As you may or may not know the Steelers unveiled a new mascot at the beginning of last season. His name is Steely McBeam. Now the Steelers have never had a mascot (to my knowledge) or cheerleaders (since the 1940's), there are no need for them when all 64,000 fans scream the entire game anyway.
After he was unveiled last year the Pitt Post-Gazette did a poll: 90% of people felt the mascot was a bad idea. There were websites up almost immediately with shirts saying things like "more like Steely McStupid". And there has been no "coming around" to like him since.
Now I don't think the mascot itself is poorly designed, it's actually probably one of the best designs they could've come up with. But that doesn't change the fact that the whole thing is just idiotic and completely un-needed. The Pirate Parote and Iceburgh are pretty well respected to my knowledge.

But a couple of years ago, they trimmed him down to be a new atheletic, high flying dunker. 
What they got was a thug. This new Benny has been busted for possession. He was busted for driving a mini motorcycle through the Taste of Chicago when he didn't have a permit to do so. When the officer, who was providing security at the event, identified himself as a policeman and called on him to stop, he fled. The officer pursued on foot, and when he caught up with Benny and Benny allegedly attempted to punch him in the face, breaking the officer's watch and knocking off his glasses. Barry Anderson, the man inside the suit, has subsequently claimed that the actions were performed in "character", and that he did not intend to cause injury to the officer. He was arrested and charged with battery and driving within the parkway. After Anderson was arrested and charged, his costume was returned to the United Center. The charges were later dropped after Anderson agreed to pay the cost to fix the officer's glasses. I think KG want's to kill him for shooting off one of those t-shirt cannons at him during one of the later games of this past season. Barry Anderson is currently involved in another lawsuit. Dr. Don Kalant, a Chicago-area dentist claims that one of Benny the Bull's high-fives hyperextended his arm during a February 12th home game. The injury prevented Kalant from performing dental work for four months and he is seeking unspecified damages for medical bills, physical pain, and lost earnings. Yeah, this new Benny sucks.
