i still refuse to believe barry bonds is the home run king. if it was up to me, hank would still be #1. the person that should have broken should have been griffy, but we all know what happended. when i look at other players, there's only a few that might have a shot, and the one i would like to see would be a-rod or even pujols (even though that might be a long shot). sorry i had to vent

who would you have liked or like to see break it?

Miguel Cabrera has a shot if he becomes a pure power hitter.

All depends on health - when younger and in Seattle, Griffey was the guy. For while thought AJones had a chance with putting up good numbers and started so young a 19. Now its ARod and couple others.

I consider Bonds the home run king because he passed the record. Roids or not, he broke the record. The big wigs in baseball let it go so they could line their pockets and nobody knows how many pitchers used it that Bonds faced so to me, he's the record holder. Be mad at the MLB for letting this go on for so long. You can't tell me that a lot of the pitchers didn't use the stuff and that Bonds didn't face any of those pitchers. So, yeah, the MLB let it go to make money so... whatever. Bonds is the HR king.

It takes a lot of skill, but also a lot of luck. A few injuries and you go from having a good chance to NO chance at the record.

Anyway I'd be cool with seeing someone break the record provided they're clean.

Bingo. Get over it people, and root that much harder for A Rod or someone else (but not Pujols...he's apparently quite the poo-hole...no better than Bonds).

Exactly. Just root harder for the guy you want to break it. I think ARod will do it though. Only time will tell though.

Pujols easily has a shot IMO.

It's only his third season, but Fielder could give it a run if he could keep it up :P

I'd like to see anyone other than Bonds have the record. In particular I would like either A-Rod or Pujols to have it one day. Like the TC said, Griffey Jr. would be ideal but unfortunately his frequent injuries have prevented the possibility...

Yeah but Pujols is going to have a season ending elbow surgury somewhere in the next few years. Fielder certinly has a chance and if A-rod stays healthy he's got a great shot.

Yeah Griffey missed like 485 games over his career do to injury so he has 593 now and will likely get to 600. And he could have certinly done 255 home runs over 485 games.

Bit of an exaggeration, don't you think? At that rate, he'd be hitting 80-85 per season.

Bonds broke it thats how it stands. Everyone knows that it is a pointless record since no one respects it.

A-Rod will most likely break the record, and Pujols has a decent shot as well.

Yeah i guess so but let's say he played 157 games a season. 471 games so that which is 3 seasons as i said and if he averged 55 home runs those 3 seasons he would have 155 home runs which would put him at about 747 home runs now so he he'd only need 20 more to get it.

jesus, average 55 a season? So now he has to average 1 less then his all time high of 56? He is a career 40 hr Hitter but jesus you want him to have 3 55 HR seasons in a row when he has only managed to break 50 twice!

PS: 3x55=165 not 155

Yeah there's no way Griffey would hit 55 HR for three straight seasons. He only hit 56 (did it twice) in the prime of his career. Also, there's another flaw in your statement. Between 2001 and 2007 Griffey averaged 22 HR per year. Adding the 56* 3 years to his total career home runs doesn't work especially considering that he hit 22 HR per year for that stretch. Perhaps adding 10-15 HR to his totals for those years would be more appropriate.

It's not like Griffey was hitting 0 HR during those years.
