It's about dang time! No work ethic and a big ego... What a combination!

LMFAO, 39 million dollars, this is why the NFL needs a rookie salary scale like the NBA. He might have actually turned out to be a good player if he actually had to work for that 39 million. Instead they give it all to him in a signing bonus and he loses all motivation to make himself better.

Jesus christ, it's about time! I think the Raiders should turn things around in a few years. They've done some pretty good things lately.

this guy was the most overrated player ever screw busts this guy was garbage and had nothing going for him. Its the raiders fault for making him a no 1 overall pick. if the raiders that made draft picks this year were calling the shots than I think someone else instead of russell would have been chosen.

Exactly! They act like they are afraid of not paying him enough, therefore risking him entertaining better offers from other sources, and next thing we know , we have a multi million dollar rookie! I'm a big Niner fan and we are kinda going through something similar, although I think Alex Smith has a better work ethic, plus he actually had his contract restructured, acknowledging that his performance wasn't up to par. I here J.Russell was really overweight going into this years training camp also. Sad really!

I don't feel bad Russell got released. He's talented, but he has no desire or work ethic to succeed as an NFL QB. With the money he was being paid, man I just don't feel that bad for the guy. He was definitely destined to fail when he held out till the first week of his rookie year.

Russell is officially the biggest bust in draft history. Lane Kiffin has been vindicated.

Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Joey Harrington and Akili Smith can sleep easier now knowing that though they were awful busts.....they busted at a discount compared to Jamarcus Russell!

Exhibit A as to why the NFL needs a rookie salary cap similar to that of the NHL or NBA have. Make them earn the money, not just give it to them

Fully agree with the comments about a needed salary cap.

Not much of a surprise seeing how they picked up Campbell and yeah Russel was a huuuuuge bust of gargantuan proportions.

Agreed. I remember back before he was drafted, I was rooting for us to take Calvin Johnson. :(
