Hm.......

Well, we already knew the physics weren't going to be changed and aren't like the originals.

I would have thought they would have given it something a little higher than a 6.5. Also, I disagree with what they said about the boss fights. I like them all, except the one in Lost Labyrinth Zone.

I love how they literally tell you old school is out by stating that old simple bosses are a thing of the past. For gamers, you certainly don't appreciate what you had back then. Most people went "Holy s*** look at these graphics!" when Genesis came out. But back then, it was all about having fun. Now everyone is so drowned in their own egos that no one gives a s***.

"To gain access to the special stages where these are hidden, you must reach the end of a stage with at least 50 rings, which is no easy feat on most stages because a single hit from an enemy sends all your rings flying. Whether you had 50 rings or 250 to your name, a single error when nearing the end of a stage spoils your shot at the emerald, and if you gain access to the special stage where the emerald is kept but fail to complete it, you must begin your pursuit for the emerald anew. This structure is true to the original Sonic games, but by today's standards, it feels needlessly ruthless."

Oh wah, you think Sonic 2's emeralds were easy? Grow up you whiny b****.

eh well. It is what it is. That's how she felt about the game. Who am I to tell her she's wrong about her own feelings on it?

Doesn't change the fact she's a stuck up b**** with no regards to what even brought forth the age of gaming. If it wasn't for these old consoles, she wouldn't have s***. It's one thing to bash a game, it's another to bash the concept of what started gaming at all.

Maybe because she didn't review it like a mature, intelligent human being? How many times has GS reviewed a game days after release and it got a poor review, but 80% of ALL OTHER CRITICS reviewed it oppositely? COUNTLESS TIMES. I have VERY LITTLE respect for GS' review staff already and my understanding for them has grown thin.

I'm dumfounded by all the reviews I've read so far about the game! Even those who scored the game higher than 8 seem to be complaining about the points that all the old school Sonic fans were begging to have! Also it seems like these people have never played a 2D Sonic game in their life! They find this game frustrating? by what standard exactly? My only complain about the game was that it was TOO EASY!

I feel like reviewers are complaining about everything! The game is too easy or too hard. The game is too long or too short. there is no online multiplayer or the online multiplayer feels unnecessary!

To me critics don't mean anything but an opinion these days, you really can't take their word for anything!

Well remember NSMBWii took lots of flack for being too short and and stupid crap as well and yet Kirby's Epic Yarn a game where YOU CAN'T DIE is getting glowing scores. IGN gave it a 9.0. So that should tell you about how flawed so called "game reviews" are.

Okay, well, there were some points in that review that weren't really that accurate. I beat the game in one playthrough with 30 lives to spare, so I'd argue that the whole "keep going back to road of cards" argument is actually a moment where one can validly argue that the reviewer was pretty bad at the game, but most of her other points are dead on. There's a difference between having chaos emeralds be a difficult challenge to beat and unlock on a single playthrough and requiring you to replay a stage over and over just to get to the special stage for a permanent unlock. If you could only get Super Sonic and Chaos Emeralds on a full runthrough, what they did would make sense, but making them a permanent feature turns them from "bonus for beating a level well!" into "I have to grind this one level over and over to get to the Special Stage that's so hard." From an overall game design standpoint, she's right: The Chaos Emerald system was handled really poorly in context. I have the same issue with Sonic Heroes. Fine, make unlocking the special stage an act-based challenge, but don't punish me by making me waste another 6-10 minutes of my life to beat the act again when I fail the special stage, especially when there's a permanent, non-superfluous element locked beneath. I'm honestly surprised they didn't complain about the physics more. Quite honestly, the implementation in this game feel amateur. If I launch out of a cannon, I should NOT suddenly lose all horizontal momentum a few yards out because I'm not holding left. It's jarring. Stop bashing the critics. If they're complaining about something, it's because they didn't find it fun and think it's a valid point the consumer should be worried about. Game Reviews are not, in fact, meant to complete the circlejerk between fans, media, and developers. The only time you have good recourse to complain about a game review is if you have a legitimate concern it will influence buying decisions inappropriately. For example, I was on the fence about downloading Sonic 4 at release, but I saw a few early user reviews trickle in and the review from IGN, which sounded positive, so I made the purchase. In retrospect, the review from IGN barely glossed over some fairly major issues and hyped some elements that really weren't that great, and so I have a valid complaint that their review is influencing purchasing decisions incorrectly. It's a reviewer's job to help you make purchasing decisions as a consumer. If you purchase at release or pre-order anyway, you really have no reason to be reading them or really caring about their contents. If you really think they botched it and are causing people to waste money on a bad game or abstain from a well-developed product, then go write a review, leave a thoughtful comment, and maybe write an email to the editor voicing your concerns. Stop polluting the sane dialogue with all of this talk of "respect" and "bias." /channeling kbaily.

The irony is now when noob fans showed up complaining about how critics were biazed against Shadow's game or some other crap 3D game and now this is out and we're ranting about how they're biased. Seriously after the Jeff Gertsman incident why doesn't any care what Gamespot has to say anyway?

