The Giants overpaid but understandable that they did so. He probably would've tested the FA market after his contract ended this season and could've gained more from another team.

Exactly, it's supply and demand. There may be QBs who deserve more money, but if he did hit the free agent market there would be plenty of teams which would gladly overpay him instead of having to go back to a QB competition between two QBs who simply aren't as good as Manning.
About time. People don't give him as much credit as he deserves. Just because he doesn't have the numbers of his brother, Brady and Brees, doesn't mean he's not worth as much.
Hey, Matt Stafford's deal is $72M/6Y, so Eli's probably worth +25 on Matt over a six-year span, right?
Sure, there are quite a few QB's who are better than him now, but over the six-year window of the contract, he may actually be one of the best bets in the league. Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers, and perhaps Matt Ryan (I'd like to see another year of performance before really endorsing him, though) are better, in my view, but guys like Brady and...what's his name...Eli's brother, they're going to be quite old by the time Eli's contract is in the latter years. Eli might really be worth more than them by that point.
Way to go Eli. He delivered the Lombardi, they delivered the suitcase full of money. Wait til Tom Brady gets paid, might make this look like peanuts. Second_Rook
Brady has had a chance to sign contracts of that level, but he's actually signed much lower than his fair market value when he signed his last extension a couple years ago.

Didn't that have something to do with having salary available to resign other players? The guy really is all about team. I think we'll see him get the career contract done up after this season. If memory serves he's signed through 2010. Anyway, kind of hurts to say good things about the guy.At some point these kinds of contracts I think will have to stop where a guy who might not be top 5 at his position gets the highest contract, and they keep going up each year. Most of all though the NFL needs to do something about rookie contracts which are the most ridiculous of anything.nikolai37agreed 100%
I read that people think he is overpaid. He is 28 years old, first pick of the 2004 draft, who is a Super Bowl winning MVP QB. Matter of fact, he is younger than his brother who has also only won one Super Bowl. He is being paid for the future that he will bring to the New York Giants. Mark Sanchez, has a contract for $50.5 million for 5 years and haven't thrown a pass in the NFL yet.
Marcellus Wiley called it, Eli is not worth that much money and isn't even a top 10 QB.MoonMarvelWho is Marcellus Wiley. He never won a Super Bowl . A one time Pro Bowl selection (2001) whos been on 4 different teams in his 10 year career. He is no one to judge anybody. "Those who can, DO, Those who can''t gets on tv and talk about those who can"
Probably means Rivers will get a similar deal.HurricaneHugoI wonder how those SD fans feel, especially when the giants beat the juggernauts that were the Patriots.

"Those who can, DO, Those who can''t gets on tv and talk about those who can" The thing is, Eli is not one of the top QBs in the league. He is a solid QB, but nothing special and it's kind of ridiculous that players can now get these contracts when they aren't even at the top of their position.
I can understand the folks who feel he isn't worth the money outright.
However, I'm a bit baffled at the folks who seem to be focused on the fact that he is the highest paid player. Does anyone watch NFL news and remember it? The best player(s) in the league are only the highest paid until the next fairly good dude who gets a contract gets paid. That is just how it has worked. Heck most of these dudes NFL contracts are structured so even the highest paid player based on the contract's face falue isn't getting paid the most that year.
