Cavs get Big Ben

They didn't just get ben, they also got Delonte West and Wally from the Sonics. Both will be contributors, but giving up 6 players to get 3 seems a bit much.

Let's see what the team looks like now.

PG: West (more passing PG so that's good)

SG: Gibson

SF: James

PF: Ilgauskaus

C: Wallace

Wally and Varejo coming off the bench. They need more bench players. Wallace has to at least show some of his previous dominance to be worth this trade.

They were going to be able to clear out contracts to trade for quality players and then get a free agent or two with the extra cap space they'd have.

Big Z is a Center, not Power Forward. He's 7"3. And Wallace will play PF. And Gibson will probably be a back-up PG to West.

Anyways, I could see some Bulls fans getting angry at how much better Ben Wallace will look because he will be a much better fit in Cleveland than he was in Chicago. He now actually has a really tall Center to play with in Big Z who takes up a lot of space. His lack of offensive game wont be as noticable in Cleveland with Lebron getting most of the touches. The Cavs addressed the problems that everyone said they needed for now, PG - West, Shooter - Wally, Banger - Wallace. And this is just a "short-term" trade for the Cavs as all the players they got have contracts that end in 1-2 years. And they also get the Bulls 2009 2nd Round pick.

I would say it was a good trade for Cleveland. Now if they can just start getting healthy. Their high energy/rebounding/charge drawing/ pick setting/wild hair/ flopping Anderson Varejao will return soon after missing the last 11 games with an ankle sprain. And their SG Sahsa may return in the next couple of weeks from his mid-foot sprain. But Gibson might be out for awhile with his high ankle sprain he suffered last night against the Pacers. If the Cavaliers can become injury free they could be a very dangerous team come play-off time. They are a very good rebounding team and play great defense (when they have all there guys healthy). They're not a very exciting team to watch because they're a defensive minded team with a "random offense".

Cavs fans are probably happy to get rid of Hughes and Bulls fans are probably happy to get rid of Wallace.

LeBron was right to force the Cavs to do something. He single handedly took this team to the finals last year and this year the team does absolutely nothing to help him. Since they've drafted him, the Cavs have done nothing to build the team around him. He should be mad. It's the management's fault for never building around him and not making a better deal this year.

i dont see them being a threat to the pistons or celtics. but everyone knows they are a lock 3 seed. i dont even know the 4-8...prob sub 500 teams?but the west is really hard it seems like the east is pre school leaguge and the west a varsity team.

imagine which good team is going to be left out? it could be anyone just one serious injury and u could not make the playoffs...

Ben Wallace is absolutely terrible. I saw this and laughed. Silly Cleveland. I'm more disappointed that the Bulls had to give up Joe Smith.

Plus, sometimes you don't even know if Wallace will show up for a game because of "teh traffic :cry:".

The Cavs had expiring contracts next season and that meant that they could have traded for big name talent with them. They were also going to get salary cap relief that would allow them to pursue one top tier free agent and one or two for the bench.

If they didn't do anything this season they were going to be able to get much better for the long haul. LeBron doesn't have a chance to do anything until 2010, in 2009 they were going to be in a position to stock their team with talent so he wouldn't leave.

Instead they traded for pieces that still don't make them as good as the Celtics or the Pistons. They no longer have attractive contracts for next season to trade, and their salary cap is back up so they can't pursue top tier free agents.

They're screwed.

There was Pau Gasol and so many other stars available this season that they could've pursued. It's the front office's fault for making a trade that's idiotic. The front office is paid handsomely to make sure they get somebody without screwing future cap numbers. They made an idiotic trade when good ones were available. It's all on the front office guys that they made a bad trade.

Wallace may be on the decline, but he's not as overrated as people say he is. He was playing decent recently with the Bulls and i think the biggest problem was that they were having him do more than he should (...like take shots.) It should be easier for him now that he's playing along Big Z. Same goes for Smith; i think he's been playing the best basketball of his career.

But as a Bulls fan, yeah i'm just glad we got rid of Wallace and got some pretty good players in return.

Toronto and Orlando can both finish ahead of Cleveland in the standings.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Cavs slipped to the 6th or 7th seed. They're already a 5th seed (a few percentage points below the Raptors for the 4th seed). And they have a few key injuries. Their best 3-point shooter Gibson will be out 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. And plus It will take some time to gain chemistry with all their new players.

The Cavs only have 6 players that can play in todays game against the Wizards, lol. Lebron, Big Z, Damon Jones, Eric Snow, Devin Brown, and Dwyane Jones. Because all their new players wont be ready to play in time and Varejao, Gibson, and Sahsa injured. I think the league rule is that you have to have atleast 8 players to suit up so I expect the Cavs to sign a couple NBDL players to 10-Day contracts.

Refering to the cavs cap situation they were never going to sign an all-star type free agent over the next 2 off-seasons anyway. Wally and Snow combine to be about 20mil and will be expiring next year. Package them with some picks for a disgruntled all-star is still a possiblity.

Wallace and Z compliment eachother nicely and Joe Smith will be more reliable than Gooden. Hughes just wouldn't work with LeBron. He needs shooters around him and Szczerbiak is that. West is a good young prospect who played well in Boston and still has size for defending the point.

The reason the Lakers got Pau is because the Grizz got an expiring contract back worth almost 10 million dollars.

Expiring contracts are the most valuable thing in the NBA right now. The Cavs next season were going to have those next season. They would have been able to pull off a superstar trade next season just the Lakers did this season.

LeBron forced their hand, he wanted something to do NOW even though there weren't moves to be made. Next season the Cavs were going to be in the driver's seat when it comes to trades. Now they've been cornered into bad trades that need to work because they no longer have anything to trade next season.

A superstar needs to wait until the time is right, LeBron refused and the Cavs pay the price.

What expiring contracts? You have been talking about this for the whole thread, but let's see:

Hughes: 2 years 26 mil. Basically the same as Wallace, 2 years 28 mil.

Gooden 6 mil over 2 years, very reasonable

Brown and Simmons are prospects.

Newble doesn't have a big contract.

Marshall may be the only one and Wally's expiring contract after next season replaces him and is even better b/c Wally's contract is bigger.

I just assumed you were right b/c I didn't know about the cap situation, but the Cavs are actually in a better situation cap wise than before. They can still pull off a superstar trade b/c they'll still have two expiring contracts in Wally and Eric Snow.

So cap wise, this was not a bad trade.

For this year, I believe it's a good trade. Next year, I think they will have to change something in order to win a championship. Ben Wallace will now be able to focus on strictly defense because James is going to take care of the offense. So I believe this year they are better off than where they started this season. I don't think Wallace cared for Chicago over these past two seasons and that's why he never really gave it his all. He went from being an amazing defensive player to a bench warmer. So if he developes some chemristy with his new team the way he did with us (Detroit) then I believe the Cavs can be in the top three of the East behind the Pistons.

Offensive rebounds= more chances for the offence

I really like this trade. Larry Hughes has been very inconsistent. Drew Gooden was pretty good, but not supe good. Ira Newble, Shannon Brown, and Donyell Marshall weren't that great. Ben Wallace will help us on defense and will be a good rebounder, and even give us a little help on offense. Delonte West will be a solid Point Guard. Wally Szczerbiak will be a very great shooter. And Joe Smith is just kind of "meh".
