I've never really thought of him as one of the absolute top players in the league. I say no. He was a really flashy dunker especially when he first came into the league, but definitely not HOF-worthy if you ask me.

This is an interesting question. Right off the bat I would say no because he hasn't really won anything and he hasn't really been a standout allstar in the league in recent years, but then I thought of Dominique Wilkins. They seem to have similar careers and pretty comparable stats and we know that Dominique is in the HOF. Vince Carter career statsDominique Wilkins career stats This is a cool website because these career stats also have a "Hall of Fame monitor." For those who want to use a mathematical formula to calculate Hall of Fame qualification. It's a stat that takes the following into consideration. * 75 points for each NBA MVP award * 15 points for each All NBA First Team selection * 1 point for each point of NBA career Approximate Value and .33 points for each point of ABA career Approximate Value * 2.5 points for each point of NBA career Efficiency * 3.5 points for each NBA Championship * -20 points for centers and -15 points for forwards (There are more detailed explanations behind those numbers at the site.) If the player's HOF Monitor score is GREATER THAN 135, then they are a LIKELY Hall of Famer. Not completely cut and dry yes or no, but likely. So Vince's HOF score is 121, while Dominique's is 142. So just like I thought, Vince's chances of getting into the HOF are borderline. FYI, Michael Jordan's HOF score is 731.

Those are the two I'm looking at. So only twice in his career was he considered a top-6 guard? That doesn't remotely sound HOF-worthy.

This. If he gets himself a ring then maybe he has a shot, but putting Wince in the HoF (especially considering he hasn't won anything meaningful) would be an insult.

dude is wasted talent, like I said in another thread he's never going to be mentioned among the elites. He'll be known as one of the best dunkers in the NBA but that's it

It's a toss up. If he wins a ring in the future then he'll get in for sure, but as of right now I think he's borderline. Oh, and you forgot to mention that he's got a gold medal from the 2000 Olympics. I'm pretty sure that's taken into consideration when considering HOF status.

He's the twelfth-most-likely active player to reach the Hall according to databasebasketball.com, for what it's worth. I still say no. He hasn't ever done anything Hall-worthy.

Personally, these stats don't mean much----Rookie of the Year, Slam Dunk, Third team 2000, Rookie First Team, etc.. when it comes to judging HOF. To me it's an eyeball test. If you say someone's name, it should either be HOF automatically or not, with a few exceptions... :) [QUOTE="ASK_Story"]

Some main career achievements:

  • NBA Rookie of the Year
  • 8x NBA All-Star
  • All-NBA Second team 2001
  • All-NBA Third team 2000

He's on the verge of becoming HOF caliber but he just doesn't have the drive of HOF players, one thing in common all HOF players have is the LOVE for the GAME, something Vince Carter lacks.
