Well Elton Brand told the 76'ers he'll sign for them

This is AFTER he told the Clips he'd leave so they could sign Baron Davis and then he'd resign.

Elton's word means nothing. He lied to a team and he lied to a player.

He's a disgrace.

Knowledge is power!

Hell yeah he is. He's a sell out. I don't like the clippers, 76'ers, Warriors, or any other team he was rumored to go to, so i can say this without bias. He's a you know what. If you can't take a man at his word he's nothing.

The Sixers should be a much improved team with him in the liineup next year. Sucks that the Raptors will have to face him four times though.

yes he said it. He had an agreement w/ baron davis that if Davis opted out of his contract, he would take a paycut to stay in LA with him. I don't want to hear about the money either, cause that's a cop out. What's an extra 10-15 mil when your contract will already be around 70 mil. He won't be able to spend that money if he tried. Straight sell out. If i was baron i'd take an elbow to him the first time they play.

I completely agree with the idea that you're supposed to make as much as you can make for as long as you can make it.

This situation is different.

If Elton was interested in the money then he should have told the Clippers "Sorry, this is my last chance to get a huge contract and I plan on going to the highest bidder" Instead of saying that they plan their entire free agency around the idea of getting players to surround himself and Davis and they're left holding the bag.

He also should have told Baron Davis that he wasn't going to sign for the Clips for sure and to let some other teams try and woo him. He screwed over Davis so badly it's past disgusting. Davis signed with the Clips the second free agency started because of the deal he had in place with Elton, who knows what others teams were willing to offer him?

This is one of the lowest things I've seen a player do in a long time.

Well think about it this way. Get paid more that you would signing with the clips? Or sign with the clips and have a small chance in winning, and making the playoffs? I would pick $$$

I understand all of that but he knew every single possible scenario before he opted out.

He knew what teams were looking for what. He knew that the Sixers were looking for a power forward and were willing to break the bank to get one.

While knowing all that he told a franchise to let free agents leave and tag other ones so they could build a team around him.

To further compound things he also talked a player to sign with a team with the deal that he would go there too and that would attract another free agent. So now Davis is a Clipper but the other two players who were supposed to join him are not.

If Elton knew he didn't have the mettle to be a man of his word then he shouldn't have made deals with the Clippers and Davis.

Well Davis can't actually sign the contract until 12:01 so he can always find another team that wants to give him money.

Elton Brand did nothing wrong. Baron also opted out because he doesn't want to play for Don Nelson and he wanted to play for his hometown. Elton Brand opted out and he had his rights to sign with another team. People are forgetting that the Clippers offered him a deal and just said "take it or leave it".

No, he made a verbal agreement with the clippers front office that he would take LESS money to free up cap room so they can sign a big name free agent. So guess what that's what they did. He also had an agreement with baron davis that if Davis were to opt out and come to LA he would stay. He lied to 2 different people. He gave his word and backed out like a chump. I have lost all respect for the guy, and according to what is being reported, so has a lot of people in the NBA. I personally couldn't care less cause it's not like the guy is going to help the 76'ers win a ring or anything, i just think it was a f'd up thing to do.

If he had a verbal agreement with the Clippers...then he would be a Clipper. A verbal agreement is what he has with the Sixers before they officially sign him later today. He's not obligated to his "agreement" with Baron Davis. And he really didn't screw Davis over because Davis wants to be in LA. You said Brand won't win a ring in Philly, well he has better chance in Philly than with the Clippers in that loaded Western Conference.

your missing my point. I don't care if he never loses one game in Philly. The bottom line is if you give your word to someone, as a MAN you need to honor that - PERIOD. Don't tell the Clippers that you will restructure your contract so they can sign a big name free agent (which they did), don't go recruit a player to come play in LA (which he did), and then bolt clear across country leaving those 2 hanging. It's a dirty move and he's a sell out.

Its too bad, but this seems to be an ongoing occurance in the NBA with its star players. Players bolting when they are swayed by money to play elsewhere really bothers me as a sports fan.

Welcome to Philly Elton! It's about time a player used another team to end up here. Usually it's the Sixers that get played.

It's business. You think teams don't lie to players? It works both way, besides none of us were behind the scenes and know what was said. Apparently, his agent and the Clippers hated each other.

At his press conference he said there was no under the table agreement with Baron Davis. He even mentions that he was in contact with Baron Davis during the whole situation and Baron told him to "go get that money". His agent also said that the Clippers owner stated that he would be just as happy if Brand didn't resign as if Brand did return, and Brand was pretty offended by this, considering he gave the Clippers 7 years.

He lied and his agent has a grudge that goes back a decade with the Clippers.

Of course Baron is going to say go get the money, the backlash of Elton's actions are already being felt. Today I watched Wade and Mourning talk about it, Wade was shocked and Mourning was disgusted. If I was Baron Davis I'd stay where I was and get the load of good PR that's coming for being a guy who sticks to his word.

As for Elton's agent he doesn't like the Clippers, the Clips were offering the same number that the Sixers were but the Clips didn't pick up a free agent he was shopping 10 years ago and he never forgot.

This was Elton showing that he has no honor and his agent trying a power play because his "street cred" has been hurting in recent years and he needed a splash to get his rep back.

I didn't say that. I said all teams cite "it's a business" line to take advantage of a player sometimes. When it happens to them, it's sweet karma. Neither is right, but it's awesome when teams get a taste of their own medicine (a long way of saying karma).

I was reading this in the paper today and was shocked. Brand said that he would take a price cut if they brought in Baron. I was reading the article and it said it couldn't have been the money that swayed him because the Clips offered him close to what the sixers gave him. I was so sure that he was staying because I knew if there was one guy that would stick to his word it would be Elton Brand. Looks like I was wrong, what sucks even more for the Clippers is Maggette is gone as well.

are you kidding? this isnt even close to what Boozer did. Elton Brand had the player option. That means it was HIS choice to opt out. From what I've heard, the Cavs had a team option on Boozer which means it was THEIR choice, to bring him back or to make him a free agent. Boozer told them to release him and he would sign an extension. Then he bolted for Utah. Again, HE TOLD THEM TO RELEASE HIM. Elton Brand had his own choice to become an unrestricted free agent. He's not obligated to anyone.

So close...

Boozer wants more $$$, but since he was still under his rookie contract, he could only get paid so much. The Cavs found a way they could pay him what he wanted, and Boozer gave his word he wouldn't sign anywhere else.

We all know what happened after

He said: "My intentions is to stay with the Clippers". He said he was opting out so the Clippers could bring some help. He said he would sign for less if they brought some help. The Clippers signed Baron Davis. He signed with Sixers. Elton Brand is a liar. What part don't you understand?

It really would have been nice to see Baron "2-Easy" Davis play along side Brand, but its not goign to happen no, but the Clippers now have ALOT of cap space and can sign Josh Smith or another big name (as they also got rid of maggette)

Wow

What.......a.........dirtbag

Straight from his mouth

He agreed to less and the Clips offered him a contract, when other teams offered him more he was waiting for the Clips to give him a new offer. When they didn't he talked to the Sixers and then the Clips offered him more and he turned them down!

So he told the franchise that he wanted 15 mil a year and they said ok and that's what the offer was, when someone offered him more why would the Clips offer more if he already said what he'd agree to?

Also when the Clips offered more why didn't he then take that?

Man, he is the lowest of the low

I'd be fine with him if it wasn't for opting out to get baron, then ditching. I can understand "I can actually win in phily". but don't lie to your team. I'm sure every game he's gonna play this season, he'll get at least 4 elbows.
