"According to a major league source, minor leaguers Casey Kelly, Reymond Fuentes, and Anthony Rizzo are the agreed upon players that would be sent to the Padres in exchange for Adrian Gonzalez"

All I know is that this is a huge pick up for the Sox. Thoughts?

I keep reading different stories, once said it's final, a few said they're discussing with the Padres, some said they're 'very close'. But it looks like a sure thing either way.

That's a lot to give up though, 3 of their top 6 prospects? Guess Beltre definitely won't be going back.

They kept Iglesias, who is their major prospect in the organization. I'll be thrilled once this is finalized. Now go sign Crawford!

Very reasonable trade. Red Sox get their man, the Padres get paid handsomely, but the Red Sox get to keep several key prospects. Both sides are probably happy with this.

As a Yankee fan it's always nice to see the Red Sox screw up their organization

Their plan revolves around bats instead of beefing up their pitching and the bottom will fall out next season

Great trade for the Rays and Yankees

But they traded they're highest ranked one, Kelly. Even though he struggled last year, he's was still regarded as their best.

I think it's a trade that is judged a few years down the road, once the three prospects get their chance to shine.

1. They have the money

2. He's a legend

Also that has nothng to do with how the Red Sox are getting a bat when they desperately need arms, also sad how they went chasing after Mariano just to be turned down. So they screwed up their relationship with Papelbon for a player that wasn't going to sign.

They have one of the best, not too sure how you say they don't have a farm system when it's one of their strengths now

Joba, Hughes, Cano, Wang, Gardner, Jackson, Cabrera....

Seriously, there's a ton of guys that have either contributed towards a world championship or been traded for missing pieces

Leave it to you to try to spin this as a negative for the Red Sox. They just got a monster and didn't have to hurt any of their current roster. He has put up sensational offensive numbers, has 2 gold gloves, and has only missed 5 games in the past 4 seasons. Seriously check his stat line, he is a beast. I would say they needed to put the cash into hitting over pitching either way especially with the departure of Victor and probably Beltre. They still have four guys in their rotation who would make any team's rotation. (Lester, Buchholz, Becket, and Lackey). Not to mention Gonzo will have people hitting in front of and behind him and he was hitting in arguably the best pitcher's park in Petco. His numbers will just get better.

Obviously it is an issue or he would have signed already. When the Yankees told him to test the market, it a sign that they don't think he's worth enough.

Jeter is not worth what he will be getting. You should be getting paid for what you do now, not we did in the past. Jeter should really be a DH at this point and if that isn't really a great spot for him.

Meh, we'll see what happens, what i heard about the Sox is that they were old and the old stars couldn't deliver anymore. Good thing for the bums as the Padres should be weaker now, but who knows those guys can turn out big for the Baby Pads.

The Dodgers signed Barajas, who was let go by the Mets last year when he signed for league minimum, to a 1 year 3.2MILLION DOLLAR deal  If that makes you feel any better, this guy is a good backup, but that's it. They probably have no more money to spend thanks to Uncle Ned.

And yet they still won't compete with the Yankees-Halftime-

Why wouldn't they compete with the Yankees? That is quite a bold statement considering last year before everyone got injuried on the team they were a game back before the all star break and that was with Beckett and Lackey pitching mediocre.

The Yankees have problems of their own as well you know. They are getting older at some of their positions and at those positions they are hoping big bats from as well. Their pitching isn't as solid as everyone thinks. Yes Hughes is a good and up coming pitcher but he also slumped at times last year which is possible to happen as well going into next year because he is still young. Sabathia in my opinion is the only sure pitcher and obviously if they pick up Lee they will have another one, but other than that their rest of their staff does not scare me. Who Vasquez, or Burnett? Really?

If Beckett can turn things around and I'm sure Lackey will be a little better, because I gave him a mulligan seeing he came from the west to the east, this will be a top notch rotation. They need some holes to fill in the bullpen and they will be fine. Their lineup has something that they really haven't had since Manny's departure. If Ortiz can do what he last year, and Gonzo does his thing you will have that possilbe 3-4 4-5 middle of the lineup that will be just as good as when Manny was in there. Saying they won't compete is rediculous.

yup, it was crazy at times watching the games and seeing the lineup filled with triple a players

but it wasnt the injuries that hurt the team, it was the friggin bullpen

as for the trade, it should work wonders, im excited. the sox still have a lot of work to do, they need one more bat and they need some serious work in the bullpen

The Sox have big bullpen holes and the Yanks rotation isn't the greatest but I'd still put it over Bostons.
