Plax plea bargained for a two year jail sentence. I have no sympathy for the guy. Any thoughts?

The guy had a promising NFL career and he ruined it by himself. There's really no way anyone should feel sympathetic for him.

That sucks for him! He shoots himself AND gets two years in jail... Oh well, hopefully that's a lesson learned.

I can't believe he got to years for carrying a gun. That's redonkulas. I also think the fact that he shot himself in the leg was punishment enough.

No, not at all

Overall he got off easy, he should have spent more time in jail but he was able to work out a plea

I think its more of a testament of how absurd NY gun laws are (or at least the sentence).

Wha?

You can't bring a gun around NY without the correct permits. He could have easily acquired the permits but instead he was a fool and illegally carried one.

So you think that illegally carrying a firearm is a good idea?

Nah, you kinda made my point for me, he is going to jail for 2 years because he didn't fill out some paperwork (if its as easy to get a permit as you say).

Fool for being that rich and carrying a gun instead of hiring a bodyguard that carries one instead = yes

Fool for not properly holstering the gun, causing it to fall and shooting himself in the leg = yes

Derserving two years in prison with violent criminals = No.

I can't believe people are saying NY gun laws are too lax. I'm just infinitely happy I live in a state that forbids carrying weapons in public, concealed or not. I think the sentence is excessive, but I'm also glad to see the DA come out and make a stand against illegal weapons possession.

In order to get the paperwork you have to show you know how to properly carry and operate that firearm

Plaxico did not have that paperwork because he never took lessons on how to carry and operate that firearm

As I said before, he's getting off easy with only 2 years (which he'll face 18-20 months of in jail)

Interesting...

1. Michael Vick does over a year for killing dogs.

2. Stallworth does 28 days for DUI manslaughter.

3. Burress gets 2 years for shooting himself in the leg in a nightclub.

The dummy that shoots himself get's more jail time then 2 killers.

He brought it on himself. In two/three years he'll return and it'll be all the news on espn like with Vick. Exceptwhen thattime comesmaybe Favre wont be holding America hostage with his indecisiveness.

Plaxico is a fool. Why carry a gun if you don't know how to use it.

Either way in two years he will probablybe back. If Vick can return after what he did, then Burress can too.

I think he hurt himself by angering the DA when his attorney tried to have what is normally an in and out case pushed back to a year or better after the incident. Had he not tried to act above the law, there would have been no need to make an example of him.

I find it sad that I keep having to repeat this but, other cases for seperate crimes cannopt be weighted on someone else's case. Judges and juries CANNOT sit there and say, "well, this guy got a year and a half for dogfighting and running a gambling ring, this guy got a month for DUI manslaughter, so this guy should get x for illegal possesion of a firearm." It simply does not work that way for a very good reason, because if it did every sentence handed out would be reactionary to another. Every crime: dogfighting, gun posession, manslaughter, rape, public exposure, reckless endangerment, whatever, every single one has its own SEPERATE sentencing guidelines. These guidelines are set up comparatively. For instance, someone who commits first degree manslaughter and is prosecuted to the full extent of the law would receive a longer sentence than someone who commits dogfighting and is prosecuted to the full extent of the law. However every single case is different. Neither Vick nor Stallworth were prosecuted to the full extent of the law or received the maximum sentences for their crimes. This happened for various reasons such as compliance with the DA, good behavior and remorse shown, and the intent of the victims in wanting to see full prosecution. The number of years is also not the only part of the sentence in any of these cases. Stallworth had his driver's license revoked for life which is extremely harsh for a first DUI. Usually it takes about three DUIs to have that happen. He was also sentenced to community service and reached a settlement with the family of the victim, whose intent to not seek the maximum penalty went a long way in Stallworth's sentence. It is simply arrogant to the nth degree for people who only see these events from the outside looking in and have virtually no experience in legal matters to sit around and make uninformed judgements based on the fact that they personally find one offense more greivous than another and therefore think their opinion on sentencing is the correct one.

2 years is excessive IMO, considering that it's the plea deal. Either way it was foolish to go to a club with a loaded gun that you did not have a permit for.

From foxsports:

"The ex-football star was indicted earlier this month on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. He faced a minimum sentence of 3 1/2 years if convicted at a trial."

He pled guilty to a lesser crime "attempted possesion of a weapon 2nd degree".

That makes sense because he attempted to carry the weapon but dropped it... rimshot...crickets

Minor crime, because he was in a crowded nightclub and the gun went off accidentally and could have very easily killed someone. So I also suppose someone who drinks and drives and crashes their car in front of their house should be shown leniancy. I mean, they did something stupid, but they only hurt themselves, so i guess it evens out.

Agreed, should be 5 to 10.

If he faced this in court and was found guilty the minimum was 3 and a half years, so there's no telling how much time he would have faced especially since he tried to cover it up after it happened.

2 was low

Yeah I can agree with that. If your going to carry a gun, you should check to make sure they don't have unfair gun laws first. Now I think plex deserves this punishment. Just seems a little weird that if it happened anywhere else he would of received a lot less of a sentence.

I don't see how he gets so much hate. Its freaking stupid, seriously. Dude carries a weapon, alot of NFL players do. He gets 2 years because his gun misfired, while Donte Stallworth KILLS A DUDE WHILE DRUNK DRIVING and gets **30 DAYS** are you freaking kidding me? Where's the outrage for him? Where's the hate? Unbelievable. This thread's a joke

Not its not. Plax should had gotten somthing like 5 years, but Stallworth should had gotten even more. Stallworth's sentence was a joke but that doesn't mean Plax's sentence should be a joke too.

This thread's a joke :roll:DeadMagazines

How many times does this need to be said...

Stallworth being under the influence did not contribute to that pedestrian being dead in any way

If you refuse to look at the facts then why did you even bring that up in this thread?

When you drive under the influence the car becomes your weapon of choice, it just so happens that that scum misses pedestrian and other drivers must of the time.

What are you talking about?

Do you not know that the pedestrian ran out in front of Stallworth's car?

Do you not know that every single possible test was done and every test came back with the same conclusion, his condition has zero influence on what happened that day.

You either do not know what happened in that case or you're just choosing to ignore it.
