With Bynum going down for 8 weeks, this has lost some of it's signifigance, but it's still prety impressive. Everybody put the Lakers as the #6 seed AT BEST before the season, but they are currently tied with the Suns for the best record in the West (26-11). They have already beat the Suns twice, so they are alone at the top.

Now that Bynum is out it likely won't last long, but the fact that they're there proves that the West isn't as strong as it used to be. I think it's wide open, and any one of the top 5 teams can take it (Lakers, Suns, Spurs, Mavs, Hornets).

Once Bynum comes back healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lakers go deep into the playoffs, maybe even the finals against Detroit or Boston.

Hopefully they can finish in the top 4, I doubt it though. Bynum really helped their offense, and especially defense/rebounding.Its gonna be tough with Kwame in there. He's a liability.

Oh well, at least we get to see Kobe get 40 every night (for better or worse) and he has a shot at the scoring title now.

That sucks, Bynum is having a real nice season. But at least he will be back, my Blazers won't see Oden on the court at all this year

Oh and the Lakers have been playing really well, props to them. Can't wait till that first Blazer/Laker matchup this year.

Maaan, just as Bynum starts to play great consistently we lose him for 8 weeks:cry: Hopefully they can scratch together some wins while he's gone, Kobe will just have to take a larger role...

& I'm very pleasantly surprised with the Lakers this year. Farmar & Bynum have really exceeded my expectations & it's been a fun year so far. Hopefully they go deep in the playoffs.

another interesting fact, they haven't had a 7 game now 8 game win streak since 2004, now that bynums out though we're gonna have to pray kwame plays at LEAST decent since he will be getting more minutes but the Suns are a big matchup coming up and we've already beaten them twice, if we beat them without Bynum that will be pretty amazing

I don't know about #1 but they don't suck that's for sure. With a little luck, I can see them going as far as the Conference championship.

Yeah, the Suns are going to want this one REALLY bad. If Turiaf steps up and plays like he did last night then we won't need Kwame to do much at all.

Record doesn't mean much in the West. Spurs always cruise through the season to turn it on in the playoffs. Check out the minutes Parker, Ginobili and especially Duncan plays. They're sixth man like. Spurs are still the class of the west, by far.

I also heard the Lakers are going after Chris Webber. Hopefully that'll help with Bynum down. I really hope we do get him, I really can't trust Kwame as the starting center. And I don't want to see Kobe taking 40+ shots a night with Bynum down.

The Suns lost tonight, moving the Lakers into sole possession of the #1 seed. We'll find out Thursday night if the Lakers can maintain this pace without Bynum.

So does Kobe still want to be traded?! :Dmrgab

I guess nobody really understood that whole Kobe wants a trade thing. A Big and huge distraction from what is suppose to be more important and something we all have known for a long time. THE CHEATING REF(s), we know all the NBA refs are corrupted but only one got caught. OH what was his name again because that guy fell off the planet and when that happened, Kobe getting traded died fast. I still believe Las Vegas runs the NBA. If you want proof why dont you look at the Lakers especially when they tend to lose to bad teams or seem to always lose a big lead in the 4th just so they dont make the spread. I have been following it for years and the story is the same when the Lakers are winning.

Oh yeah the topic. Lakers are playing and Kobe is passing. Also the West is 10 deep strong so any team can be in first and all of sudden be left out of the playoffs. The East sucks and continues to suck. Nba needs to tear down the Conference and division boarder and make it one big league. The top 16 teams should go to the playoffs and rank them 1 through 16. The league needs to add more teams so that there is 42 teams and everybody gets to play each team twice, which makes it fair to make the playoffs.

I like how the Lakers are playing. I know Bynum is out for at least 2 months, and Kobe would have to domost of the work doneon the court. But I dont really wanna see Kobe ball hog and score 40+ a game, because that can hurt the team's chemistry.

I also sense that when Kobe scores a lot of points, the Lakers only win by a slight margin or lose the game, just like last season. There were pretty inconsistant last year. So, Im hoping that Kobe passes the ball more, which would make more bench points and stuff like that, just like there are doing at the moment.

But with Bynum out, there will be Kwame Brown or Chris Mihm, but we all know that Kwame Brown is a butter-finger...

Kwame is retarded. He just on the court and watches the game. That is why he is never ready for a pass. As long as they keep moving the ball around, they will be fine. Spurs in my opinion are still the best team in the league no matter who has the best record. Duncan is the best player in the league and Parker and Ginobili just get better every year.

Duncan is not the best player in the NBA.Its either Kobe, Lebron or KG. If you dont know what im talking about, go to NBA.com and check the "Race to the MVP" by Maurice Brooks...

