out of it and the lens.

I cleaned the lens and the game still won't read.

Any more suggestions?

My brother says I don't need compressed air.

Any other ways how to fix it.

I don't think the console region matters.

The disc has lots of scratches on it and my brother says it won't work ever again.

Any solution?

And I don't want to clean the disc because I don't know any way to remove scratches off the disc.

Like I said, there are kits you can buy in Staples/Best Buy/etc that claim help at repairing scratches. This is probably your only hope (other than trying hokey wives'-tale stuff involving thoothpaste, toilet flushing, vaseline, etc).

Here's the brand I've seen a lot over the years:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/SkipDr-DVD-and-CD-Manual-Disc-Repair-System/876508960?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=916&adid=22222222227070713625&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=182392563572&wl4=pla-285882865323&wl5=9031927&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=113134359&wl11=online&wl12=876508960&wl13=&veh=sem

You could give that a try

Moved to the Retro Gaming board as we might see some additional help, though I believe xantufrog assisted well.
