Any theories to why Lakers are lacking energy and spirit lately?

When did the Lakers lethargy begin? Was it after All-Star break? Did some kind of drama happen behind the scenes that's breaking up this team's chemistry or draining their will? Any theories?

Well, this isn't really a theory but do you think that hard foul on Rudy Fernandez by Trevor Ariza has anything to do with it? Since you know because Pau Gasol is Fernandez's close friend? Even though Ariza claims he didn't foul him hard on purpose, I watched the videos and it's tough to say. Any word on that? Maybe Gasol had some exchange in the locker rooms afterwards?

I don't know.

What does everyone else think? Lakers have been doing poorly lately, blowing huge leads, losing the horrible teams, and not exciting to watch anymore.

Maybe they were too comfortable or just gotten cocky. Even Phil Jackson is concerned.

They got the #1 seed pretty much wrapped up, they know the real season starts in the playoffs.

Well they need the number one overall seed because if they do face Cleveland in the Finals, I don't see them winning 2 on the road.

they'd only need to win one on the road if they are able to protect their home court. They've come out flat again tonight against Chicago. They were down 15 late in the 2nd quarter last time i saw. But it's a long game, i'd be shocked if they don't pull that one out. They better hope Boston can upset Clev in the playoffs otherwise i can see a similar scenerio as last year, despite winning in Clev earlier in the year. That was in teh mid of the regular season, it will be COMPLETELY diff in the finals if they meet. It will be interesting

Ah you're right. Well even winning one in Cleveland will be tough.

The Lakers struggle with young fast teams which the Bulls are, not to mention they are starting one hell of a road trip.

Lakers do bad against the bad teams but great against the good teams, we beat Celtics twice and Cavs twice or once I forget but yeah they'll be fine because they've shown they can take care of the better teams in the league. With or without Bynum Lakers are going to steamroll in the playoffs

A Laker fan on another site posted Stephn A Smith's comments on the subject, I tend to agree.

http://sports.espn.go.com/stations/player?id=3967089

Plus, I realize I'm not a hall of fame coach with 9 rings but I just don't like the triangle offense that much. As I said on another site I think the triangle is somewhat out-dated, predictable and too methodical. I think that's why the Lakers have trouble with young athletic teams that "run". Yea, they have the talent to pull out a win in the end with key shots by Kobe, Pau, Odom..etc, but they look lethargic and slow in those games and get behind early.

The triangle is effective against some teams, but for others I'd like to see them abandon it in favor of a more up-tempo game. Mix it up some and stop relying on heroic's by Kobe to get the win.

Yes so they better get home court and stop slacking! The Cavs have two more wins right now.

Still the only team to beat CLE at CLE and did it with out Bynum. I'm pretty Confident that they can do it with him.