I still can't believe the Lakers got the better end of the Shaq trade, but they blew it when they traded Caron Butler for Kwame "Brick hand" Brown. Lakers could be a top 3 team if Butler was playing beside odom and bryant.

Race to the MVP doesnt mean who is the best players in the league. Duncan is the only player to be the most consistent and continues to deliver every year. I expect duncan to finish with 7 or 8 titles because his fundamental game is going to last a long time, unlike shaq's all strength and finess. Kobe(showing something this year w/o shaq), Lebron(still young but looking better), and KG(sorry but KG is really goodroll player)are all good players but they can't control a game on both ends of the court every game like Duncan can. Im not going to say by far he is the best but he is the best.

Please dont quote sports writer because most of them never even stepped on the floor.

I didnt understand that trade for Kwame either. All retarded Lakers fan thought that he was the key piece, hahahahahahaha. I hate sports writers on how they know nothing about the sport cough Steven A smith cough. Butler is good and I would say better than odom but odom can play thePF position. I think the key piece and my true captain for the Lakers is the flopping Fisher.

We're not even midway through the season yet. :?

The Lakers got off to a pretty good start last year too and then collapsed towards the end. I still say the West is only SA, Dallas, and Phoenix. That's not to say the young teams like LA, Portland, and NO are bad, they're just inexperienced and haven't reached their potential yet. They can't be compared to any of the big three teams yet as they wouldn't stand a chance against them in the playoffs IMO. Besides, like manningbowl said, record doesn't mean much.

It's funny...if you think about it, alot of the "premiere" teams in the league have horrid records...well excluding the Celtics of course ;)

Just like everybody else has been saying...we'll see how good they are after allstar break...

LOL Lebron made it to the finals last year because the east was simply WEAK, he is so lucky he's not in the west because he would have got swept first round by the spurs like he experienced last year in the finals

btw if you've watched any lakers games this year you'd see kobe is not trying to single handedly carry this team anymore, with the young guys bynum and farmar flourishing and derek fisher back leading the point he knows he doesn't have to score 50 just to give the team a chance to win

Word... It's laughable that LeBron is better than Kobe.... Kobe is a better shooter, better defender, better in the clutch, better at free throws. I'd say LeBron is a better passer though....

But yeah, you're right, Cavs wouldn't have sniffed the Finals if they didn't play in the East. They only had to beat ONE good team to reach the Finals(The Pistons) The Nets & Wizards both weren't that great.

Lebron is a better passer, rebounder, and is far more dominant all-around due to his size (They are equally good in the clutch, remember Eastern Finals last year?). He is the better player IMO, but not by much, both of them are unquestionably the 2 best players in the league.

Lebron is the only player in this league who can give 30, 7, 7 every single night, something Kobe can only dream of.

[QUOTE="Sports_N_E_1"]THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT! I LOVE THE LAKERS!!! Kobe is just the man period!dkhw

Lebron>Kobe

Kobe can't single handedly get his team to the play offs anymore.

Lebron is the only player in this league who can give 30, 7, 7 every single night, something Kobe can only dream of.

kobes been on the 1st and 2nd team all defensive team 7 times something Lebron can only dream of, make that 8 after this year

Why not? He did it last year. Thankfully he doesn't have to do it this year, as long as Bynum can come back healthy in a couple months.

Lebron is actually in the same position Kobe has been the last few years. He has to do all those things b/c his supporting cast isn't very good. Maybe Lebron could be better some day, but it certainly isn't today.

You are actually right, Lebron is in the same position as Kobe was in the last few season but you dont see Lebron becoming a selfish player and ignoring his terrible team like Kobe did. You dont see him shooting 35 to 40 times a game. He is trying to make the best of it and get his team involved. Lebron is still young and if he develops a good shot and can make some free throws, then he will start to dominate with what ever team but the kid needs time. Lakers are playing good this year because Kobe is actually running the play, passing the ball and not taking terrible shots like fade away 3 pointers from the base line. Bynum has been good but finally this year Jackson is actually giving him some time on the floor. He is this good right now, imagine how good he would be if Jackson would of let him play over SUCKY Kwame the past 2 years.

I don't mind him talking those shots from time to time b/c he's the only player in the NBA that can actually hit them. That's why the Lakers are the most exciting team to watch in the NBA.

Get the hell out with that man. He played like my niece. He deserved to be booed. He bobbled every single pass & played horrible the whole day. Are we supposed to cheer him for that?

The Lakers should seriously just cut him. I can't stand him any longer. Anyone would be better than him.
