Looks like ESPN think Pats will be #1 again. Funny to see the Giants at #6 even though they won the SB they arent a very strong team.

No, its 2008, ESPN just had them on First Take. If you look it has what they project then the end of last seasons ranking in ()

IE: NY Giants 6(9)

They ended last season ranked at 9 and are ranked at 10 this season.

Oh you meant the records, your right. Either way this thread is about the powe rrankings.

The Packers seem a bit high on that list to me.

Also I wince whenever I see the first / only comment a reporter can make is "they had a strong draft" yeah like everyone is great at evaluating draft picks... :P

I def don't agree with the browns or the seahawks. being ahead of the packers. Don't get me wrong, the browns offense was really good, but like cinci...that D couldn't stop nobody. I like the addititions...but still. The seahawks...nuff said.

The Packers D was WAY better all around last year, and overall the pack had the 2nd overall offense despite not having a running game till what? week 7 or so?

The only reason there is any doubt at all is because of Favre being retired.

Cowboys at 4. Cool I guess I really don't know how to react to this. I mean the games have to be played anyways.

Rankings are nice to look at and read.

But it's on the field where everything is determined.

It is possible to rank teams based on who they have as players and how they played last year you know.

I think the Pats have fallen off. Maybe not far, but they are not deserving of 1. Their defense is getting old at LB and S. They lost their best defensive player in A. Samuel. Everybody knows what bringing pass rushers can do to their OL after the SB. I would go with the Cowboys, Colts, or Chargers. As for the Pats, I'd put them at 5.

Overall the rankings are alright, but they're also about what you'd get when you average out a mob of sports commentator's predictions. That's to say quite predictable, and really boring. ;)

As much as i knock expert prediction (particularly in the NFL). Give me some dude who is going to make some interesting predictions and give some good / creative reasons.

Lack of respect? :? For a team that posted a losing record at home, finished three games back in their division, and gave up 351 points (worst among all playoff teams), I'd say they received plenty of "respect" in these rankings.

It seems about right. The Giants are sort of like the 01 Pats. Won the SB but everyone knows the better team was the Rams. I didn't expect them to crack the top 5. But they'll make the playoffs again barring unforseen circumstances and the Giants can beat anybody in a one game match b/c of coaching, QB and defense.

I'd put the Jags over the Cowboys and drop Browns and Hawks.

But until then....WHOOOO!!! World champions!!!!

Wait what happened last season... won at tampa, dallas and green bay in the playoffs, then beat an undefeated team in the super bowl.

Doesnt make them the best team. They got hot and played/out coached the teams they played. They still are a big question mark. Does Eli revert back to old eli? Or does eh pick up where he left off playing well.

No other team can say that, but what does that have to with anything? The idea of a Power Rankings list is to place the teams in order where if a team were to hold a game today on a neutral field, every team ranked higher would have a better than 50% chance of winning against that team, and every team ranked lower would have a better than 50% chance of losing.

They are based on that team 1 has a better chance of beating team 2. Last we saw, team 6 beat a couple teams above them. Not much as really changed other than a few free agents signing/loses and unproven draft choices.

I'd put Packers above both and put the Saints above the Browns. I'm not sold on the Browns. Might put Philly and Saints above both of them. I think Brees will start off better next year, they'll have a much better D and most importantly, Reggie will break out.

The playoff wins against Dallas, Green Bay, and New England were viewed then (and still are viewed now) as upsets. An upset means the better team (or at least, the perceived better team) didn't win.

Obviously they're a stronger team than the Pats if they beat them in the Super Bowl.

Packers at 10 with an unproven QB = no no.

Seahawks = chokers, idk just dont like this team.

Glad to see the Browns in there, I like they're team, although I'm an Eagles fan, no love for the Eagles??

I think maybe the Browns should be 10

Seahawks and Packers out.

Possibly Eagles in there at 8 or 9, cant think of another team to fill the spot.

my top 10 is the same as theirs except.

8. Saints

9. Eagles

10. Browns

11.Vikings

12. Bucs

13. Bengals

14. Titans

15. Bears.

I dont expect the Beras to have a bad year and the Bengals will still perform with their poor defence cause of all their offense weapons, in spite of Chad Johnson.

BS, the person who wrote the comments is a douche, Jaguars need to be higher as well as the Giants. Patriots aren't #1 because their defense is old and will probably suck this year. Cowboys lower and then move the Colts or Chargers to #1. Not like any of this matters anyway..........

No the patriots werent the better team, the Rams were. Patriots just outplayed them for one game. Any given sunday brother.

To the Patriots comment, they are en offencive team. The defence doesnt matter as much as it used to to them. They can outscore any team they play. But I still think their defence will be fine.

What is this best team BS? Also it wasn't an upset to me, people use the word upset too damn much. Yes, unless there is a decisive BS call that gives the game away, the better team ALWAYS wins. They outplayed them for ONE game, THE GAME that mattered. Therefore, they were the better TEAM on THAT given SUNDAY. Also Defense wins Championships.

You dont think that game was an upset? A 10-6 team who gave up the most points alls eason beating a 16-0 team that broke every big offencive record isnt an upset? shesh I'd hate to know what your requirments are for an upset.

By your line of thinking: if Team A played Team B ten times in a row, won the first 9, and lost the tenth and final game, Team B is the better team. That's silly.

[QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"]What is this best team BS? Also it wasn't an upset to me, people use the word upset too damn much. Yes, unless there is a decisive BS call that gives the game away, the better team ALWAYS wins. They outplayed them for ONE game, THE GAME that mattered. Therefore, they were the better TEAM on THAT given SUNDAY. Also Defense wins Championships. Oleg_Huzwog

By your line of thinking: if Team A played Team B ten times in a row, won the first 9, and lost the tenth and final game, Team B is the better team. That's silly.

QFT. Some people will say anything to support their hate.

I'm a HUUUGE Giants fan, but that Super Bowl win was a shocker. Eli Manning playing like that was a shocker. The Defensive line was always good though.

That being said, the Giants won when it counted, and you have to give them credit for maybe being a bit mentally tougher than the Patriots last year.

That being said, ON PAPER (which this list is) The Patriots are hands down the best team in the NFL.

Mentally tougher? They had no pressure on them. The Patriots had presure every game last year to stay undefeated. The presure was enormous, sure they cracked in the last game and lost.. but I dont see how a team with no pressure who went 10-6 giving up the most points all season and is expected to lose can be counted as mentally tougher then the team that won 18 straigh games and lost int he final minutes of the final game.

Packers may still win the division because the NFC North is so weak, but they won't be even close to the same team without Favre.
