Rumor: Sonic in Mario Galaxy 2?

According to this news, there are rumors flying around that Sonic may be in Mario Galaxy 2.

I really hope this isn't true. Thoughts?

I could see Sonic possibly making a cameo as an NPC if only for a joke (maybe Mario racing him like he's done in past 3D games like Koopa the Quick, Il Piantissmo and Cosmic Double Mario) but I HIGHLY doubt Sonic would be playable in Galaxy 2.

But it might be funny if Sonic made a cameo in a stage where Mario had to get a star for him or something.

Still I highly doubt this is true.

Does anyone remember this cameo on the SNES?

My take on this?

If Sonic were to appear in Galaxy (which he probably won't) it will be a cameo and if that's true I bet it's a star mission where Mario has to race Sonic like Koopa the Quick in 64, Il Piantissimo in "Sunshine" and Cosmic Mario in Galaxy. Sonic shows up at the start of something like "Race to the Stars" where Sonic (running slower than usual) will challenge Mario to race him to the star. Of course you know the trick to winning the the foot races is using the long jump.

If anyone remembers Bug! for the Sega Saturn, the main character raced Sonic.

The closest thing Nintendo ever did to leaking info was when Charles Martinet, Mario's voice actor accidentally twittered that he was working on a new Mario game that wasn't Super Mario Galaxy 2. But he gave no clues to as to what the game was so for all we know it's just another Mario Party.

And Nintendo was mad about that.
