He walks way too many batters, he can't command the strike zone, only pitches about 5 innings on average because he has about 120 pitches by then. Seriously why do people think he is good? :?

How he got 18 wins last year, I will never know. But out of those 18 wins, how many were actually dominant performances? You know, the kind of performances they are paying him to have? Where are they? Very few and VERY far between.

Daisuke = OVERRATED

So if you actually think this guy is good, please explain why.

of course he's good. You're searching on this one. He does walk a lot of people, but that just makes his record and more importantly his ERA (which was a 2.90 in the best hitting park in the AL) that much more impressive. The guy is a perenial all star every year. 18-3 with a 2.90 era in the AL east is not just good, it's great, no matter how you want to twist it. You obviously have something against this guy to even make a post like this. But hey i guess in the end it's your opinion

This is MLB related. I figured people would know that since I was referring to his MLB stats from last year....

I didn't say he sucked, I just said he was overrated. For as much as the Red sox are paying him, you would think he would pitch deeper into games and walk less batters. that's my BIGGEST gripe about him.

PS I got to leave in a few minutes, so I won't be here to debate with everyone.

I'll be back later tonight though ;)

well if this is a money thing i think all pitchers are overpaid considering they only appear in 1/5 of the teams games all year, but that's another debate for another day. I guess the bottom line is that when you look at other pitchers with his salary, his statistics are right along w/ them. I mean although he was a professional in japan, he's technically only played 2 years in AMerica. You have a new culture to adjust to, and more importantly new and better hitters to figure out. His numbers improved from his first to his second year, and i expect that to continue this year. I'm not saying necessarily record wise (i think that he will get around 18 wins again), but i do believe he will cut down on the walks and get more innings this year. The guy has the stuff to be a top 5 pitcher in the game, and once he's 4-5 years into his career i would expect him to be that.

Hes incredible, he just has a style that americans aren't used to. He's not the most economical, but in Japan it didnt matter, he could pitch 150-200 pitch games. He didnt let a runner score from third once last season, and only a few cases from runners on second. His era and record speak for themselves. Granted he wouldn't be useful to a team with a weak pen, but it clearly wasnt a problem in boston

He's among the top 10 pitchers in the AL. Unless there's some Boston fanboy out there claiming "ZOMG, Matsuzaka is da bestest in the world!", I wouldn't call him overrated.I'd rather have 5 innings of 3.50 ERA pitching than I would 7 innings of 4.00.

Overpaid yes. Not an elite pitcher. He's a fine #3 pitcher though. For an ace, want the walks down and pitch more innings. Give me a Holliday or Santana anyday.

He either cut his walks down or the stats will catch up to him eventually. He tax the pen too much too.

He might be overrated, but I'd love to have him pitching for my team. If he walked less people he'd have the potential to be an ace.

He's a good pitcher. He's a top 10 pitcher in AL and could improve this year again. Very, very good 3rd pitcher IMO.

He's good, but he's not the freaking Messiah that Red Sox fans act like he is. He's just an above average pitcher that has good hitters that save him.

Huh? You say that about pitchers who win games despite having a high ERA. You don't say that about a pitcher who's coming off a season in which he had the AL's 3rd lowest ERA.

He is plenty good. I think he still has to be this good for a while longer to justify the price paid for him, but just as a pitcher dude is plenty good.

For a #3 stater, I'd say he's pretty damn good. Not awesome, but pretty damn good. He is also incredible at pitching with the bases loaded, though admittedly that does happen a bit too often. If he can cut down on the walks he'll be just that much better.

Ok so, I think it's safe to say that most think he is a pretty good pitcher, but we can all agree that he does walk too many people, and he rarely goes deep into games.

He doesn't suck, no question, I just think he's overrated and not as good as what they're paying him to be. If he cuts down on walks and can go deeper into games consistently, then I couldn't say a bad thing about him. :)

Thats my thing. He is not even the ace. On Weei they said something I agree with. he will never be a pitcher that is comfortable to watch as afan, and as a non-fan hes boring. But he should consistently bring the wins so at the end of the day it all evens out.

He needs to cut down on the walks, but other than that, he gets wins and high strikeout numbers.

And that's about all he does....Only because he has a good offense.

constantly walking guys and pitching 5 innings most of the time is what he does best. He does just enough to qualify for a win, and rarely ever pitches deep into games.

First off yes they payed a good amount of money to get him here, but they aren't paying huge money yearly to pitch for them. Secondly yes he does walk a lot of people, but that is his game and really to be honest he can walk all he wants as long as none of them score, which most of the time they don't. I don't think anyone has touted him as the best pitcher in the game, but he sure is up there.
