I don't know why people seem to think you have to choose one or the other... You can enjoy both.Â
As far as MMA not requiring skill is a rediculous statement.  You can go to any training gym across the country and ask just to spar, you'll see the skill involved soon enough. MMA is barely 14 years old in the U.S., Boxing has been going well on 150+ years, and I agree the skill level isn't as high in their respective styles yet, but to say there is no skill involved isn't a very knowledgable thing to say.
Nah UFC is just street fighting, Boxers have better Stanima Agility and Speed all UFC has is the power game due to the fact that they can kick on someones face when their opponents on the ground show it isjust street fighting that is a brutal and unskillful fight.
Id rather watch men stand toe to toe square up and fight not kick the person on the jaw and hit him whilst he is down a person that can do that has no honor whatsoever.
I'd go for boxing, it requires skill, mental toughness, and most of all endurance and you have to be in top shape. Boxers have to go through 3-4 months of rigorous training for a fight, I don't know much about UFC I know it requires skill given the different type of martial arts, I don't know if there's a weight class or how they prepared for a fight...D3s7rUc71oNAs for physical preperation and weight classes I think its the same as boxing, but you have more coaching because of the various fighting forms. You have to be prepared for anything from your opponent soI think there's much more strategy to MMA(mixed martial arts, the real name, UFC is just a league)fighting than boxing. I'd sayboxingis more of a finesse sport where you have to be able to make the right move at the right timewhile MMAinvolves more skill and thinking, kind of like chess at its most basic form.
Anyone who thinks MMA is "street fighting" or "unskillful" is just ignorant, all of those guys know multiple fighting styles (including boxing) and if you actually knew anything about the sport you'd realize how much thinking, strategy and skill it takes.
Im stupid do you care to explain the the ability needed to kick someone on the head whilst they are down dont you dare call me ignorant.Keith4Chelski
Dude, you're ignorant, period! I have seen plenty of UFC bouts and let me tell you, they take a LOT of skill! There is a reason they only have 3 or 5 round matches as opposed to the 12 or so they give boxers... These guys train just as much (if not more) than boxers do and they have to know MUCH more than boxers do. It's rare that you have to worry about a first round punch taking you down in boxing or worry about someone taking you down(grappling) or using something other than their fists. These guys are just as fast (if not faster) and strong as boxers but they can defend better and they can do more. The matches actually end which isn't something you can say about Boxing (how lame was that dancefest with De la Hoya?). I like boxing and don't see a reason I should have to choose between it and MMA but if I did have to take a pick, it would be MMA without a doubt! Much more entertaining and these guys are amazing athletes!

Um apparently you have either never seen a UFC fight, or at least not in 10 years or so. You cannot kick or knee someone to the head while they are on the ground, completely against the rules. There are a few orgs overseas that allow that, however it is still much safer than boxing. It is much more barbaric and deadly to be punched repeatedly in the head, and be allowed to continue after 8 count etc. In MMA it is over after some can no longer properly defend themselves, thus no one has EVER died from a MMA fight.
Alot of UFC fighters do have boxing backgrounds mostly in golden gloves and other amateur stuff.
MMA requires many skills that includes boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo, Sambo, Brazlian Jiujitsu, etc.
Many boxing trainers are helping train MMA fighters. Oscar help trained Diego Sanchez in his last fight, though it probably didn't help him because it looked like Diego completely forgot how to use his wrestling ability.
You see boxers and fans of boxing hate on MMA, while MMA respect boxing because it's part of their skill-set until boxers started to talk trash like you are.
It because boxing is BORING and UFC is unpredictable and exciting. nygiants1080
I disagree on the fact that boxing is boring because it isn't. Of course, some fights are more boring than others but it's the same thing with the UFC. However, you're right to say that UFC is unpredictable and exciting. Both sports are great and show great athletes.
in boxing they can throw a lot more punches than in mma because they wear padded gloves. mma is more realistic because if you get clocked by one punch, like in real life, your very likely to go down. and since someone will end up on the ground regardless, it helps for people to know what to do on the ground. i took bjj and judo and started out feelin uncomfortable in those positions on the ground but quickly came to realize how effective it can be for someone who knows nothing accept punches. i give all due respect to boxing however and do feel that it is an art to master on its own. i kind of compare it to those who compete in those longest drive golf golf competitions or best put golf competitions. they both require a tremendous amount of skill, but to combine them togetherand use them as a whole is something tremendous. i wish the best of luck to both the mma and boxing world and still enjoy watching both. they both deserveenormous respect, buti don't feel they should be compared to each other.
