New Jersey is sitting at first place in the Atlantic Division, so he gets fired?!

There must be something going on that the public doesn't know about... Oh well. This distraction for the Devils might be just what the Penguins need to regain first place.

They're going to choke in the playoffs anyway. Brodeur is getting too old to single handedly lead a team deep in the postseason.

As in Martin "12 shutouts this season and probably the best goalie in the history of the sport" brodeur? The guy will be 40 and still be able to carry any team through the playoffs. You can ask anyone in hockey who they would want in net in the playoffs and 99% will say Brodeur.

I would hope so.  That or the GM wants to be credited with coaching a team to a Stanley Cup.  I think this is the second year in a row, or at least the second time, that he's fired the head coach just before the playoffs and took over coaching duties himself.

It is the second time he fired a coach right before the playoffs, he did so in 2000 when Larry Robinson took over for Robbie Ftorek. Lamoriello did take over last year in January when Larry Robinson stepped down as coach for personal reasons.

I think he'll be considered better than Roy once he retires. I'm pretty sure he's on pace for the career wins record and to absolutely shatter the career shutouts record. Especially when he has at least 4 more years left.
