Is Cam Newton the new face of the NFL, or did he just have a good game?

True but he most likely won't pass for over 400 yards for the rest of the season.

While I think you are right with that one, obviously he has to be pretty decent to break the record.

and who's more to blame for that? the QB that was 24/37 for 422 yards or the defense that let up 28 points?

It perplexes me how they lost. Stats like those and I think they would have won. Reminds me of Marcum hitting the grand slam and losing.

Zero pass rush, and no rushing offense. They still need alot of work. Cam is only one piece.

A quarterback does more than just throw, though granted he's good at throwing and he's not completely at fault.

That many yards and only 3 TDs? Something isn't right there. Don't know what and I'm not putting the blame on Cam since he had so many damn yards. Very good start for Cam, but I'll reserve any judgement until I see consistency in games.

Too much is made out of week 1.

Lets look at him after 5 or 6 games, it's pointless to form an opinion off of the first game of the season. He certainly had a good first game though regardless.

Already reaping the rewards of drafting Steve Smith late. Nice game by Cam Newton. I think he is going to be a huge bust, but I hope he continues to prove me wrong because I have nothing against him. I hope this success continues.

I still remember a thread on the gamespot during draft time and so many people laughed at CAR for picking Cam. I said in my post "mark my words, Cam Newton will be a great quarterback in five years." I'm still with that statement. I'm not suprised he performed well, I'm more suprised that his team overall actually helped him score 3 td and 400 yards. I've seen him play here and there, watched his combine, and watched many of his interviews and his interviews come off most impressive. He seems a guy who knows whats most important at any given time and determined to get where he needs to go. It's a good first game but I still say he's still five years off from being a true face of a franchise with no question marks.

Great game by Cam. It's nice to see him play an effective game and shut his haters up for at least one week. Hopefully he continues to play like this throughout the season. I also loved his TD celebration after he scored on that rushing touchdown lol.

As a Cards fan I watched the game, and I have to give him props. He played his ass off and looked confident. I can't say he's not gonna be a bust just yet though. It's just 1 game, lets not jump on the Cam Newton bandwagon so hastily. Another thing is that the Cardinals were starting 2 conerbacks that have never started in an NFL game in their lives(our #1 corner Toler is injured and we traded DRC for Kolb). So a lot of Cam's completions came from Carolina's veteran recievers and tight ends taking advantage of the inexperienced pass coverage and getting wide open allowing Newton to just toss the ball up to them. Whenever our secondary finally got some good coverage, Cam looked bad and was scrambling and hesitating a lot. Another thing is that he should've had 2 interceptions, not 1. One of his interceptions was reversed on a bulls*** roughing the passer call by the refs that ended up in a Carolina touchdown instead of a possible Arizona touchdown and it killed our momentum. Cam definitely got a huge break there. But overall he had a good game especially for his first. Let's just not overrate him yet, because his stats were definitely inflated. We'll see what the real Cam Newton is made of soon enough.

If that's the case then I expect every qb who plays against the cards to throw for 422 plus yards. Face it cam haters , the dude has silenced the critics who said he wasn't "NFL" ready. He's MORE than ready to play this game. Great time to live in charlotte , everyone here can feel the excitment. I'm not expecting too much this season since we are rebuilding and all, but the future is looking pretty good

I never disliked Cam as a player, I dislike Cam as a person. It's sad that the NCAA let him get away with what he did. Not to mention the Florida incident.

You'd think with 3 ints that gb would have had more points on the board. GB failed more this game than our rookie qb and new coaching staff did.. yes, we lost again but we did a lot better than some people thought we would. Again , a rookie passed for 432 yards against the packers.

Yards don't mean nothing if you can't finish. Go down from your 1 yard line to the opponent's 1 yard line, lose the ball. You got 98 yards, 0 points. There were plenty of chances for Cam to get a TD, but had to settle for a FG. Also the only reason the Panthers were still in the game in the second half is because the defense limited the Packers limited the Packers to field goals from the turnovers.

Also this time I watched the game. :P

Turnovers mean two things

1. No points for you.

2. Potential points for the other team. (Depends on where the turnover happened)

for a rookie... against a defense last year that was top 5, and 3 Probowl caliber Corners... He, and Brady, became the 5th and 6th players in NFL history to throw for 400+ yards two straight games... and Cam is a rookie. Looks like me ranking him in the top 5, 5 years from now is going to become true.

[QUOTE="No_Hablo_Ingles"][QUOTE="Chutebox"][QUOTE="DarkOfKnight"] He is a rookie, he will improve just give him some time.

No doubt. People saying this was a great game though? Come on man...

for a rookie... against a defense last year that was top 5, and 3 Probowl caliber Corners... He, and Brady, became the 5th and 6th players in NFL history to throw for 400+ yards two straight games... and Cam is a rookie. Looks like me ranking him in the top 5, 5 years from now is going to become true.

Not even for a rookie. He threw 3 INTs and missed 2 easy ass TDs. Good job, he threw for a lot of yards. But his INTs hurt his team more than his yards helped him. That TQR or whatever had Cam in the 30s. Not good.

I agree, but for a rookie, he is certainly on the right track. Rookies struggle when they are the main focus on the team. That is a fact. The recent surge in teams that have rookie QBs make the playoffs (Ryan and Flacco) is because a great run game, and good defenses. Cam made stupid decisions at times, but they were rookie mistakes. 2 years experience will make him elite, IMO.
