While replaying my collection of Sonic Games, I noticed something that was unique in Sonic Advance 3.

When you destroy the enemies in the game, a ring pops out of them. This was convenient because at some points I didn't have any Rings. Also, Rings seem like a better power source than animals.

So I wonder which is better when destroying enemies? The animals, the flower seeds, or Rings? Or do you like looking at the remains of the robot you just destroyed like in Unleashed, Colors, and Generations?

Colors gave you white wisps, actually. Also, you got toys for your Chao in the Adventure games (and I think the first two Advance titles). Personally, I prefer the Wisps. Rings is too easy, animals are unique but pretty useless. :P

When I destroyed the enemies I always liked seeing your little buddies pop out of them.

Destroying enemies will always increase your Boost gauge, whether they have Wisps or not.

Rings popped out in Knuckles Chatorix, too, but they were blue and drained from powering the robot, so you couldn't collect them. I always thought the ring-dropping in Sonic Advance 3 was clever. I had mostly forgotten about it until now, but I remember it saving my bacon on multiple occasions. Delicious, delicious bacon... Now I want a BLT. BACK ON TOPIC Powering them with rings makes the most sense to me. I could see him turning the animals INTO robots powered by rings, but imprisoning an animal within a robot just seemed silly. Why not just kill the animal, or put it in an actual prison?

Because actual prisons aren't mobile, and they typically are in the same place. And with robots, even if you eventually lose the battle, your arch-nemesis still has to deal with that fact that one or more of his little friends are still out there, sitting in a robot as a prisoner. Basically, it's a psycho thing.

Good answer. I chose animals anyways because I grew up with that and the old comics.
And phc, you can't collect rings on Knuckles Chaotix like you describe because the loss of the Chaos Rings. They channel to power up the gold rings and if seperated the rings will fade with no power in them. That's the story of the game. Bring the Chaos Rings together again to power the gold rings. Get me?

I liked how in CD, it was kind of like Sonic was trying to go to the past to plant plants. :D

Animals. It was more satisfying. Rings are nice though, and Flowers... f*** that.

Yeah I miss seeing little critters run away from robot wreckage. At least Colors did have the machines the little aliens came out of which was a throwback to the holding containers from older games.

Animals. That was the whole point. They were roboticized. You were saving them.

Finally! A good reason not to play Sonic CD. Thank you. ;)

After playing through the majority of the game, I've only actually found one of said containers. Are there more and I just happen to miss them because they're in the second half of Planet Wisp only?

Hmmmmmmm... There should be an enemy in Generations for each of the Sega staff involved in the decimation of Sonic 06. Then, when you destroy each of those enemies, a signed note of apology should come out of them. On a related note, going through good futures in Sonic CD was amusing because flowers would spring up seemingly out of nowhere, because that was where enemies would have been otherwise.

Well, rings popping out are more convenient, but the point is freeing the animals, so I think that animals makes more sense. That way I guess you'd have a small motivation to kill the badniks instead of trying to skip past them, especially if you got something out of saving the animals.

That's why destroying the capsule at the end of the stage was important. :P

I prefered SA2's way of doing things, where you get items (animals or chaos drives) which can be used on Chao in the Chao World.

I didn't really get the random pipes everywhere that you were supposed to whistle at to find animals, though. That was odd. Also, did anyone actually ever get the extra life in SA2 for finding 10 animals in a stage or something? Always felt like too much effort to me. I think I did it once as Rouge just to see if anything special would happen. (Nothing did)

Screw the animals, Sonic is more important. I'd rather find rings because they actually keep me alive.

Although the rings are important since they protect you.
