On ESPN.com, Hank Steinbrenner or as Jim Rome says, "George Jr." says that this is "Yankees Country" and that the Yankees will finish out on top and "Restore order to the Universe" in reference to the "Red Sox Nation" tag.

Who is this guy think he is? The Emperor? Well, I guess he's just like his old man.

He said worse then that lol

To quote Hank...

"Red Sox Nation?" What a bunch of [expletive] that is," he said in an interview with The New York Times' Play magazine. "That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans.

"Go anywhere in America and you won't see Red Sox hats and jackets, you'll see Yankee hats and jackets. This is a Yankee country. We're going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order."

So basically people said this is a Red Sox nation and the owner of the Yankees said it's a Yankee nation. I'm shocked.

Well, they both have a huge amount of bandwagoners in places other than their own state. I'd say their both probly the most popular teams in baseball.

He better back up his trash talking with a world series win this year or hes gonna make himself and my fellow yankee fans look like idiots. The only point that I agree with in his quote is that espn IS in fact full of Red Sox fans thus spreading Red sox bias to whoever watches it.

I think I might make a sig like yours for the Giants. 14-6 isn't 18-0, but I can have some fun with the losses.

One thing is clear, there are a lot of bandwagon jumpers in the "Red Sox Nation". I have spent most of my life living all over the west coast and one thing you hardly see is someone wearing Red Sox gear. And usually if you do it is because they don't like the Yankees so they go with their nemesis instead. Everyone seems to wear Yankees stuff since they are the name brand team, and when they were winning World Series trophies in the late 90's people every where were hopping on their wagon. That is nothing new, and will keep happening.

Is it a big coincidence that when the Sox won the series in 04 there were countless people wearing their **** and bragging about how great "their" team is? Never-mind that I never have seen them support the RedSox or wear any of their stuff their entire lives till that point in time. That **** pisses me off, I have great admiration for those who are true fans and support their teams through the good times and bad.

Their rivalry is great for baseball, and makes things more interesting, but the media uses it way too much to stir up controversy over nothing. Stuff will be said from both teams, and its all just talk.

This was great, the "restore the universe to order" gave me a good chuckle. Even the Yankee fans I talked to today were a bit stunned.

Thats what I was taken a back by...what audacity to make such a comment! It really does make him sound like Emperor Palpatine.

When I think of "Red Sox Nation", I simply think of the fans that cheer for them. I never assumed it encompassed the whole country and that the Red Sox were "America's Team".

I've been to a lot of places, and from my experience the Red Sox are the most popular team in the nation. The Yankees on the other hand have a lot of bandwagoners in some areas, but are generally hated.

I actually agree with the first paragraph. ESPN is full of Sox fans, and they did just create the stupid "Red Sox Nation" thing. RSN consists of a bunch of bandwagon fans all over the country that started buying Sox gear after they won the WS 4 years ago. It makes me sick, but it's no worse than the previous "Yankee Nation" that did the same thing when the Yanks were winning in the 90s. That being said, there is just as much Sox gear as there is Yanks gear around the country. The fact is, though, that there shouldn't be any gear of either team outside there respective regions.

Where does the people who are out of state buy those Sox jerseys from? Other than online, it's really hard to find other team's jerseys in stores. I got my Ichiro jersey when my brother went to Seattle. Couldn't find it anywhere close by.

October without the Yankees or the Red Sox...That's never happened since I've followed baseball. However, I would love to see the Blue Jays surprise everyone and take the division crown. It's very unlikely imo, but it would be awesome.

That's true, I'm in the Midwest and I see Yanks/BoSox jerseys everywhere. It's harder to find Cardinals and White Sox memorabilia than it is to find Yanks/Sox stuff.

wrong....red sox nation didnt come out of nowhere, maybe to you guys its new but ive been hearing it forever, yes you'll have your occasional bandwagon fans, but its natural, in boston the red sox were and still is the most popular team even before they won that championship so to think fans just came out no where is pretty dumb

Agreed. Sox-Yanks are a great rivalry, but they are way overhyped by the media. There are many other rivalries in baseball that are just as good, but they don't receive the attention.

The storyline was very compelling, especially when the Red Sox were "cursed" and just couldn't beat the Yankees when it counted before 2004. Millions of people watch the games when these two play and tickets are difficult to come by. Unless the teams become mediocre, you're still going to hear a lot about this rivalry. Especially from ESPN which I can't stand watching anymore.

LOL This guy just makes ***hat comment after ***hat comment  He has done nothing and i wasn't around when his dad first bought the team but i don't think he was this much of an arrogant donkey. Also my cousin informed me that all of these are copycats and the only true "nation" is the RaiderNation. (I think even jim rome said)

Why is it unbelievable? It's just some trash talk in response to Epstein. The Sox lived in the shadow of the Yankees from the Babe Ruth trade up to '04, so as owner he wants the Yanks back on top again. Breaking news, a Steinbrenner has an ego. Let's play some games!

I'm sick of the media using "curses" to get more hype out of a game. I am sure that is all the players are thinking about when they are playing for a championship. Uh, NO! Thank God the Red Sox and White Sox got their curse crap out of the way, and now we are still left with the damn Cubs curse! I hope they win the series this year so we won't have to hear it anymore.

[QUOTE="mrgab"]Well if the cub curse ends, next up will be the Indians.mrgab

No, it'd be the all-encompassing Seattle curse.

Indians havent won the Series since 1948, Seattle got a team 1969 (as the Pilots if I remember correctly)

Can't forget about the Astros either. They have never won a World Series since becoming a MLB team in 1965.
