IMMMMM BBBAAACCCKK!!!!!!

This one isnt completly sonic related, but keep reading anyway.

Its shameful to make a terrible movie adaption of a video game, just as shameful as it is to make a bad Video game adaption of a movie! But if there is anything worse than both of these combined, its ripping off another medium. Here is a list of the worst plagiarists ever to plague the cinema...

The Hangover - - Conkers Bad Fur Day

Where do I begin? Both start with a heavy night of drinking and waking up not knowing what happened or where they are. Conker wakes up in what might as well be a Yellowstone Las Vegas, and even has to search for his girlfriend Berri at one point in the game. Also, in The Hangover Zach Galifinakiss character becomes something of a father figure to a strippers baby, just like how Conker becomes a father figure to a baby dinosaur (before he kills it accidently-on-purpose by squishing it under a rock as part of a sacrifice). Both even feature a struggle against an evil tiger (okay, in BFD it was a panther but whatever).

And oh yeah, they both have a crappy sequel that unsuccessfully mimics the predecessor.

The Pirates of the Caribbean - - The Secret of Monkey Island

While both of these stick close to the tropes of the pirate genre, there are a few similarities that are particularly striking. Lets start with the main character, in The Secret of Monkey Island you play as Guybrush Threepwood, a bumbling wisecracking swordsman who dreams of becoming a pirate, save the woman he loves, and battle a supernatural curse.... which is just like William Turner. Heck, they even dress alike!

But what about Elizabeth Swan? Or should I say, Elaine Marley! The two female leads are so similar that the only real difference is that Elizabeth is the Daughter of the governor, and that Elaine Marley is the governor. I guess that makes her the stronger character. As for Jack Sparrow, he might as well be all the funny minor characters rolled into one. But it doesnt even stop there, as there are actually visual similarities between the two. Using a coffin as a boat? Check. A pyrite city made from the wreckage of sunken ships? Check. The oddly specific character of a voodoo priestess in the Louisiana? Check.  Again, all these are tropes of the genre they share, so its just coincidence, right?

Well... apparently its rumoured that some of the artists that worked on the Monkey Island series went on to do the art for the Pyrites of the Caribbean movies.

Only LeChuck knows for sure.

The Twilight Saga - - Sonic 06

Yep, you all saw this coming. There is no real way around it, they might as well be placed in a box set together. The thing is that the first Twilight book came one year before Sonic 06, but that's not stopping this comparison!

Both Sonic Team and Stephanie Meyer have very limited previous experience with romantic storytelling, in fact Meyer says the idea came to her in a dream. I guess Sonic Team dreamt the same thing and the evil Dr Eggman gave them a dose of suck.

Both publishers were, to be blunt, idiots. Sega rushed the game putting Sonic team in a tricky position. And Little, Brown while correctly predicting that it would be a teen sensation gave the books an awful editing job (or lack thereof).

Now lets get to the characters! To be honest, I never considered Elises feelings bestiality. Since Sonic is so humanoid he hardly resembles a hedgehog. However the Why? factor of Elise herself still persists when you consider the sheer number of female characters already in the Sonic universe. Why not Blaze the cat? Why not introduce Princess Sally? If you're going to make a romantic story at least take advantage of what you've already brought to the table.

As for Edward, hes hardly a vampire. Im trying not to laugh right now its just... Seriously? The movies are a prime example of taking itself too seriously while the audience cant possibly take it seriously enough. Just like Sonic 06!

But even with all this madness, good still can come of it.

The town of Forks, Washington received huge amounts of tourism from the movies and novels where its set, enough to fund a huge preservation effort of the surrounding parks and multiple community events.

As for Sonic... He eventually showed his true colors.

SONIC AND TWILIGHT, CANNOT UNSEE!

Sonic 06 may have been a huge travesty, but I'd still prefer it over the raw sewage landfill that is Twilight.

