I was thinking about this last night. Of all the things Sega has tried to implement into modern Sonic games, one idea that was great was the Chao Gardens. At the time, it was probably Sega just trying to cash in on the populairity of Virtual Pets like the Tamagotchis, but it was a fun extra in the two Adventure games and gave you something to do long after you finished the main game. As a girl, I've always liked sim games like Animal Crossing, Nintendogs and Viva Pinata.
Sonic Adventure 2Battle did this best of course. Though for a while I thought in order to get a Dark Chao, I had to be mean to my Chao and no one wants to be mean to a Chao. They're so cute and cuddly. Then someone later told me that to get a dark chao I just had to have one of the bad guys like Shadow. But I got to the point where I was buying a ton of eggs in order to get one of every color. Never did get a Chao to look like Sonic or Tails or anyone nor did I ever find that elusive Nights Chao.
Still after SA2, they stopped doing the Chao gardens and I never knew why. Chronicles had them but you really didn't get to raise them or play games with them. You just collected the eggs and bound them to your character for battles.
It's still ashame that of all the half baked ideas Sega did with Sonic over the last several, years this one was a good idea and they stopped doing it.
