My only gripe is the long first round. I like the 5 game first round series' so much more. It's quicker and generally makes first round matchups more exciting, IMO.-Halftime-
agreed first round should be like the baseball format. 5 games / 7 games / 7 games / 7games
I hate any 7 game playoff series. Playoffs should be one game period. You can't bring your A game in a do-or-die game, you don't deserve to go on. Doesn't matter if you played a billion times better than the opposition in the regular season.manningbowl135
You can't play an 82 game regular season and have 1 game series in the playoffs.

that would be terrible, the playoffs are for those who deserve to be there, and the teams that can consistently win a series against all the other teams are the true champions. Do or die just doesn't make sense when you have 82 games in the regular season

I only agree with 1 game play offs in sports that have short regular seasons. Why play 162 games of baseball if at the end its 1 and done lol.
Some sports require a large sample of play to figure who is better.

That's true too. But I still hate the 7 game format. It gives teams way too much room for mistakes.
people complain that the playoff take waaaaaaaay too long but I like having it drag out and having a different game every night.
I like the drama and love to see it all unfold. I also like the first round being 7 games. 5 is too short...true winners rise out of 7 game series
Get rid of one round altogether. There shouldn't be 16 teams in the postseason when there's only 30 teams in the league.Oleg_Huzwog
Whoa I forgot about that. I just find that sad. Playoffs are supposed to be for the GOOD teams. The NBA playoffs is set up so a bad team is mathematically guranteed to get in. That is pathetic.

Huh?
You just said the better team has to bring it's "a" game.
Now you say you don't think the best team can bring it's "A" game 4 out of 7 tries?

I mean a team can NOT bring it's "A" game 3 out of 7 times and still be merry.

That's right, the 7 game format is made so the best teams advance.
In the NBA you no longer have the chance of a Denver Nuggets team beating the Sonics. Now you have a team like the Golden State Warriors beating the Dallas Mavs because they're the better team. Not because Dallas could escape in 5.
One game to determine the outcome of a season is stupid. Sure it makes great theater but from a sports standpoint you can't do much worse. Good teams almost always beat poor teams but what happens if the night before the Superbowl the QB for one team gets food poisoning? In a multigame series teams who suffer adversity can come back and show their dominance. In a one game finale the lesser team has a greater chance of winning.
A series shows who the true champions are in sports, one game just proves that anyone get get lucky once.

What happens when the superstar SG breaks his leg and misses the whole series? Don't bring injury into this. Injuries can affect 7 game just as much as 1 game. My point is, I don't care if you're the better team. You must bring your best game in a do-or-die game. If you don't, you don't deserve to move on.
I understand the 7 game format (although I hate everyone simply saying 7 is perfect annoying, it's just a random number that seems like not too high or too low) for the NBA season b/c the season is so long. But I still hate it.
what I always found stupid about the NBA playoff format is how the second round is set up. In the NHl playoffs the highest second round seed plays the lowest second round seed in the conference. (example 1st place in the NHl playoffs in the eastern conference this year(montreal) played the 6th place team (Philedphia). In NBA for some reason the second place team automatically plays the 6 or 3rd seed. this punishes the first palce seed
a good example 2007 ndba playoffs 2nd place phoenix played 3rd place san antonio last year.......meanwhile 4th place Utah got 8th place golden state...sorry but that is the dumbest format ever, that punishes the 2nd place team.
