It seem that some of the biggest debacles of over hype teams have happened in the span of 3 years.

The angles:

Worst coach?

  • Andy Reid
  • Ozzie Guillen
  • Mike Brown/Mike D'Antoni

Most significant outcome?

  • Andy Reid fire after 14 seasons.
  • Marlins Fire Sale. Possible fraud on new Stadium finance?
  • Possibly not re-signing Dwight Howard.

lakers? I feel like the writing was on the wall with the Eagles for awhile and people bought into some dumb hype. The Lakers kind of legit have no reason to be the train wreck that they are.

I was just thinking abut that. Marlins firesale I think was the plan all along. They show that they are willing to spend, get new stadium, then send out all the players. The Redsox managed to get the only manger that won a championship for them (in 86 years, and he won 2) fired.

Well, that Red Sox team never had the off season hype those others team had. Moreover, Marlins/Eagles/Lakers struggled right out of the gate while the Red Sox well pretty good and won 90 games so they were hardly a bad team, they just choked. A worst recent choke job would be a better suited list for that team.

I would give the Lakers a pass, with all their injuries and Howard not playing 100% but they should still be at least above the 8th seed.

People were penciling in the Lakers for at worst the conference finals. Now they'll need to go on a roll just to get into the playoffs. They're the bigger flop because at least in the Eagles' case there are major disappointments and big surprises in every football season. I don't remember the last time I saw a supposed title contender in the NBA fail to even reach the playoffs.

The Marlins are a completely different situation than those two teams, their organization is an embarrassment to sports.

How is anyone surprised by D'Antoni's performance in LA? He never worked well with bigs on the floor. He NEEDS young shooters.

Honestly, the firesale is nothing new for the Marlins. I'd say Loria and his goons are absolute crooks and liars, but the franchise isn't that big of a flop. They have won 2 world series titles, no matter what you say about them. They've been at best mediocre since 2003 though, leaning on the bad side.

Eagles for sure. They were the NFL's Dream Team and tanked.

-

The Lakers were old and everyone knew it. There was hope they could play together and give Mr. Buss one more good run, but it's not going to happen. They're a mild flop, especially with the clueless Howard playing in the All-Star game. This coming from the clown that was taking games off not more than a week back because he was too hurt to play. Brand management is getting old, just play the game.

-

Future flop, I'll place my bet on the '13 Jays.

I'll go with the Lakers. I'm kinda used to the Eagles doing this now, and c'mon... the Marlins... Big names, sure, but they're the Marlins.

Seriously. Lakers are 3 games under .500, I believe, Marlins ended up like 30 games under .500 lmao, and '11 Eagles were 8-8. Real Madrid is a flop, but nothing like these other three teams.

They won La Liga last year. Good enough to not be included at all in this conversation with these loser teams.

Considering a big chunk/core of that team came from a terrible Marlins team, I wouldn't be surprised. Those players didn't help the Marlins win at all. The Jays do have a better cast to surround those players though.

I think the Angels were an even bigger disappointment than the Marlins even though the Angels finished with an above-.500 record. Look at ESPN's "experts" predictions. I'd guess about half of them picked the Marlins to make the playoffs but almost everybody picked the Angels. The Angels might've even been the favorites to win the World Series.

"Greatest Red Sox Team every assembled!!" Aren't in there? The Eagles IDK why they were hyped, but it is a salary capped sport so you can't be too hard on um and everyone with half a brain knew Vick was overrated. The Phillies with Halladay, Lee and Hamels need to be there instead. +1 on the Angles, though if they weren't dumb enough not to bring up Trout a month into the season they would have made the postseason. But still an expanded playoff and a historic Rookie season from Trout along with Pujols and CJ signing and still not making the playoffs? ^^^^^^ Barca getting bounced in the Round of 16 next week???

That Eagles team shouldn't have been so overrated.

The Marlins? - people assumed they would get more fans, not win anything. Next The Eagles - were supposed to make a run at the Super Bowl and they were offensively bad. The Lakers - were supposed to be undefeated at this point, and are scraping along at .500. They can still get their stuff together and make a playoff run. The biggest flop is whoever fired Mike Brown, without a guarantee of getting Phil Jackson on board. Mike D'Antoni is arguably the worst coach in the league right now.

I think you are misinformed, Phil Jackson isn't the Lakers coach because they couldn't get him, but because they didn't want him.

Were the Patriots really a flop? as much as they were pompous chokers? I mean the Lakers are kind of like disappointing, that Patriots team was the opposite of disappointing for about 18 games until they got bullied in the Superbowl.

I am by no means a Pats fan, but I fail to see how they are pompous chokers with plays like these.

467424-mario-manningham-giants-effectue- | nfl-super-bowl-xlii-ne-patroits-vs-ny-gi.

If Tyree doesn't have industrial strength super glue on his helmet and gloves, the Pats win that game. Also the perfect throw by Manning to Manningham, who makes a world class catch. How do you stop either of those?

San Antonio Spurs losing to Oklahoma City Thunder in the playoffs. Baseball I'd go with Detroits pathetic showing in the World Series last year. Hockey I'd probably go with the Minnesota Wild. They have the talent but can never get far in the playoffs. Nascar I'll go with Dale Jr. and his terrible racing with the gen 5 car.

Lakers. Their GM should should be blamed for not adding enough depth to the team. I sort of seen it coming before it happened in the first month of this season. Also Kobe got injured.

I like the Lakers and Kobe, I really do, but its clearly the Lakers. They were so hyped to be the best team in the West and challenge Miami for the championship, instead they are just a 8th seed who are only there because Utah collapsed.

I wouldn't say the Lakers have been a flop. Disappointing? Absolutely. But I don't think they've been a complete flop. It's gonna take a while for Nash, Howard, and Kobe to REALLY get good chemistry, next year I think they will be much better and what everyone expected this year.
