Yeah, CC Sabathia is a better pitcher than Beckett. How could anyone argue that fact after watching him just outclass Beckett in the playoffs? Beckett bows to almighty Sabathia.

Oh please.....Sabathia had a better regular season than Beckett, it's barely even comparable. You have to realize that the votes are tallied at the conclusion of the regular season, prior to the playoffs starting. Obviously if the votes were cast after the postseason it would have been a different story.

Regular season though, CC was the Cy Young hands down.

He had more innings and more strikeouts, but he's still not as good a pitcher and probably never will be. Beckett is just smart enough to know he doesn't have to waste his arm throwing a million strikeouts to be effective now.

Not to mention, he's the best big game pitcher out there.

If I recall, Beckett was the only pitcher to have 20 wins on the season...they probably felt bad for Cleveland choking...but it's all good...I'll take winning the World Series over winning the Cy anyday...

Funny how now people are saying that, but just last year Red Sox fans were calling for Beckett's head since he was giving up a ton of homers.

If the Cy Young was voted for after the playoffs, there's no doubt Beckett would've won. But Sabathia had the better regular season, and deserves the Cy Young since it's a regular season award.

And tryfe_lyn, you never cease to amaze me. How did they feel bad for Cleveland choking if they voted before the playoffs even began? Unbelievable.

Yeah...and CC had 19...wow...1 freakin' more win. I am a Red Sox fan like you, but I still have enough reason to know that CC had a better season and CY Young goes to the BEST REGULAR SEASON PITCHER. Please, stop making these threads. If there was a CY Young for playoffs, Beckett would be the guy.

CC does deserve it.

However Beckett ptiched better down the stretch and faced tougher competition. So that's why I feel he deserves it.

I'm sure this has been said, but the Cy Young award has nothing to do with the playoffs. Voting is done after the regular season. Get your facts straight.

...and more complete games, fewer walks, lower ERA, less run support, higher VORP, and better performance in August & September.

Sabathia had the better regular season than Beckett, so he was the more deserving pitcher to win the Cy Young.

This is why they need to announce the winner before the play-offs OR change the award to include play-off performance and have voting after the World Series.

Every once in a great while, baseball writers make the right decision on an award. This is one of those times.

Timing is fine, world series ended last month. Right choice as well when you look at the stats.

If only MLB counted the playoffs when picking awards. Beckett was a BEAST, C.C. failed in the playoffs

But they don't, and for good reason: small sample size.

I'd be more upset that Crisp was on my team at all. After we got rid of him here in Cleveland he's been abysmal to say the least.

Abysmal? I really don't think so. He has not been as good a hitter as a Red Sox, but his defense has gone off-the-charts.

Yeah, Crisp is nothing special with the bat, but he's one of the best defensive center fielders in the game. One of the reasons Boston had such a great pitching staff this year? Great defense behind them. Lowell, Crisp, Drew, Youkilis -- all good to great defenders.

Seeing as how the votes have to be in on the final day of the regular-season I dont see how thats possible that the voters "felt bad" for the Tribe.

BTW, Sabathia was top 5 in Ks and top 5 in least BBs allowed. No other pitcher in MLB did that this year.

Well, Crisp's days with the Sox are numbered now, and I can't say I'll miss him. He's a great fielder, sure, but Ellsbury is going to bring so much more to the team than Crisp did. You could see it in the playoffs alone. He's bringing back what Damon gave them.

BTW, Sabathia is a great pitcher, and I'd love to see him on the Sox. But I mean, if I had to choose between him and Beckett, there's no contest. Simply because Beckett wins big games under the most extreme pressure. He's a guy I think is actually better under pressure. Its the games that do not mean much where he is in danger of losing.

If every game was a big game, I think Beck's numbers would be near perfect.
