So the referee didn't blow the whistle and it was an OBVIOUS handball and a little less obvious offside.

Before some irishmen or boys starts blasting the French star, please know that he admitted publicly that he cheated, something Maradonna never did to this day for his 1986 "Hand of God" goal.

I would've liked France to win the game more "gloriously". But what can you do.

Fact is, neither Henry or the Irish side can do anything about it. The game obviously won't be replayed and Henry just played the game after he didn't hear any whistle, which I'm sure is something even Irish players (or any country, for that matter) would have done in the same situation.

I know that Americans don't really like France, so even though I'm not French, I await your replies with some apprehension.

What do you think?

If France has any honor they will voluntarily ask FIFA to replay the game.

Yeah he admits it after its in the books. Where was his altruism after the goal counted? Dudes just trying to act like a decent person. 100% dbag, but hey 99/100 players would do the same. I despise the French team so im a bit bias'd, nothing against France in general just the team.

If a pitcher has any honor, he'll ask the umpire to change his last call from a strike to a ball since it was a little outside.

If a wide receiver has any honor, he'll kindly ask the line judge to reverse the previous pass interference flag.

If the Yankees had any honor, they'd ask MLB to replay Game 2 of the ALDS because of the blown call on Mauer's hit down the line.

bases loaded no outs i dont think the twins want to get embarrassed again, but yea i see your point and it makes perfect sense. NO one would ever say "Hey even though we got the call the that was obviously wrong lets tell the refs to do over" It would be dumb to do such a thing

Henry didn't do anything wrong. He didn't hear a whistles so he kept playing. ANY other player would have done the same thing. And no, I'm not a fan of the French national team. I feel bad for the Irish team. This was a terrible call. Probly one of the worst I've seen in any sport in the last 5 years, easily, considering the stakes.

Unfortunately the fifa president is very conservative. What the refereescall can never be overruled because they are the judge.

As long as that president runs fifa, the rules will stay the same without any technology or instant replay.

Coming from a soccer player...if you gotta do it, you gotta do it. Paychecks are at stake.

Um no, this was a game winning goal, it would be more like a guy scoring a winning touchdown knowing he didn't have both feet in. Ryan Howard winning the game and not touching home plate like he did in that one WS game.

I quite agree. There's not "honor" involved in such a decision. Imagine if dude stops playing, points to his arm and yell "IT HIT MY ARM, IT'S A VIOLATION REF. GIVE THEM THE BALL". He would get killed by 60 millions mad frenchmen. And he wouldn't like that. At least he didn't deny it. And don't say "ask for a match replay". That's not even possible.

FIFA refused the FAI's request to replay the match while Henry himself said that a replay would be fair. It's a shame but all faith has been lost in Fifa, gets the suits and accountants out and put real football supporters in place. Disgraceful!!

Oh, please. Henry made that statement knowing full well that a replay would never happen. His mouth says "it is unfair" while his head is saying "don't you dare make us replay this, FIFA; France is moving on, not Ireland".

There should be a replay of the game! When Thierry Henry comes out and says that he in fact hit the ball with his hand, and later said that there should be a rematch between France and Ireland, there is no reason for there not to be one. This may be the biggest sporting even in the world, and it should not be associated with extreme controversy as this. FIFA screwed up big on this one. I feel for Ireland.

My experience watching soccer is that there are a lot of players aren't above shameless acts such as diving and so forth, and such acts are very profitable. I'm not longtime soccer watcher but my impression is they need a wholesale reworking of how they judge games. That is one BIG field with dudes all over the field, at the very least you need more refs on the field, and IMO a harsh system that reviews games for diving and maybe has divers handed off to the opposing teams fans or something...

FIFA's response was basically, "**** happens, deal with it." In other words they acknowledge the mistake but say it's just part of the game. :|

Well maybe not that, but something bad. I've seen some unsportsmanlike like stuff but man... I almost can understand punching another player when you loose your cool more than some of the diving I've seen.

It's in the FIFA Laws of the Game. The referee's word is final. If he didn't call it, nothing can make them replay the game.
