Thoughts on Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie

The storyline was quite interesting about how Dr. Robotnik invented Metal Sonic. But, there were a lot of flaws in there that didn't exactly made the movie that enjoyable. Examples:

Voice Acting: I think Sonic's voice was the best one that give him that attitude way imo. Tails sounds like he's got a cold and Knuckles I guess wasn't that bad. The rest... Well.... I'll see what you have to say. XP

Humors: Sonic is supposed to be for everyone. There are some things in the movie that just wasn't meant to see in Sonic. I couldn't really tell, but others say that Tails acciendentally TOUCHED Sarah. Another one, is Sonic landing on his.... well, I'm sure you remembering that part. O_O The most disturbing one is when Sarah thought Metal Sonic was looking at her....when he crashed and his head was stuck and she was kicking him on the head to don't look. I'm sure you know what I mean...

Music: I guess the tunes were fine. At least no rocky/pimpy junk was on there. It felt like Sonic in some ways. I actually never payed attendion to the credits ending. XP

Animation/Drawing: The looks of it was Sonic CD-like. I don't remember everything, but was it the same people that did the cartoon on Sonic CD did the movie? And I guess it was trying to be funny having those crazy Japanese-like expressions. When someones shocked, their eyes mini-size or surprised, their mouths drops open and eyes grow mega-size. Some were funny.

Now, it's your turn. What are your thoughts?

Compared to other movies based on games, this is at least tolerable. It was still worlds better than the live action Mario movie, but more than anything it suffers from a horrid english dub and the fact that they threw the game continuity out the window such as no mention of the Chaos Emeralds. Then again this movie came out prior to Sonic Adventure so this was before the advent of massive stories in Sonic games and the Chaos Emeralds were not a plot device. Just an extra to collect to get super Sonic and a bonus ending.

I enjoyed this movie. Sonic flipping of Robotnik was great as well as some of the other things people may find inappropriate. Psyguy's "dub" of it was awesome too. DamienCross

No we can talk about it. I remember watching the movie on the Starz channel years ago. I was flipping through the channels and all of a sudden I see Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie and I was like "Sonic had a movie?"

I have read the review, but I just thought we could get together and talk about the movie here. Well, if it's in the way you can lock it, I guess.white_kunoichi

We're not stuck up snobs that lock things we don't agree with. Sure some of use don't like that movie, but your free to have opinions. Not much can say that, considering the ways of the internet. :P

In all honesty, the movie was alright, not too good, but it wasn't Sonic X. I kinda like how it had Metal Sonic in it, with Robotnik not too far behind, instead of replacing him entirely for some new big baddy that seem to either be some big brutish character, or slightly demonic. I mean really, you can't say Black Doom didn't seem demonic. I don't care if he was an alien, that guy looked way too damn freaky for a Sonic game. Devil Doom's appearance further made him look like he belonged in Doom (oh hey, matching names:P) Seems Sega has more work done on character design than actual plot. Oh, and while I'm talking about it, anyone else have deja vu with Devil Doom's fight (at least those who saw it on YouTube, I went to a chum's house and played it, hated it, but he dared me to beat it)? He dies the same way Metal Overlord did, with saying he's the real *insert name here* or something, before he falls from the sky in death. I mean just listen to what they say:

Metal Overlord: "Why!? I had it all! (forgot what he said after that, but at the end he goes) I am the real Sonic!"

Devil Doom: (I forgot the whole thing, but at some point he says) "I am the ultimate life form!"

Seems they're trying to be clones of what they originated from, or something. I don't know, Sega's choice of story is weird.

For some odd reason... I prefer the movie over Sonic X. I'm sorry, but Sonic X is just plain terrible. Maybe because the movie actually had a story to it and the TV show seem so....random. Well, I'm not gonna worry about it, I don't watch the series anyways. By the way, was it the same people that did the Sonic CD animation made the movie? The drawings and everything looked identical to me.white_kunoichi

I never said Sonic X was good. That was clearly pointing out that it didn't suck so hard it could pull your eyeballs right out of their sockets.

It was alright, especially considering it's short length. I would regard it as more of a parody of the Sonic franchise (and videogames iin general) then an actual movie, and in that sense, its enjoyable and gets the job done. Im also glad that the plot, as bad as it was, did not pivot entirely on the Chaos Emeralds, and it does not take itself too seriously (the downfall of many Sonic titles).

As for the unusual comedic element, theres no need to get angry about it, it gives the movie a certain charm, and its not like the crud is hitting the fan or anything.

of course, the movie, parody or not, cant overcome its biggest flaw.... That it's a weak result coming from what might have been the Greatest licensing deal for the studio.

Putting aside all the bad humor ones, there are some other parts that is quite funny. I remember that little turtle robot. That thing was still going all this time and everyones expressions on their faces at the end...Heh. Knuckles' hat burst into flames and cried out for help. Robotnik beating Sarah on a video game. I forgot what else...
