Link. Does anyone care about them anymore? I know it was 90 degrees but you would expect a little more people. I wonder how cheap the tickets were...

Sorry if this has been posted before.

I just read this week that there was a Pirates game in the 1800s that six people showed up for, apparently the Cleveland Spiders didn't draw the crowds. What are the Rays crowds like? I would think they would be pretty good, so I wonder why not the Marlins.

I live in Florida and and in all seriousness, baseball is just not big down here. The only fans I've seen here are Red Sox and Yankee fans, originally from the Northeast now living in Florida.

A couple of things contribute to that: 1. It's just not easy to get to that stadium. It's only easy for people from St. Petersburg to go to Tropicana Field. 2. It's a terrible place to watch a game. It's like watching baseball in a warehouse. The only plus is the fact that the Trane AC system keeps it a steady 72 degrees for gametime. Dolphins Stadium is no great shakes, either, because watching a baseball game in a football stadium isn't that great. But it's a lot better than the Trop.

Yeah, I'm a transplanted Red Sox fan from Rhode Island that now lives outside of Orlando, and baseball has just never been that big down here, even when the Marlins won the WS or with the success the Rays are having now. The Magic get a decent following along with the Buccaneers, but there's no question that college football is by far the biggest sport down here . Went to a Rays game against the Sox last year and at least 80% were Sox fans. That might be slightly different this year but I'm sure the majority of the fans for either Sox or Yankees games are rooting for the visiting team. And Tropicana Field is not a great place to watch a ballgame, though they do try to make it a nice place with their HOF and Ted Williams museums.

That's incredible. I figured the title was a typo or something, and you actually meant 6,000 (which is still really, really low)... but 600? Wow. :?

1. It's hot and humid as hell in this area. Not fun watching a game in that type of weather.
2. A lot of fans in Florida are northerners that moved down and still root for their original teams (I see this a lot nowadays in north Georgia as well).
3. Maybe baseball just isn't that big to people there? I don't know..

The Marlins can't quite seem to draw crowds to their games, this has been happening for a long time, although it seemed to happen more since the Elian Gonzalez incident. But it's just terrible for a team who's won two World Series within a decade to not receive that much support. I guess Floridians don't like baseball.

That is what you get for expanding into areas where you shouldn't, and the MLB wanted to contract the Twins....

The most empty MN Twins game I went to once was on a night where the MN Timberwolves, and MN Wild were playing home playoff games at the same time as the baseball game and they still managed to pull in 10k. Heck they gave score updates about the other games durring the baseball game ;)

that's really a shame. If I were living in florida and I was a marlins fan I would try to sneak down to lower level seats every game, you know the ushers are probably like oh the hell with it lol

Who is going to stop you. It doesn't sound like they NEED ushers ;)

Also with those kind of sales you'd think the lower level tickets should be, $5 or something.

They should move to like North Carolina or San Antonio or some where because there a good team that doesn't get anyone to watch.

They've never had much fan support, so why would they suddenly get it on a hot September day in games that aren't going to matter because they're not making the playoffs.

One of the strangest efforts imaginable. Sure, the Twins were in the lower third of attendance, but they were still doubling the ticket sales of either Florida team at the time.

One of the strangest efforts imaginable. Sure, the Twins were in the lower third of attendance, but they were still doubling the ticket sales of either Florida team at the time.

Selig a number of years back got a big low interest loan funneled thru several banks from the Twin's owner Pohlad, and MLB owners were going essentially to buy the Twins from Pohlad at twice the market value in order to contract the team.

MLB also wanted to make a point about how they'll move or eliminate a team if the locals don't build a stadium when they ask.

I live 20 minutes from the stadium and never go. Though I'm not a baseball fan.

I only have a few friends that actually like baseball at all. Another thing I think that bothers the more hardcore fans, both times the Marlins won the World Series, management gut the team. Now, I'm not keeping up with them, but do they have any big names on the team anymore? Any single player to draw out a few more people to watch em play?

Yeah they arguably have the most powerful infield in all of baseball: Uggla at 2B with 29 homers, Hanley at SS with 29 Homers, Mike Jacobs at 1B with 28 homers, and Cantu at 3B with 23 Homers. That is absolutely astounding, seeing as most second basemen and shortstops in the MLB dont hit much for power.

That's pretty good the Flordia Miami area pro sports is Pathetic
marlins- Good team but they got 600 fans
Dolphins- Do i really need to explain i'll just put up 2 number 1-15
Panthers- Missed the playoffs... Again (11th in the east)
Heat- Do i really have to explain this one i'll just throw out a record 15-67 including a losing streak of 15 games.
