Honestly I think Alex Kidd's time has come again. Unlike Sonic, he doesn't have to be fast. He's open to a lot more experimentation. Nobody likes using Rock Paper Scissors for a boss fight. Alex is much more suited for using a sword or turning into a werewolf and having more exploration based gameplay. Maybe if Sega did that then maybe Sonic could get a break from sucking so much and more focus could be placed on putting him in high speed platformers.kbaily
alex kidd will never rule sega again. sonic put him out early on the sega genesis. and personally I don't think sonic is "sucking" latley at all. he may be off his game but his games are not nearly as bad as websites and magazines review them as.
SEGA would have died against the SNES because Alex Kidd games are pretty bad and kinda ripoffs of Mario.
Alex Kidd was a bit to similar to Mario because he had power ups which Mario has as well but not as memorable but to be fair Mario has been out longer.chocolate1325
don't forget that Mario power-ups are actually creative and funny (racoon Mario as an example). Alex Kidd just got some vehicles and some than other jewels, he just wasn't good to me
Most likely Sega would end up like Atari with a failure console and have to make games for other consoles then.macrules_640
that reminds me of the videogame crisis, when ET for the atari come out. Lol, how a game could be that bad? I'm glad I didn't existed at that time

Ahh the tale of ET for the Atari was a twisted and sorted tale indeed. You see when ET came out in theaters in the early 80s, it was a massive hit and at the same time the Atari was slumping in sales due to bad business and poor quality control (shovelware on the Wii was nothing compared to the Atari 2600 dumping ground) so Atari paid like 6 million (1980s money) for the rights to make an ET game but only had SIX WEEKS to make the game to get it out for Christmas and Atari execs were so sure that this would push systems that they made more copies of the game than Atari consoles on the market. Easy to see how that could be a bad business move and combine that with the release of a horrid port of Pac Man on the console and you have two games primarily responsible for the crash of '84 and it is true that unsold copies of ET along with other Atari games do lie in an landfil in New Mexico to this day.
[QUOTE="sonichedgehog45"]before sonic the hedgehog came out the mascot for SEGA was alex kidd. sonic of course became the mascot very early after just one game. my question is where would the blue blur be if he never became the "offical" mascot of SEGA?SMario64Dead.
Maybe not, SEGA still releases Virtua Fighter games now and then. Most likley they would have less Sonic games and we'd probably miss out on a few great ones, but it'd be likley there would be less Sonic spin-offs and they'd be made to a higher standard since they wouldn't be rushing them out all the time.
If it weren't for a certain plumber and his game we wouldn't have games that's for sure.

Actually that's just North America. The rest of the world was fine, it was mostly the United States that faced the crisis of video games overpopulating the shelves and "just being a fad".
and i do agree while sonic is my favorite character if it wasnt for mario and nintendo we wouldnt be playing sonic right now most likely
also if alex kidd was still segas mascot not only would der be no sonic but also that awesome known as ristar probably wouldnt be made
we possibly wouldnt be interested because after the videogame crash ppl stopped buying games because some were stupid atari porn games and then there was e.t. and the infamous port of pacman which helped cause the crash
Of course we would, but it would be much different that's for sure.macrules_640
That is if the stores at the time decided to give video games a chance. They literally had discount bins where games costing normally 35 would only cost 5, that's how bad they needed to get the games out of there.
and there you go most of the terrible games end up in a bargain and the good one stay on the shelvesgamerguy456
Well that's not quite true of every game. Sometimes a game is good but either didn't get much attention or didn't have mainstream appeal and went to the bargain bin like Madworld and Little King's Story but more often than not bargain bins are full of junk. However on a lot of bargain DS racks you can find Sonic Rush (the first one).
he would have been a secondary mascot, if alex kidd was sega's mario, then Sonic would have been more like Link from LoZ.
an important mascot, just not as important.
