What is up with Heatly these days? First he wants to be traded for no reason. Dosen't talk to the media or his teamates. People start speculating and rumours start.Sens try to trade him to Edmonton and he says no. Then he breaks his silence and says he wants a bigger role on the team. Well, this is not the way to go about doing it. Now he says he is being treated unfairly by the media?

First of all if you don't say anything about actually why you want off the team the fans will have questions and speculate. For a guy that is making 7.5 million you think he would be happy playing hockey period. If he has to play in Ottawa this seasons there are going to be alot of Boo birds in the stands.

Well technically nothing is wrong with Heatley. Heatley is a top tier player in the game, on any team he plays on he is/should be on the top line, he has proven so with his stats over his career. The situation with Ottawa from when he signed up until now has changed dramatically (not so much with players but the system played). When a player signs a contract with a team he does so because of not only the players on the team but also the system to which the team plays and that particular players role within the team. The team has seen an overhaul with its system which has seen Heatley's role reduced to which he is not acustom to nor does it fit his play style.Asking for a trade is completly acceptable. Take an example from your life would you be content with a lesser task when you know that you are capable and have previously held a higher position? The answer would be no and if you were smart you would confront the problem at hand.

Just because he makes x amount of money a year does not mean he should just roll over and accept lesser when he can contribute more to a team than what his role would be. I personally like it cause it shows his character he wants to be in the lime light and help a team win as much as possible, he wont simply roll over and play dead if you will. Now there is no question this should have been a private matter between him and the team but in the world we live in today not much is held private anymore. So I believe he is in the right to ask for a trade to a team of his chosing he has earned it and will greatly help any team he joins.

He will also be on team Canada in 2010, so he is held in high regard by the hockey minds in this country.

I hope that does not end up with the Sharks next year. The last thing we need is a selfish player who takes up a large amount of cap space.

The big question is what role does he want to play on the team? For a guy that plays 20 minutes on the ice per game, is on the power play and gets paid more than Alfredsson I am not sure what else he wants. Perhaps if the style of game the coach wants does not suite his play might be the issue but ultimately does that give a player the right to say "not my style see ya later". There seems to be too much power given to players when they negotiate their contract. Sure Heatly has the right to demand to be traded, that is in his contract. What gets me is that the Senstried to trade him to Edmonton but hedenyed the trade.

The Northeast division has been really odd since the lockout with teams with the most success there. First the Sens, then the Sabres, next the Habs, and then the Bruins. The previous 3 teams have had to overhaul their roster and have not continued with their successes after huge seasons. I'm sure Heatley feels he needs a change since it seems that he might not be in the plans for Ottawa's future.