However I have had no problem with the phyics. I push the dpad to the right and I go right. I am not one who played the original trilogy so many times that I have this idea implanted in my head of how exactly the phyics should work. It plays fine for me and if you're going to nitpick about every little thing that isn't like a Genesis game then you need to seriously get a life. Because it wouldn't have mattered what they made it would never please everyone. They could've used 16 bit graphics and removed the homing attack and then everyone would've complained it was unoriginal because and I once again quote Yahtzee

"Fans are clingy complaining dipsh%$s who are never EVER greatful no matter how many concessions you make and the minute you shut out their shrill tremulous cries, the better off you are."

Actually you'd be amazed the average normal, non obessive gamer people I talked to when I told them they made Sonic 4 who said "really? That's awesome!" Sega didn't advertise it but a lot of them were the same folks that enjoyed New Super Mario Bros. Wii and wanted a similar Sonic experience and mark my word they aren't going to give a flying flap about pinpoint physics. Only obsessive complusive anal retentive old school gamers care about that (glares at certain people here). I much rather listen to noobs complain about lack of Shadow than listen to one more whiny rant about WHAAAA Sonic runs up a hill too easy!! or Whaaaa!! He has a homing attack. If that is you, do me a favor. Go out of your house this weekend and do something new and exciting instead of writing an angry response to me. Go hangliding or white water rafting or having sex with a member of the opposite gender (or the same if you're into that) and once you'll do that you'll find that sitting around nitpicking about video game reviews won't matter that much.

For me it's FUN. Remember that? Fun? What gaming used to be before we got obessed with spending more time on the internet complaining about games then actually playing them?

Sonic Colors will come out and even though it's free of friends, werehogs, and looks to be pretty good, we'll all find stuff to complain about with it. Some are already saying the game's too slow/fast.

IGN said it best to the purists "if it bothers you that much just go play the orginals" *takes those words balls them up and crams them down the throats of every whiner on the internet."

Also despite what reviewers say CONSUMERS have the final word. This is the most downloaded game on Wiiware right now. 90% of people I talked to about who aren't obsessive complusive Sonic fans and just want to play a good 2D Sonic game because they never accept everything after Adventure Sonic.

Also I find it amazing that it's only THIS 2D retro revival that has had this much whining and complaining. No one complained that NSMBWii reused level themes from the DS game or that it's physics were off (they were) or that it was a $50 game and still somewhat short. It's biggest complaint was the Two Toads. You don't hear people whining about DKC's lack of Kremlings or Kongs and no complaints about Kirby's recent patchwork adventure where you can't even die and Kirby can't inhale enemies.

What does this say about the Sonic fanbase? It's says we're whiny, nitpicky and unpleasable and honestly I think Sega needs to ignore this minority because the saying goes "the empty can makes the most noise." Even if they tightened up the phyics in a patch or something you all would find something else to complain about.

You can't please all of the people all of the time. Can you design a better Sonic game? If so then get off your lazy butt and do it, if not SHUT UP!! I don't even know why I bother talkign to all of you. PISS OFF, close the browser and go &^%$ off to your Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD petition. Is he gone? Good I hate that guy.

Gamespot also gave Scribblenauts the same score when Gametrailers and other sources gave it much higher. They clearly have gone downhill in my book.

GameSpot is a bunch f****tards who are pants-on-head retarded when it comes to reviewing something. If it's something they don't like, they slam it around like some kind of pinball. If it's overhyped (Reach, GTA4, every other piece of crap game that drains fun away) gets a 10. Because remember, fun isn't why we are here. Actually, why don't they make that a con? The game loses points if it contains any fun in it.

To be honest, I liked Saints Row 2 over GTA4 because you could still dick around and do crazy stupid stuff, which is impossible in GTA4. You could blow up a chopper, jump off a building, poof a magical parachute and go chainsaw someone. It's also why Just Cause 2 has so many outstanding stats about the players doing random shenanigans that combined, it would equal about 12 or so years of gameplay.

I played the Wii version of Sonic 4 thought it was nice and they implented some ideas from the old Sonics and newer Sonic titles like the homing attack and speed whilist trying hard to make it feel like the old SEGA games. I mean some people moan over the likes of eye colour and homing attack. Hang on didn't Mario has a triple and wall jump in the 2D Mario platformers on the Wii and DS or is he aloud to.

I couldn't agree more with you there. I also prefer Saints row 2 over GtaIV. Goes to show how many overrated and over-hyped games their are on this site. Their reviews to date have been very poor.

I don't understand these reviewers. Be happy Sega went back to the old fun formula and not to some other sh*t adventure type game!

wasn't really the point. The point was to subtly point out the hypocrisy of saying we have nothing better to do than rabble about the game in the middle of one of the biggest diatribes I've ever seen written up on this forum.

oh, and oblig mention that this thread is redundant when there is a sticky.
