Everyone says the PlayStation 2 is goated, but I personally think the original Xbox was superior.

Yes the PS2 had more games, but the quality of OG Xbox games was amazing for the time. Not to mention everything looks and usually plays better on the original Xbox over the PS2. Especially on HD TV's.

OG XBOX Controller "s" still holds up as well, the PS2's controller feels small and dated.

What are your thoughts? Is the PS2 over rated? or was the Original Xbox under appreciated.

I was big on the PS2 back then to be honest. Original Xbox had like one game bro!

I actually think Xbox One is a bit underappreciated though. It basically does nearly everything Xbox series does and generates less heat.

The PS2 library was pretty underwhelming after all the hype surrounding it.

@Sam3231 I've always though that as well about the Xbox One Slims. They are a powerhouse for the price.:

There are a few gems on the Xbox that stand out, but it would be difficult to say they would put the console above the others in the generation. The third party games mostly look the same owing to just porting games around and not bothering to use any of the features, and in fact sometimes they ran worse on the Xbox when they took advantage of the PS2's strengths. One of the big examples at the time of an important game was MGS2.

Games where it looked/ran better on Xbox was mostly lost because everyone was on SDTVs or it was just a game nobody cared about like Wreckless the Yakuza Missions or Malice.

It did some remarkable things like Half Life 2, Doom 3, and Morrowind, but these were niche at the time because these types of games were less familiar on the console and still had to break through to the mainstream, but they were laying the foundation. Still, it wasn't the greatest experience playing Half Life 2 around 15fps and listening to the hard drive constantly grinding and sounding like it was about to fail.

It's easy to have fond memories of all gaming platforms back then though, they each had something unique to offer in their libraries.

It's pretty hard to argue against the PS2's dominance that generation. It had everything you could possibly want, no weakness in the library. XBox was more powerful, but PS2 was close enough that it didn't matter that much.

XBox did have a lot going for it though, and some of the best exclusives of the gen like Halo and Crimson Skies.

Final answer: PS2 is overrated, XBox is underrated; but the PS2 was still better overall.

Has to be PS2, this is back when Sony could actually put out a diverse and compelling lineup of games.

I think nowadays we can all look back and say Xbox put a good effort for their first console, had a compelling lineup, etc. Especially compared to nowadays.

Gamecube was and still is the best tho ;)

@girlusocrazy Max Payne 2 ran and looked better on the original Xbox, same with Return to Castle Wolfenstein, NFL 2K5 and GTA Trilogy just to name a few.:

@charles90s: It's true but I don't think that's enough to win people over. Xbox had to wait a long time for GTA, and for a while it was unclear if it would even become available.

Looking back, it's esdy to pick some titles.that aged a bit better on Xbox, but overall they're very close compared to what happened in the N64/PS1/Saturn days.

Xbox was easily the better system in terms of hardware and features (especially after the controller S released) and it had the best versions of multiplats (besides PC of course). However, PS2 had a lot more quality games that weren't on Xbox. So, I would give it to PS2.

@girlusocrazyI think overall the console has aged better than the PS2. The controller, outputs on HD TV's and the game library is cheaper to find these days. Just my opinion though. PS2 is still amazing, I just dislike the controller now and it looks like utter rubbish without an HD converter.:

Lots of great games on the PS2 but the Xbox had some great stuff and some really cool games like:

- Otogi 2

- Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2

- Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black

- Panzer Dragoon Orta

- Project Gotham Racing

- Forza Motorsport

- Dead or Alive 3

- Halo 1 & 2

@charles90s: I have both CRTs and converters, plus PS3s that can output PS2 games via HDMI and the output is great. I also have the component and VGA output for Xbox and PS2.

PS2 is GOATed. Xbox has a lot of landmark stuff, though. Both need to be preserved far better than they are.

@charles90s: I loved both consoles and had more games on PS2 than Xbox. But the Xbox was my favorite because the games looked/played better on it and it was the first console with good online play. Halo 2 and Ninja Gaiden were better than anything on the ps2.

So yeah I agree with you.