Welcome back. I'll give you the first two (I think the first comparison is especially apt), but I actually don't think the one Sonic related one works. Twilight is (supposed to be) a love story, and that's not _really_ what Sonic 06 set out to be. 06 spends too much time focusing on not-Sonic, and there isn't a love triangle (I'm assuming there's a love triangle in Twilight), and the main character is a hero, not a pathetic, whiny ***** whose creation may have set the public view of women back by years to to her ungodly popularity. Oh, and Sonic 06's script is grammatically correct for the most part. ;) TL;DR - You're being unfair to 06. Twilight was way worse.

I will sadly admit that I did actually read all four Twilight Books but I'm not one of those girls who fawns over it. For me the books are just as shallow and goofy as any Halequin romance novel. However I could only sit through one of the films barely but yes while I see what you're going for with comparing to Sonic 06's love story to Twilight but while they are both equally shallow and awful, it is missing a few elements. Honestly if the romance was between Elise and Shadow it might be closer because like Edward, Shadow is a brooding emo, guy for no real reason and as it was pointed out there's never a love triangle. Now if there had been this Sonic/Elise/Shadow or Amy/Sonic/Elise thing, that would be different and let's face it all of us who saw that infamous kiss scene while trying not to throw up kept wondering why Amy wasn't outraged.

There are so many things wrong wtih the Elise/Sonic thing. Never mind the whole furry fetish thing going on (which usually it's defenders are said furries), you gotta wonder who at Sega thought having Sonic fall in love with a human girl was a good idea. It was like they saw both the OVA and the Chris/Sonic bromance of Sonic X and combined them into one awful character. But why a human? Seriously at that point the series loved introducing another Blank the Animal and it's well established that Sonic lives in a world where Antros and humans live together despite the old school US fans like myself not big on tons of humans wandering around Sonic's world. Still you can find tons of fan made images of Elise as an anthro whether a hedgehog or fox or whatever.

Princess_Elise_the_Hedgehog_by_GirGrunny See if Elise had looked like that, the love story would've still been lame but at least the creepy furry factor would've been gone. Then there's the fact that the whole romance with Elise is a slap in the face to poor Amy. For years the series established that Sonic avoids Amy mainly because he's just not interested in a relationship. Yes in the comics he marries Sally and has had some other romances but rarely are aspects of the comics canonized in games. Then it just comes down to the fact that Elise, like Bella is boring and uninteresting, devoid of personality and I'm sorry, she's never cried her whole life not even as a kid when both her parents died? Yet she'll cry over some hedgehog she met for 3 days. Thank God Sega got away from these overly serious attempts at storytelling and went back to more lighthearted fare. Sure Colors and Generations were campy and silly at times but at least neither game made us vomit.

I also like your Conker/Hangover comparison. Hell they should make a Conker 2 with that premise. Have like 3 playable characters that you can switch between (like DK64) on a mission to figure out what happened the night before. But of course the chances of ANY Rare IP getting a true sequel now are long gone. DAMN YOU MICROSOFT!! YOU BLEW IT UP!! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!

I knew kbaily wouldn't be able to resist this... :P I'd comment on the topic matter but, well, I've only actually seen the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie out of all these movies/games, so I can't really compare any of them. The first two points do sound far more valid than the third though.

Part of the joke of the third item is that Sonic '06 and Twilight both have similarities in lack of quality and why it's that level of quality. And they just both happened to have a long, annoying, drawn out sappy romance. (particularily if you count the load times).

Thats basically how I plan to get away with that stretch of facts on this Essay/observation/whatever the hell this is.

Not to mention they both have their fans who are all clearly insane mental patients.

I don't think it's the same unless Edward had to deal with some serious slow down.

I so see what you mean. I hate Twilight and I made the horrible mistake of watching all the movies and reading all the books. But I do love me some Taylor Lautner ;) I can name some excellent example of movie rip-offs. Dragonball Evolution was HORRIBLE. The live-action Tekken wasn't very good either. I liked the Mortal Kombat films though :)
